Looks cool, how does the slow mo work multiplayer wise? obviously he can't just do slow mo for one player, if someone goes slow mo in front of you does it affect you too so its potentially like a double edged sword if they've better aim?
Dude tbh, I become more & more impressed every year at what small & single man dev teams have done lately. It's really cool to play games that feel like they're made with passion. Both "the ascent" & "midnight fight express" gave me that feel. Shout out to all the devs that still care ❤
Road to Vostok in another single dev game but I think recently he hired some people to help with the game but the fact that one person can create a good game is very telling. Out of Action looks decent I'll be keeping my eye on it for sure.
I dare to say I have more hours in games made by 1-3 devs than in triple A games over the last 5 years. Mostly not perfect games in any way and sometimes clunky but different and refreshing. If you make a painting you don’t do it with a big team and all kind of managers telling you what to do. That is why I think indie games are the real art of gaming. Edit : just checked and 550 hours in Empyrion for example.
In recent years, many single-person devs have been creating mind-blowing games better than many AAA games. These talented people are otherworldly, and I thank them for their hard work.
Youd be surprised to know who truly runs the gaming industry as a whole now. Different entities all under the same evil interests. They have no interest in making games... in fact, their goal is to make skill irrelevant through "subtle" algorthms all while trying to stimulate addictive patterns. Most people dont know themselves in the slightest, nevermind how our evil world is truly run so ima end this here.
We will probably never hear from this game again for another year or two, if it gets released at all, yeah it looks cool will it be finished? Who knows and we should reserve judgment when it’s released, if it is released.
I get a little bit of FEAR Combat vibe and I'd love that. It used to be my favorite game. Just yesterday I watched your video on Team17's game that's clearly heavily inspired by FEAR. If this is where trends are going, then it's great!
BF2042 is good too & I’m ready to get my beta code for xdefiant bc if I like it I’m switching completely from COD to Xdefiant, but this looks like it may be played some by me too lol
I honestly have nothing but respect for single devs, especially ones that make this good of a game. I mean at a AAA studio its ONE PERSON'S job to work on sound design, or UI, viewmodel animations, third person animations, gameplay, etc. In fact, most of these positions have multiple people if not over a dozen people working on it. Most AAA games have hundreds of people working on them at one time. These guys lwent to school on how to do just ONE of these positions. Indie devs are doing all of them at once. It's insane.
I want to know how the slow motion works with other players in a match...do other players see u moving slowly or does everyone go in slow motion at the same time? is there a radius to it?
If it's anything like The Specialists, it is an effect local to the player who initiates it. Back in TS, you would see people who were very far away from you fighting each other in slow motion.
Love the cartoonish art vibe it has!!! Looks sick and refreshing! Man I hope a lot of the small indie studios keep grinding and reach massive heights so us as the consumer can actually get good games again!
Literally one of my favourite art styles even down to the plumes of smoke from the weapons are great. Seen this on Big fry channel the other week. Sooo hope this game does well. Nice one Jack
Gives me hope for my game I am conceptualizing. Just need to spend time learning what I need to get it done outside work. Love this aesthetic so much. It gave me Planetside vibes right off the bat. Cell shading? If it is, I love it.
This just goes to show that passion is the most important part of game development. One man with passion is more capable than an entire studio of passionless devs.
this is incredible. and the art style i LOVE. so amazing. what does the slow motion look like when someone else does it on you? do they move faster (so you can't hit them) or are you actually slowed down?
This looks outstanding! The specialists was my absolute favourite mod for Half-Life back in the day. One guy named I think 'Entik' was pretty much the Neo on every server he joined.
We were thinking of making a game with similar look and feel. This is a perfect reference for us. Will definitely try this game when it comes out and closely follow its progress. Thanks for sharing.
The one thing that stuck to my head and I'll quote u on it is "I think there's a gap in the market for stuff like this" absolutely agree... Seeing some projects like this one and the finals for exp makes u think about what the FPS/ shooter games market could look like in the future...
As an architect turned designer of virtual spaces for VR turned game developer for mobile fitness FPS games I am loving the art style and game play! I am super impressed. Way to go Doku!
This really reminds me of Double Action Electric Boogaloo, a free source engine game I used to play back in the days and that I really miss playing (tried to boot it up a few days ago and it barely had any players) Really excited to see where this is going
I'm actually surprised that F.E.A.R. never got a mention during this video, it is obvious that the developer has taken inspiration from that game's visual design & atmosphere if not also its mechanics.
I love the simple geometry and clean AF lighting, these are two things alot of big developers just do not understand when trying to make a competitive shooter, too focused on making things look busy for their E3 demos that theirs just too many outside factors that effect your ability to shoot the person in front of you.
In early 2000 I have collaborate with both Day of Defeat and The Specialist as level designer... Very cool times. One of my Maps was also selected as official in DOD 😅
Wow this actually looks really promising - looks like a ton of fun with a lot of potential. Hopefully he keeps it going and we get access sooner rather than later, I can definitely see this becoming a viral hit.
I love the lighting AND the darkness A LOT. Most new FPS get brighter everytime while shooters in a darker atmosphere are so much cooler! Looks gorgeous! 🔥
Reminds me of a more recent Source mod in the Max Paynesque genre that's been trickling off in numbers over the last few years but provided hours of fun. Double Action Boogaloo. Exciting stuff, looking forward to seeing more!
That cel shaded art style kicks ass! The game play and mechanics look very simple and clean. Totally gonna wishlist it now. I'm really interested in the PvE aspect
YOO i remember playing mods like the ones you talk about around that time or after. That Double Action Boogaloo parkour/shooter game was INSANELY FUN, honestly more fun than most AAA titles
I hope this does well. I like seeing indie games succeed, especially during a time where a lot of AAA studios seem to be lacking creativity. Its good to see passion and originality get rewarded.
This game gives manhwa common asset vibes, with the lines and shading to match in the best possible way - I can see this being a style base for a lot of games to come
Is super cool seeing the different mechanics from other games all in one! Ya get: -Sonar like splinter cell -Stim heal animation from battlefield 2042 -slow motion from max payne -genii reflect bullets like genji in Overwatch Etc etc So Cool!!!!
@Doku and Jack, completely unrelated to gaming. This video and the story of Doku making a game by himself has given me some needed motivation on a passion project. Thank you both!!
For the entire first minute I kept waiting for the words "Action Half Life" and boom, there they were. I used to run a The Specialists server back in the day. We need more of this kind of thing!
This is actually mind blowing, so impressed that this kind of thing is possible nowadays!
The new generation of games is going to be crazy good 👀
first thing i thought after seeing the Style it reminded me of XIII but modernized. Pretty cool
Overrated

