I think she wrote some truths in one of her books. She wrote that in the early days when they were dating he said something awful about how the house they were living belonged him. My son's father demanded we split everything 50/50, but he was 6 years older than me with an engineering degree and a full career. I was 19 working a waitressing job. It was awful and stressful. I learned my lesson and never allowed that to happen to me again. If I am supporting myself, I will remain alone. And I did until I found my amazing husband at 32. He is the provider for us. I work and contribute what I can, but he is the real provider, and I have no weight on my shoulders. It is a blessing that allows me to focus on our children, my husband, and our home. We are both blessed by him being a man and providing for us.
I had this also, the kids are grown with their own. I have always been grateful to have been able to focus on our home. We are empty nesters now. We take care of eacho bill ther, just in different ways 😍
This! Beside the fact of my personal beliefs the man should be the protector and provider, even if a more secular couple wanted to split things 50/50, that’s completely unfair to the party that makes less. Whoever makes more should contribute more, why would you want to place that undue and unnecessary stress upon your partner to match what you can contribute when they make a significant amount less? It may not be that he is stingy it could be he sees her give too much money to deadbeat relatives which that what it sounds like. When I saw my ex wife do this I immediately took over the finances. It caused a rift between us so I divorced her. The last I heard her and her grown kids are getting put out again. I remain single in my nice 4 bedroom suburban home comfortably and bills paid. Now all my money comes to me and not deadbeat relatives. Dwayne Wayne does not have to punch anybody's time clock and he can enjoy retirement. at a YOUNG age. I got married at a young age, 18 out of high school. Long story short. I think it might have something to do with her being a single mother before her marriage to him. You never know when something might happen whether death or divorce and she has to start being a sole provider again. From another interview I’ve watched they are both deeply religious and seem to raise their kids with that in mind, so I respect them and think they are still decent role models.

The one thing I've never understood is this split money mentality. My parents have been married for 42 years, both made good money. It's always been their money. Not dad's money and moms money. This is a big reason why I think marriage is suffering, among other things. It's supposed to be a lifelong partnership. If you go into a relationship as mine and yours as opposed to ours, you are already setting yourself up to fail. Also, at 70+ years old, they still very much love eachother. Little things like holding hands, spending most of their time together while also know when the need space, oh and that little thing where they actually tell eachother they love the other. Teamwork makes the dream work! Haha
I always thought it was a very American thing where people focus way more on their individualism. I live in middle Europe and here it is very uncommon to have seperate bank accounts. My mom bought them an apartmant when she was 22, then when my mother gave birth to me then to my sister she stayed at home for 6 years and then my dad worked really hard. It was always their money.
Funny thing is that the only 2 family I know that seperates their bank accounts were the families of my 2 exes. Sad thing that the 2 men I cared about did not share these values, eventhough it is more common here than not.

Yeah it’s weird to me too. My parents always shared everything and my husband and I do too. I can’t imagine either person nor knowing exactly where all the money is going. It would give me so much anxiety to not be on the same page, working together.
