I just did a Blackstone UOA on my 2012 Toyota 2ZR-FE engine. The oil was Pennzoil GTL Platinum 0W-20. I installed the oil on *March 2nd 2020* and drained it on *April 30th 2023* with 8,500 mixed highway/city miles on it including lots of cold starts with immediate spirited driving and short trips. 3 years and 8,500 miles and it was PERFECT!!! Blackstone told me that this was not uncommon. The oil had a great level of wear metals, it was still within spec for its viscocuty grade, it plenty of detergents and TBN left, and plenty of anti-wear package to continue protecting the engine even longer. I was absolutely stunned. I thought for sure that they would tell me the oil was acidic, loaded with metals and particulate, and sheared to oblivion and it wasn't protecting the engine correctly anymore. Blackstone said I could have gone to 10,000 irrespective of the time needed to get to that mileage. They said "Your sample is proof of just how amazing modern synthetic oils really are." I have always been a believer in Pennzoil's GTL Platinum and Ultra Platinum, but this just blew my mind. So much advancement has occured since the days where that SA 30 grade oil was what all cars and trucks would use. We're now at API SP rating and some engines which are well designed and not hard on their oil can be used with a supplemental bypass filtration system for 25,000-30,000 miles easily on just one engine oil fill. 😎👍 "OiL iS cHeAp, EnGiNeS aReN't! 3,000 MiLeS oR nOtHiNg!!!" Numbers are numbers. The oil is either good or it isn't. If the oil still has the additives and contains very little wear material, it's still good. To change it is extremely wasteful and an unnecessary expenditure of money.

For lawn mowers, etc. Even then, I use decent synthetic in everything.
