The Dodge B series was a range of full-size vans that were produced by Chrysler Corporation from 1970 to 2003. Through their production, the full-size vans were sold under several different nameplates. Most examples were sold by the Dodge division, although rebadged versions were sold by the now-defunct Fargo and Plymouth divisions. Despite many customer requests, the B-series was not available in the desired 360 V8 model until 1972.[1][2]
Although Chrysler would make two redesigns of the B-platform van, much of the exterior sheetmetal would remain nearly unchanged over 32 years of production, making it one of the longest-used automotive platforms in American automotive history. For 2003, DaimlerChrysler introduced the Dodge Sprinter (produced by Mercedes-Benz), making the B-platform van the last full-size van designed by Chrysler; Ram Trucks currently markets the Ram ProMaster (a rebadged Fiat Ducato).
For its entire production run, Chrysler produced the B-platform vans at the now-demolished Pillette Road Truck Assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
In 1979 the van received a redesigned front end, including a new grille with wraparound turn signals. Lower-end models had single round headlights, while Royal Sportsman and other high-end vans received four rectangular headlights. The van would keep this body style and the 1978 dash intact with only grille changes all the way through the 1993 model year. The Sportsman, Tradesman, and Adventurer names were phased out after 1980, replaced with the Ram van moniker, which included the Ram wagon for passenger models. As with the D-series trucks, B100 and B150 models were 1/2-ton rated, B250 models were 3/4-ton, and B350s were one-ton. The body shell and most fixtures would be one of the longest running of any US vehicle, remaining nearly identical from the vans' introduction in 1971 through their discontinuance in 2003, while Ford and GM would go through two or three generations of platform redesigns. Kentron Inc. build exclusively on Dodge chassis doing Van conversion. They had range of conversions including Medallion 7 & Medallion 7 SR, Daytona & Daytona SR, Traveler SR, Special Edition, Conquest & Conquest SR, various Polara Models. Each will be marked with the conversion model plaque and a badge.
In 1986 the Ram van was given a new grille to resemble those of the 1986 Ram trucks. In 1994 the entire front end was redesigned with flush headlamps to resemble the all-new Dodge Ram pickups, and new taillights wrapped around the sides of the van. The 1978-style dash was kept.
The B-series van was available with nearly every engine used in a rear-wheel-drive Chrysler product during its production. Six-cylinder engines included the 225-cubic-inch (3,690 cm3) slant six I6 (1971-1987), the 3.9-liter LA V6 (1988-1991), and the 3.9 L Magnum V6 (1992-2007). Small-block V8 engines included the LA-series 318 in3 (1971-1991), 360 in3 (1972-1992), the Magnum 5.2 L (1992-2007), and the Magnum 5.9 L (1993-2007). Big-block V8 engines were the 400 in3 (6,600 cm3) and 440 in3 (7,200 cm3) (1976-1978). Certain model years came with an optional 5.2-liter engine utilizing compressed natural gas (CNG), with a range of up to 300 miles (480 km) on a full tank, and CNG-powered Ram vans were classified as super ultra-low emission vehicles in 1999. - Авто та транспорт
BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE MODEL COMPANIES FOR NOT ONLY KEEPING THIS HOBBY GOING BUT FOR CONTINUING TO PUT OUT SOME ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC AND EXCITING NEW AND OLDER KITS. THANK YOU THANK YOU MODEL COMPANIES !!!!!! IT'S A GREAT TIME TO BE A MODELER
Exactly Teddy!!!!!!!!!
@@THROTTLEPOWER Thank you, it's soo awesome to see soo many people excited about building models.
@@teddyjones8027 Oh yea, love building Teddy!🙂
Yep! Red Green show, and the Possum Lodge van, that’ll be cool! But this one is cool too Chris!
THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH for building this one. I'm not typically a van guy but I've really gotten into building some of these 70s and early 80s van because they are soo awesome to build and it takes me down memory lane of being a kid.
