  • Sophia Burke shares her experience with Trichotillomania, addressing misconceptions and personal fears she has encountered as a person with a body focused repetitive behavior. Sophia Burke is a junior at Deerfield Academy. As someone has been affected by trichotillomania, Sophia has a unique outlook on how compulsive behavioural disorders shape the lives of those affected and associated to those with these disorders. She is also the captain of her school's wrestling team and spearheads multiple political clubs on campus. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

My Beard and Chest Hair Have large patches missing due to this disorder and a half an eyebrow goes missing every now and then. Thank you for helping to inform the masses

Similar here. Half my eyebrows are still missing from a couple of weeks ago, and the last couple of days I can't seem to leave my beard alone. Happy to have come across this talk as well as your comment :)

No. Please don’t put Jada into the same category as people who suffer from trichotillomania. First of all, Jada does not have trichotillomania; she has alopecia. She’s also a manipulative narcissist who laughed at her husband’s suffering after she cheated on him and then threw it in his face (while smirking at him) on tv. She’s a bad example of a victim, even if she was unfortunately made fun of for her hair. I get what you’re trying to say, but please find a better example for your next speaking engagement. Never use a psychologically abusive individual as an example of a victim when you’re telling a story.

I think it's pretty clear that jada has alopecia not trichotillomania, the message from it is that the society is still not accepting someone who's looks different from others such as not having hair, and it's not important if she's manipulative or whatever, the important is the message behind.

While i completely want to agree i think it is also important to see the other side for a minute, it was not considerate of chris, if we disregard her and will's characters

Looking at all sides, Jada has always been toxic, and is not a sympathetic victim.

Sure, Chris Rock was what was wrong in that situation. I'm sympathetic to folks with anxiety disorders, because I have some of my own, but let's get over ourselves and get some therapy or whatever you need to do. Let's not pretend the Smiths are totally average people that were victimized please.

*TO LUCKY ONE THAT READ THIS*
    *Stop wasting your time complaining*
“People visit a wise man complaining about the same problems over and over again. One day, he decided to tell them a joke and they all roared with laughter.
After a few minutes, he told them the same joke and only a few of them smiled.
Then he told the same joke for a third time, but no one laughed or smiled anymore.
The wise man smiled and said: ‘You can’t laugh at the same joke over and over. So why are you always crying about the same problem?'”
    Instead of complaining, seek solution.
    I LOVE YOU. 💕 💕