Really appreciate the coverage Jack.
Keep going man! The game looks fantastic
looks really cool man keep it up. I wishlisted the game :)
This game looks so good man ! big up

This looks awesome! Nice work man.

Midnight fight express is one of those games I'd never have heard of not for game pass. Grabbed it to own moments after playing a bit.
quite fascinating that one man can create such a detailed game for just one dev
The power of modern game engines :)

No it doesn't. Its a hallway shooter cell shaded. Hats off to the skill set of this guy doing it but come on now.
Thank you so much guys for covering this project. Doku is one of a kind. He deserves this so much.
Wait, this actually looks insane.
Demo is available on steam now, it is indeed insane. :)
This looks badass. I love how the environment seems realistic then u get a different art style with the characters
I love the art style, it looks fun, and its refreshing to see someone try something different in the fps scene, innovation leads to incredible things
Jack, thanx for showing off this kind of stuff. Man, this is so inspirational!
The art style is giving me a modern XIII vibe (one of my favorite games of all time)
Exactly what I thought of! Surprised Jack didn’t mention it. Even the way the rocket smoke trails look, love that style.
Jack mustn't have played XIII. The original game still stands out to me as one of my favourite games of all time.
Think exactly the same 😊
This is giving me such specialists vibes! That mod absorbed so much of our time on LAN parties back in the day.
This game is looking good, thanks for covering this to give smaller devs the recognition they need! Love the content Jack!

The style and mechanics of this looks absolutely unreal, best I've seen for many years. Amazing work Doku!

Me too
aaaaaaaaaaaaaa
i was hoping throughout the whole video that he would explain that exact thing about the slow motion, but unfortunately he didnt
If it's anything like The Specialists, it is an effect local to the player who initiates it. Back in TS, you would see people who were very far away from you fighting each other in slow motion.
This is what i wondered aswell
these are the kind of developers i love to see and hope get as much support as they can, they have such pride and ambition poured into their games.
This art style is so timeless.
The art style is so different yet so fitting
Love the cell shading style
Love the cartoonish art vibe it has!!! Looks sick and refreshing! Man I hope a lot of the small indie studios keep grinding and reach massive heights so us as the consumer can actually get good games again!

Whenever I see slow-motion diving and shooting in an FPS, I immediately think of The SpecialistsMod.
This just goes to show that passion is the most important part of game development. One man with passion is more capable than an entire studio of passionless devs.
I’ve been watching this game progress and I NEED TO PLAY IT. Please, Doku.
The fact the unfinished product looks as good as it does is promising. Can't wait to see how this project turns out when its done.
How you code slow motion for a player and not for the others is out of my ability to comprehend :)
