Back from the days when you weren’t gonna make it unless you had something SPECIAL about you! And even then, it was still a long shot. Voices like that don’t come around all the time. No autotune. Go see Tommy Shaw sing this live. No strain. No backing tracks. No pitchy bs going on. Just spot on. When are those days coming back?
To this day, the best version of our National Anthem, that I've ever heard live, was sung by Tommy Shaw, and Jack Blades, before an Orioles game, at Camden Yards.
I remember when this song was on the charts. I used to sing it at the top of my lungs, driving in the car. Thank goodness no one could hear me! I agree with everything you said, but I’d add one more observation: the violins/strings at the beginning and the end, as well as subtly in the background throughout, are stunningly beautiful - send chills down my spine every time.
Love this song! The Damn Yankees are an 80’s band formed from all-star musicians including amazing vocalists Tommy Shaw (of Styx) and Jack Blades (of Night Ranger). Add in guitar great Ted Nugent and drummer Michael Cartellone (of Lynyrd Skynyrd) and you have a supergroup of enormous talent. 🔥
It is unbelievable that they had. a second album ready to go. They were dropped from the label and couldn’t get anyone to pick them up. You have to forgive me it could have been the 3 album. The fans loved them and they filled every place the play. Did a lot of concerts for soldiers returning from the Middle East.
They only have two albums but what's there speaks for itself. This "SUPERGROUP" got together, and Tommy asked what name they should use and Uncle Ted said, "I don't know about you, but we look like a bunch of Damn Yankees" Tommy my man 😎 When I was in my truck this album was playing😁 You need to check out the official video of this.
Actually during Ted's time in Damn Yankees he played & was endorsed by Paul Reed Smith guitars. In the official music video for this song he's playing a PRS with a custom black/white zebra pattern.
💖💖💖 Love this Supergroup. I love Tommy Shaw! I know you have listened to STYX, but have you listened to Night Ranger? They have great sound too. Try "Sister Christian", "Don't Tell Me You Love Me", "When You Close Your Eyes" and "Sentimental Street".
Another song that I don't remember but like. That is what I like about this channel, you hear some great music for the first time. Thanks Neal and Harri.
OMG!!! What a great lineup. Shaw, Blades, Nugent and Cartellone. This was a big song!!! Great from beginning to end. Another stellar pick from my good friend pncombies.
Imadrummin - Thanks, brother...this the second of my Damn Yankees double-shot. I requested "Come Again" when you were away for a few months. These guys are so damn talented
This 80’s Super Group is Absolutely Amazing Those Harmonies Those Guitars. That Bass & Drums. A Damn Yankees Song you may like even better is “Come Again”. Both Amazing Songs
I enjoyed this right along with ya brother. Awesome song. Too bad there couldn't have been many more from them. Too short lived. Glad you loved it. Peace on!!!
Before the time of Autotune, you had to just be GOOD. There was no substitution. Today everybody with a half decent voice can be engineered to sound good. Tommy Shaw, Jack Blades, Steve Perry, Freddy Mercury....that was talent on a level most people will never know.
Now this brings back memories for sure. I was in high school when this came out. It was very popular and was played a ton!!! A 90’s classic! Harri, thanks again bro. I had a thought, I think you would love Cult of Personality from Living Color!! Another classic!
he he he just makes me laugh seeing how you injoying this song . i have always liked this band and there tunes and was waiting for yous on youtube to play one of there songs i am glad you enjoy it as much as i do
This band was basically made up of vocalists, every one of them. You're 100% correct that the vocals are wonderful, and the harmonies are exquisite . Glad you love it too.
Saw them when they opened for Bad Company. They only did one album then Tommy went back to his regular gig with Styx. Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades two gifted singers.
I don’t know where I was when this came out but I had never heard it until now. I really love the harmonies. Thanks for highlighting this band for me Neal. I will explore more of their music. If it makes Harri happy, it’s good enough for me. 🌺✌️
Debbie, You're welcome. The super group, Damn Yankees, were here and gone but they made some great music in their short time together. Tommy Shaw of Styx and Jack Blades of Night Ranger's vocals are amazing. This was the second song by Damn Yankees that I requested. Do you remember "Come Again"? ua-cam.com/video/NVD-wHQmlDM/v-deo.html
Great vocals with these guys but look at that lineup! All were prolific accomplished rockers. To me what sets these guys apart from the other bands at the time, Ted Nugent. The Motorcity Madman brought an element no other band could match.
One of the very few regrets I have in life was that I was never in a place to see the Damn Yankees live. Growing up in the late-70s and 80s I feel very lucky that I got to hear and experience these bands while they were at their height of fame and popularity. What an amazing group this one in particular was. So underrated by the mainstream music industry / following during their day. And people hear them today and - first time - reactors are blown away. Most of the music today is absolute shit by comparison. I *ALMOST* feel bad for the generations of the last two decades as the shit music industry has been overtaken by simple beats and auto-tune crap. It takes no real talent to be thought of as "great" anymore.
These are some of the greatest songs of our genration.
This song is a gift to mankind.
Amazing!
Ahhhh, the age of the “power ballad”.
That was fun watching you just soak it in! Thanks man!
This has always been one of my favorite songs
Chronically underrated and another song like this one is Bad company If you wanted somebody sung by Brian Howe.
Great song 👏👏👏
Define Supergroup ......DAMN YANKEES!!
Great song was fortunate enough to see them tour in the 90's
To this day, the best version of our National Anthem, that I've ever heard live, was sung by Tommy Shaw, and Jack Blades, before an Orioles game, at Camden Yards.
Tommy, in my humble opinion, is one of the most underrated musicians! Guitar, vocals, damn great
Damn yankees !! The best super group ever assembled
🎸🤟
They where good together, seen them in concert on video awesome 🤘😆🤘🎤🥁🎸🎸
Saw them live twice in 1990/91. Once in Wheaton, IL, another time in Hannibal, MO, on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Just makes me emotional, think back to when I was a teenager. Cinderella, slaughter, poison, crue, I just fucking loved it.
American supergroup...❤ Their debut album is amazing 🌟🎸🎤
At a time when `Power Ballads` were all the rage, these guys said "Oh really? Here, hold our beers!"
What a great song. Love it❤❤
Wow, I had totally forgotten about this one. Thanks for the reminder.
One of the original supergroups.
Great song!!
Had the pleasure to see them in concert with BadCo awesome concert.
SUPERGROUP!
Vocals from Jack Blades of Night Ranger and Tommy Shaw of Styx. Ted Nugent was also in this band!
Ah, you know the Damn Yankees, since you remember 'Come Again'. Jack sings lead on this one.
It is unbelievable that they had. a second album ready to go. They were dropped from the label and couldn’t get anyone to pick them up. You have to forgive me it could have been the 3 album. The fans loved them and they filled every place the play. Did a lot of concerts for soldiers returning from the Middle East.
Motor city madman killing those solos as always. Love this song and band. Styx is one of my fav bands also,. Thanks.