Never thought to use quarter inch socket to hold the tires for sanding,,, brilliant dude
I’m so impressed. Round 2 is making this modeler very happy. Thank you.Round 2
I have been watching your content for the past two years and I just realized you're left handed. Thanks for another cool vid.
I am!
It’s great that they included all those extra decals; this would make a great tow vehicle for a matching race car.
That would be the Possum Lodge van from "The Red Green Show" Chris. As always, a great job.
was thinking the same thing
Be sure to use plenty of duct tape!
I'm a man but I can change if I have to, I guess
This van might be a good one to customize with some charlies angels decals, and recreate that old model kit… which i still want to do…lol. Great work!
Revell's recently rereleased 1976 Chevy Van was the original Charlie's Angels van, but this would look good on that color scheme as well.
Does anybody know where I can get a set of the CHARLIE'S Angels decals
Oh yea, the Charlies Angels van!!!!!
Want to build this with the Turtle power drag car as a tow van great job
If they don’t find you handsome at least they find you handy.
You should make a video showing your build collection.
Yea I’d love to see them all too
Yeah there must be thousands of them no kidding enjoy this channel
This was the exact kit MPC used for the Cannonball Run Ambulance. I was so disappointed when I opened the kit even though the box shows it using the correct Dodge Sportsman van and MPC did release a Sportsman van kit.
I believe this is also the exact kit as the Bad Company 82' Dodge van released my MPC and then 3 years ago my Round2.
Wax on. Wax off. Vantastic job.
The Possum Van!
I really want round 2 to bring back the '70s dodge van.
Now you've got all three! Was looking forward to this after the Ford and Chevy custom Vans.
I did one of these a few years ago when it was the rescue 911 van. I painted it blue and hand painted my dad's plumbing company logo on it.
My dad had this exact same van in blue....and from '82! He literally called it the "Blue 82". LOL.
I remember him working on the engine one time through the hump INSIDE the vehicle between the front 2 seats. For some reason, this traumatized me! I guess my 5 year old brain didn't think the engine should be inside with you. LOL!
My grandma had a 79 Plymouth Fury (Red paint White vinyl top) and that engine was what seemed 2 cars lengths in front of us....in other words....safely away from us. LOL.
I stopped at 10 mins in to say this about the engine location before I forgot it. I can't wait to see what the interior turns into........
The Turtle Wax paint scheme is a clue, The Red Green Show. You will need two vans to lengthen the body to proper spec, and convert from dual square to single round headlights, an easy job. Fun project.
LOOKS RADICAL DUDE !!!!!! Thank you very much for sharing your build it looks great. PLEASE KEEP EM COMING BROTHER. Everyone remember to have FUN BECAUSE IT'S A HOBBY AND IT'S SUPPOSE TO BE FUN. Everyone keep yourselves and love ones safe and healthy.
That was my dads favorite wax in the 70s...Nice build🤘
Custom van builds are always fun!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Glad you like them!
This is a great looking van - Thanks for building it.
Very cool mate, nice to see this kit out again.
Just found your u tube channel a while back. Like the picture of the kids in the hobby shop looking at the Jim Walker Firebaby u control.lt was my first u -control airplane and it came with an aluminum propeller. I had a .049 spitzzy mounted on it that some times ran and most times didn't. Your channel has caused me to dig into some of my stored for ages, car models. Love your chanel.
Beautiful van kit, decals and wheels. Added to my list
Always happy to see a new review. Best kit review show on YT! Thanks Chris, keep up the great work!!
Thanks for the video. That is an impressive looking kit, I'm glad R2 keeps releasing some great stuff. I think I may pick up one of these to build on my channel too. Yours, as always, came out GREAT! Have a great day.
Right on!
You could paint it yellow and use the turtle shell decals to make a tribute to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle van!
