    Wow the stock bearing on the later NC's look wayyyyy beefier than the NC1

      Yeah, the metal bearing still makes a difference tho

    Just bought an '06 NC, 59K miles. Very well kept, but surprised at the "clunkyness" of the shifting. Reverse should require : Push-down, move left n up. Mine: Just Move full left n up.
    1st has a very narrow gate to move through to hit it.
    Going to 2nd, any pressure to the left finds a snag.
    2nd > 3rd can catch if trying to guide it too much.
    All that is too weird for a Mazda manual. I've owned 7 over past 35 years.
    That said, I am surprised - plastic - is the factory standard that you replaced here?
    Does the brass bearing sound like the solution to what I describe above?
    If so, where would you recommend sourcing one?

      Your reverse lockout plate is definitely in need of replacement, I had the same issue

      @@carsofdavis Thank you - it's hard to imagine damaging that.
      I presume it's wise to replace the other more frail bits and pieces in there at the same time.

      Yeah it’s a strange thing to get damaged but apparently it’s common on these…the other rebuild parts are fairly cheap as well

    Is that the original shift knob you have there?
    Im looking for that exact shift knob but only can find it in 5 speed...

      They're standard on Mazda 3/6 as a 6 Speed