Song has a retro feel to it, like "Ain't No mountain 'High Enough'". I like when rock groups do call-backs to the great ones.
Nothing like having the Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent, to put the power in power ballad on guitar!1
I was lucky enough to see them for the short time they were together. They were great!
The last Supergroup. 3 huge musicians from tootally different backgrounds and a drummer that can keep up.
They only have two albums but what's there speaks for itself.
This "SUPERGROUP" got together, and Tommy asked what name they should use and Uncle Ted said, "I don't know about you, but we look like a bunch of Damn Yankees"
Tommy my man 😎
When I was in my truck this album was playing😁
You need to check out the official video of this.
Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades voices blended together is YES!!!!!!! I love this song!!!!!❤😊
AND Night Ranger has it on their current setlist! Their concerts essentially are a greatest hits album and this track. 👍
It's honey to the ears.
Still have their CD. Loved their collaboration. Ted Nugent, Tommy Shaw of Styx, and Night Ranger lead singer. ❤
Night Ranger lead singer Jack Blades.
@@ghfantexas6848 thank you couldn't think of his name.
#MeToo
Ted Nugent on Guitar. Love that Gibson. Just what the Obiden Regium needs.
Actually during Ted's time in Damn Yankees he played & was endorsed by Paul Reed Smith guitars. In the official music video for this song he's playing a PRS with a custom black/white zebra pattern.
The one and only Ted Nugent on Lead Guitar. Tommy Shaw from Styx, Jack Blades from Night Ranger, and Michael Cartellone on Drums. AWESOME BAND!!
Doesn't Michael C. Play for Lynyrd Skynyrd now?
@@Acoustic_strings Yes he does,and has since 1999.
Esas épocas cuando se hacía verdadera música.
Harri you better go put several pairs of socks on cuz this band is gonna keep blowin' them off.
Another song that I don't remember but like. That is what I like about this channel, you hear some great music for the first time. Thanks Neal and Harri.
Very cool, my friend. The pleasure is always mine. Do you remember this request of mine?