It reminds me of a Broadcast Van that we had at a radio station I worked at in MA. It was a Dodge as well, but it was a late 80's model Damn nice build brother.
I might get that kit just for those decals. I think a gasser would be cool with those turtles on the doors. Awesome build as always and thanks for sharing! 👍👍
Nice looking van ! Will do custom with mine remember using that paste on my Black 79 Doba needed a grinder to get it off LOL
Been waiting for this one. Liked to have seen how the glass roof and spoiler were done. As always super build. Keep them coming, I'll keep watching.
Hi man, nice build! For your info though - that engine? Aint a dodge. If it were a small block, the oil filter would stick out the right right of the block, and the distributor would be on the back top of the engine, just right of center, while the starter would attach on the bottom left of engine; if it were a big block, the oil filter would stick out the front bottom of engine from an external oil pump, while the distributor would be on the front of the engine pointing up to the right. Im kinda thinkin thats a chevy engine they gave ya. Strange. Speaking of - the van, i think, is an automatic (i dont see a clutch pedal but i also dont see a shifter on the steering column), but the transmission in your kit is a manual. Not meanin to ruin your kit, just thought id point it out as someone that's a diehard Dodge guy. Was thinkin of gettin this kit, but not if they cannot put the correct driveline on board. Your work, on the other hand, very nicely done!
Sweet kit lots of possibilities here getting me one build it bone stock with ladder racks contractors van like o said possibilities are there thanks for sharing can't wait for the next review.
# 7 😆 great 1 always enjoy your videos 📹 please keep them coming 🙏 and here to help get your videos out to everyone 😀 😊
Gotta get one of these for the face jam podcast van
That is one cool looking van , great build Chris
Glad you like it!
Yea, I've been waiting for an early Dodge van. Chris, because of your videos I've built or bought the AMT 77 Ford Custom Van, the 77 Ford Surfer van, and Revell's Custom Chevy van. I was a teenager during the custom van craze during the 1970s and I loved them! Hoping that someday you'll do Revell's early VW camper van.
Tom S.
So cool I've been waiting for the kit so I can build a tribute of Hoosier garage on YT of his dodge van this is the closest I can get to the same year of the 1 to 1 he's building!
Too beautiful this VAN !!!
Always thought dodge had the best looking vans. I had a 91 myself not to mention my friends great build as always.
Nice kit. I'll be looking for that one for sure. The only Canadian show I could think of too that featured an older extended Dodge van was the Red Green Show. A few small bus lines had the '82 extended Dodge as well, so a little trip down memory lane. A build like that might require a lot of silver/grey for the duct tape, I'm thinking!
Great job, This is a must have model. And I have been using Turtle Wax sense 1975. Even have an old Turtle Wax Chrome Polish can. Love your videos.👍👍👍👍👍
Cool build bro!
Fantastic build but aaaaaa I have Sammy Davis Jr in my head good job I love Sammy.🤣🤣👍
My question is actually if the engine is supposed to be a small block 318 or possibly a 360 Shouldn’t the distributor actually be located in the back of the engine?
opar located n front.
will be buying that kit
Nice job as always. Pretty sure the intake manifold/distributor is on backwards. 273/318/360 all had the distributor in the rear. Can’t be seen so it doesn’t matter.
I order (2) of these when you previewed it. I have a few scratch ideas for this. My hobby shop can't even get the July release yet, so I hope they get it soon. Been waiting on your build up of this. great job love the color combo Chris.
Red green show if women don't find you handsome then let them find you handy
Surprised that they didn't have a cut out for the Dodge emblem on the back, since they had the cut outs for the lights and gas cap. I suppose you could cut it out if you're careful.
That paint booth of yours has seen lots of action lol Great job on the van!
Excellent video keep them coming. I built models as a kid and into high school. You make it look easy. Makes me want to get the work bench cleaned off and get going again. You are a craftsman.
