    GUARANTEED at some point in the Falcons/Vikings game this year, Dallas Turner is gonna make a highlight play and there will be some broadcast mention of how ATL passed on him to take Penix.

    Both guys are ranked in the top 10 overall players by ESPN. There are hard trade value numbers that has no connection to where a player may be ranked. Kwesi did a phenomenal job getting both of these guys while still keeping the 2025 first.

    Considering the value of future picks is roughly a round lower, it was 17 and a 7th for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and two 5ths. I think that is an overpay of about a 4th for the best DE in the draft, a premium position and position of need. I’ll take that 10/10.

    Just because the bumbling Falcons liked Penix doesn't mean the NFL liked Penix though...I think lots of people thought he was a 1st rounder somewhere...but zero chance Vikings wanted him more than JJ imo...you have a Penix bias i think and I hope future episodes aren't constantly about Penix...its newsworthy for now so I get it, but let's talk more about the vikings and less about Cousins and Penix going forward!! 🙏

    Any rookie qb should sit at first. Most of the best qb’s in history have sat at first. Throwing them out to the wolves to start is the quickest way to ruin a kid.

    Is he QB1 yet?
    I think McCarthy walks into the QB room already as the alpha. Darnold isn’t the guy. Playing with fear is a recipe for disaster and there is a reason that he has become a journeyman backup. He only has a few weeks headstart on McCarthy with the playbook. It wouldn’t shock me if McCarthy wins the starting job before the first preseason game.
    Or he might take a year. Who knows? But there is nothing to suggest that he won’t be the guy right away. Some people just have IT. This has been JJ his entire career. You guys just felt it in his first press conference.

      McHandoff played for a run first championship team. The vikings are a pass first team so McHandoff will be asked to do 3 to 4 times more passing in the "NFL" not college anymore. Till McHandoff proves he can handle the passing mode and not just being arrogant I'm in wait and see mode. Now Dallas Turner will be an impact player day one and won't have to sit for a year. That's utilizing the full 5 year rookie contract deal.

      @joshuat6305 are you smoking something? Dude McHandoff passed the ball 8 to 10 times a game in college. KOC is going to ask McHandoff to throw 30 to 40 times a game in the NFL. Players are faster stronger and better than college. You better hold your tongue or you might be eating your words. Darnold might be great. He hasn't played for a decade team since he was drafted.

    I hate the term unknown being used for JJ if you're not using it for the whole QB class because the reality is none of these guys have taken a pro snap ever so as far as I'm concerned they are all unknowns. Remember, folks, people said Mahomes was going to be a massive bust, but the Cheifs did it right and developed him correctly.

      @intrepidfool 8 місяців тому

      Yeah, I typed out and deleted a post about emotional investment making it difficult to accept new information contrary to the initial opinion. But now that the conlict is resolved (all QBs including his preferred QB are drafted) he can better accept new information and adjust his opinion. But it will still be a struggle to move past that initial bias.

    They didn’t want penix at all. He’s a slight breeze away from being crippled for life. And is useless against pressure. He’s not a long term solution for any team. Atlanta literally wasted a pick.

    If JJ McCarthy doesn't play to his pick position it won't be because he didn't put all of himself to become an excellent NFL QB. He is "wired" correctly, and my guess is that he will be a starter in the NFL for some time. I think it depends on where that ceiling is, because I suspect through hard work and dedication he'll reach his ceiling. Is that ceiling the 21st best QB or something much better? It's an exciting time for the team and the fans, even if the outcome could be disappointing. I'll never question the decision to move off Kirk and go in this direction.

    • @intrepidfool
      @intrepidfool 8 місяців тому

      McCarthy checks all of the physical boxes: arm strength and accuracy, athleticism, and build. He checks all the mental boxes: leadership, poise under pressure, drive and work ethic, toughness, and results. He posesses the superpower intangibles that are requisite to become an elite, all-time QB. As such, I believe his ceiling is uncapped. How high he climbs is up to him but the potential is there. This is why he was my favorite QB prospect in this draft.

  • @jamierask8527

    Dallas Turner was the best pick of day one. He will start day one. McHandoff will need time to get anymore if he gets anywhere. Ponder was awesome at press conferences too. Didnt mean a thing. I think everyone thought Ponder was the next franchise qbs too Dane. Ponders and McHandoffs stats were very similar so Im in wait and see mode. With Turner Im excited and I'm not even a defense guy...lol

    Darnold could very well be a diamond in the ruff. Don't count him out till it's over. Darnold number 3 pick in 2018 but played with 2 horrible teams both players and coaches. Now he has both players and coaches so let's give the dude a chance. McHandoff has a lot to prove before we call him the new Tom Brady..😂😂😂

    Whether due to an injury to Kirk, or a poor team record, I wouldn't be surprised if Penix is in the lineup by week #10 . Kirko doesn't like a capable QB waiting under the wings.

      I think so he’s faster then most people think

    • @intrepidfool
      @intrepidfool 8 місяців тому

      He is a good athlete with elite lateral quickness and short area burst. His long speed is good enough for him to gain some chunk yards on the ground when necessary. He is a pass first QB that will look downfield when breaking contain but can run the football. Skilled playaction QB already that should only improve with experience. At 6’2.5” and 219, has a solid build to absorb punishment. Showed durability and a willingness to play through injury in college. Former hockey player that has that dog in him: mentally and physically tough.

      Can't have a running game if the offensive play caller prefers to call passes to show how much of a genius he is...

    It's truely not fair or logical to judge the full package to get turner. You got qb insurance and flexibility (that you didn't need) AND you got turner

  • @jamierask8527

    So Matthew. Everyone is saying Ponder had that charismatic talk with the media also. That didn't get us anywhere. You can't judge a book by its cover. He has a lot to prove going from 8 to 10 times passing a game in college to KOCs offense passing 30 to 40 times a game in the NFL with not much of a running game. Yes they picked up Aaron Jones but he's 30 not exactly a spring chicken. I think every qb in the draft would've loved to come to the Vikings. Thats really funny...😂😂😂

    • @firesabers
      @firesabers 8 місяців тому +1

      Dude averaged 23 passes a game, not 10. True, JJM needs to prove himself, and he may very well bust. But he didn't rocket up the boards because of pure hype. The Vikings FO has had an eye on him going back two seasons. These things don't happen overnight

    • @SJStevens8723
      @SJStevens8723 8 місяців тому +2

  • @kevinfessler6831

    I do think they gave up too much for Dallas Turner. We'll see. Matthew's point about getting "great" player is true, but is Turner a great player or a great athlete who is a good player. That's kinda been the knock on Turner by his critics. Note to Dane, 3rd and 4th round picks are pretty valuable. NFL rosters are loaded with 3rd/4th rounder starters, and some of them are terrific even if the Vikings often miss on these picks. There were pass rushers available in that part of the draft, but I've no doubt Turner would not have made it to #23. I will also acknowledge that Turner's attributes it tailor-made for Flores. We'll see.

    • @intrepidfool
      @intrepidfool 8 місяців тому

      Not sure if KOC lack of commitment to the run will ever allow the Vikings to have a good running game. But maybe with better pieces it can become adequate. Or maybe KOC will adapt his playcalling philosophy with experience. Who knows?
      He hasn’t been our worst playcaller but he certainly isn’t great at it. I’m of the opinion that he is an excellent HC and is also great at developing his offensive scheme and gameplan but that he is a poor playcaller in the moment with too many breakdowns. The pressure of HC and playcaller is too much and he should let his OC call the plays.
