    My 2 comments as a 97 owner (4.0 V6 SOHC Xlt 4x4)
    1. Cut a hole in that black box. You can just move the blend door yourself.
    2. Timing chain cassettes... Replace the tensioners every 50k and use synthetic and you can avoid this
    3. Transmission - never had issues just get it rebuilt
    4. Never had issues
    5. Never had issues

My co-worker has a 2002 Ford Explorer that he bought brand new. It now has 379,000 miles. It is still the original engine, but he did install a brand new transmission at one point. He said it is built way heavier duty than this chincy plasticy junk nowadays.

My AWD SOHC has about 252k with original timing guide, and trans. No major repairs at all, most I did was a bigger pump and tune along with a (slight) cam. She's still runnin 22 years later, outlived the 2014 sentra I had

For any peeps with the 4.0 ohv or the x 8th vin digit code it's not a modular engine meaning it's not over head cam it's a pushrod engine timing chains are shorter with less problems than the modular v6 and v8s they can still have problems of course but just less common as well as the lower intake manifold likes to spring a coolant and/or an oil leak at the back of the engine and leak down on the cat under the car on the ohv hope I helped someone that noticed they don't talk about the pushrod engine in these like someone mentioned before the option for the modular v6 didn't come out until 97 but you could still get the pushrod engine all the way up to 99 like mine is love these tanks keep em alive🔥🔥💯💯💪💪

they made pushrod engines till 2001. The 5.0 is a pushrod engine the rwd explorers have the best combo ford 302 engine mated to a 4r70w transmission. Best engine and transmission available in these cars. They also showed the pushrod engine in this video

In regards to #2: Timing chain cassettes were an issue with the SOHC engines, which were not available (at least in the v6 form) until 1997. Explorers with V6s from 95-96 (and some 97s, as V6s were available in both the OHV and SOHC variants for that year) do not have that issue.

Right, the OHV engines were modified to come up with the SOHC engine. That said, you have to change oil often, and use synthetic. SOHC will last much longer that way.

I have a '97 4.0 with 155 k miles. Bought in 2013 for $2,500. A lot of little things to be done yet. Blend door of course, Passenger window gear, Gear shift pointer adjustment, Also, the front drive shaft had been removed before I purchased, so I basically have a 2 wheel drive. I am surmising the transfer case went bad ? I will probably keep it forever. Runs smooth as silk ! PS - Anyone have suggestions on drive shaft issue ? I have driven it for 30k miles as is. Thank You !

I have a 01 explorer sport only twice did it ever need a mechanic 1 for an O ring replacement (I was young at that time) and the 2nd time was when I poured motor oil in the transmission dip stick tube ( I got distracted and went in the wrong hole) and she's still going strong at 240k miles ** knock on wood** My only issue is the aerodynamics of this shoe box especially in this heavy rain and strong winds on the high way. Multiple close calls with hydroplaning due to the wind just jerking me to the side she's going to kill me on my way to work one of these days.
No joke any one got any ideas to combat this problem?

Ik you said it would be an 8 hours job to do it the official way, but if possible, could you guys do a video on how to get it out officially? • @Phoenix_AutoCO
    @Phoenix_AutoCO 11 днів тому

One thing to note as a few others have said is only the SOHC engines from 97 on have the timing chain issue, OHV 4.0 engines up to 01 have no such issue.
If you do happen to have the SOHC just change oil regularly and use quality synthetic oil, you shouldn’t have many issues. There are also aftermarket metal guides available if one was to decide to replace the timing chain, but be advised the engine has to come out in order to properly service them due to the jack shaft in the rear

Lights turn on/off when they arent suppose to, wipers turning on when they arent suppose to, lights flickering randomly, exterior temp gauge gives random readings at times, all sorts of electrical stuff. I think a lot of the probems have to do with the dimmer switch but i wont know until its replaced

Door handle internals a bit flakey and break up and the blend door went too but it's stuck in the cool position which is fine for my area.

I have an issue with my AC that maybe someone has already tackled. 2000 Explorer with EATC Electronic Automatic Temperature Control. I just bought it used, would go into AC mode and blow cold air for just a moment then air would get hot, also would not come out of correct air duct as selected and display would not fully light up, also has no control of fan speed, either off or wide open. I bought another EATC controller at salvage yard. Now display works properly and distributes air to proper location, still no control of fan speed and no can here blend door actuator clicking,(broken gear), replaced actuator, AC works when initially turned on and will continue to blow ice cold air however once I raise the temperature on the control panel I can hear the actuator move the blend door to allow hot air in and all seems to be fine until I try to go back to AC the blend door has no power to it to move the door unless I either unplugged harness from back of control panel or turn off ignition l and let sit for a long time then it will provide AC again until I make a change then my problem starts all over again and still have no control over fan speed, just off and HI. Sure would appreciate some direction.

But when I put it in 2nd it doesn't get loud but I can't go faster until I put it in drive...then it goes back into 1st then high RPMs then eventually back to 2nd then third... I took it on the highway to see if it would ever go into drive or whatever the final gear would be but I would have to dive over 65 and high RPMs for the final gear... It would but only last for a few seconds then back to lower gear... SMH. it's an automatic

The SOHC V6 is an interference engine design. If it jumps time or the chain breaks, you risk bent valves. That's why they call the noise an engine makes that has broken chain guides "death rattle." Don't use the vehicle until you get a timing job done, or just drive it and junk it when it craps out--they can go for a long time like that, or not.