Sweet
I love that you always say it's just a hobby and tell people to have fun with it. I'm just getting back into models myself and enjoy your stuff
THANKS
I like it
Truly a master you are! Decals,Awesome! Cool Van. ✌🏻
I'd like to see your version of the Possum Van.
Love the build. One thing, I believe the windshield rear door decals should be reversed. Be impossible to see out with white strip in front of you...
Possum van!!!! Wooooo!!!
It looked like you used flat spray paints, did you spray a clear gloss spray to shine up the body?
I converted this van into the recruiting van from the movie Old School. Build it your way!
Nah, Sammy won't be in my head. I've got the old jingle as a earworm. Turtle Wax gives a hard shell finish, Turtle Wax! Great build Chris.
Would like to cut windows on the sides and paint it school bus yellow!
MPC made a drag race version of this van kit with 2 blown engines in the back side by side.
Not to nitpick, but that's a big block engine since the distributor is at the front. It's a very cool kit though. Your spin on it looks great.
I think the manifold is backwards, but you won't see it so no biggie! BB Chrysler distributors were at an angle to the passenger side
Noob question about the decals. I know you are using Markfit on the surface and over the decals. But for the preparation do you soak the decals in water?
I think the show is Red Greene
Absolutely loved this one. Great job!
I’ve thought about getting one of these van kits and painting it yellow, and make my own version of the van from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle van.
If this vans a rockin' don't come a knockin'!
The Possum Lodge van.
Wow. It turned out great. You should but 10 more ånd make all different styles. Shag wagon. Dirty rust work van. Show van. Police van. Paramedic....
Will look awesome at a drag meet maybe he’s there to sell some product and everybody at the meet ends up with a sticker
Wow, this is really nice!! I love your color and decal choices!! Fun presentation!!
That turned out really nice, Chris! 😁✌️
Beautiful paint! Decals are awesome! Like the choice of whimsical background music!
The red and green show
Chris, truly an awesome looking fun build. Like the work/custom combo Leda. Great final!!! I was surprised when you slide the turtle decal with the call outs and it was individual pieces! I would have ended up with a heap of decal film and on to the other logo. But you persevered!!! And soldiered on. Great job. Look forward to next time. 🐢
Can anyone tell me the wheel base if this kit? Thanks
Great job as always looks fantastic have a great weekend
I wonder if this is the same kit as the MPC '82 Bad Company Dodge van that was rereleased by Round 2 about 3yrs ago. BTW, thanks for the build tips that we should watch out for when we start. I am definitely getting this one once it's available.
I believe it is the same kit plastic.
AWESOME WORK ! Kit is great , Your work is great . What a finish .
The A-Team
I purchased this kit and I'm planning on making it into The Mystery Machine from the Scooby Doo cartoon.
I have never used the Tamiya Panel Line color before. When you wipe off with a Q Tip, is it dry? Or, do you have some sort of thinner on it? I haven't been able to get a straight answer either way. Thanks!
It's a very very thin enamel paint with Tamiya thinner in it, so you'll treat it the same as any enamel paint.
SO Kick Butt!
Hey Chris are you going to build Tom Daniel's re-release of the Groovy Grader or Steam Roller you should im working on the Groovy Grader
Another very cool build. When you apply pledge to make it shine, do you brush it on or do you use an air brush? Thanks
You can do either, I've demonstrated it on numerous videos. :)
@@hpiguy Thank you. I went back and watched how you brushed it on.
Possum van Red Green show
Have you figured out how you're going to add miniature rolls of the handyman's secret weapon to the next build? 😉
That one I want to see, I used pin striping tape painted gray
Great job!!!
if you have suggestions for starter kits its been a while
thanks
The opossum van off Red Green??
I love the music choices during the build
Definitely buying a couple of these big Dodge Van fan. Awesome build.
Is it the Red Green van?
Can you do a Corvette
Which is black wash you refer to please?? 😊
You can see me use it on the video in the detailing section, the bottle is on screen. Thanks man.