@@pncombies I remember it, but don't think I knew that one at the time either.
Now you need to hear “ Here I Come Again “ !!!! ❤😊 the whole album is amazing!!!
ua-cam.com/video/NVD-wHQmlDM/v-deo.html 😎
I hadn't heard of them, but I REALLY enjoyed it!
Oh, yeah; Harri... I remember this on a few jukeboxes, back in the 1980's... 👍
Mr. Please is also a great song. I love the Damn Yankees
Oh the vocals are fantastic as are the instruments, Tommy Shaw with Night Ranger & Ted Nugent Wow! Damn Yankees!
This 80’s Super Group is Absolutely Amazing Those Harmonies Those Guitars. That Bass & Drums. A Damn Yankees Song you may like even better is “Come Again”. Both Amazing Songs

Yup. 70's and 80's bands had the best vocals ever.

@@broodhunter21 💯💯
Great reaction! Thanks for keeping great music alive!
Saw then Live in Chatt and they kicked ass. We got the DY songs, Tommy Shaw's Styx songs, Night Ranger hits and even Ted got to do Stranglehold.
Yeah this came out during my high school days and yes they can certainly hit those high notes
Now this brings back memories for sure. I was in high school when this came out. It was very popular and was played a ton!!! A 90’s classic! Harri, thanks again bro. I had a thought, I think you would love Cult of Personality from Living Color!! Another classic!
Check out the band members.
I assure you Harri, your reaction is as brilliant as the song!
Come Again= kick ass rock. Yay!
High Enough= power ballad. Boo!
Thank you Neal for bringeing this lovely song to my attention 😇🥰 Did not know the song but loved it 🤩😇 Great harmonies 👍💯❤ Thank you Harri
My pleasure, Agnete - you're welcome. Have you seen Harri's reaction to "Come Again" by the Damn Yankees?

Slaughter- Fly to the Angels and Mad About You. Released right around the same time as Damn Yankees👍😉

Thanks Harri, this was awesome, please check out some more. It's worth checking out some live footage of this band.
Come again from them should be next
I like the way you think. "High Enough" was part 2 of my double-shot of Damn Yankees for Harri to react to!

@@rayburn2007You're welcome!

They actually did two albums. The second was called Don't Tread and then Shaw/Blades put out an album together before Tommy went back to Styx.
I'm sorry you're right 👍

Lot of great bands in the '90s. Lets not forget Dire Straits and the Scorpions.
Great vocals with these guys but look at that lineup! All were prolific accomplished rockers. To me what sets these guys apart from the other bands at the time, Ted Nugent. The Motorcity Madman brought an element no other band could match.
The guitarist is Ted Nugent
Along with Tommy Shaw.

Try a band called NELSON. It's the twin sons of Ricky Nelson. Great songs and harmonies. AFTER THE RAIN and LOVE AND AFFECTION
Have done any Warrant? You should please
Just not Cherry Pie...way over done and not even close to their best song.
Ted Nugent on guitar solo .
Come Again
ua-cam.com/video/NVD-wHQmlDM/v-deo.html
Unfortunately harmonies is a lost art in music. Few bands do it not like it was.
Ted Nugent was in the band so they would have never been considered for a Grammy. Sad but true.
Yes, it's all political BS.
I had forgotten this song. I can't believe I like it as a kid... Wow it sucks.
go put your tucks on.
@1a I had forgotten this post. I can't believe I liked it 12 hours ago...wow you suck.
