The story line, character development, plot, dialogue, and production on this short are so Goddamned undervalued. This is so good.
This cant be finished we need a part two , I need closure.
Fresh meat for dinner.
How's that for closure.
"We're going to a well! (stands pissing /{ ...)
"We found 'water'. :D
Don’t mind the closure....he’s gonna die still.
The hideous creature accepts the gift of the still living, but highly broken Joshua, the water waster. Joshua is left tied to wreckage screaming for help. The creature devours him alive and looks at Alexander and walks away, never to bother Alexander again.
That was better than most of the apocalypse movies I have see done mainstream. The acting and film location are just amazing, along with the script. WELL DONE !!
I personally feel like this has/had a lot of potential, this has a great miniseries vibe, good acting, solid CG, interesting yet simplistic story, and compelling world-building. Bit of a diamond in the rough
Id say better then the walking dead.
dont know why but i think this would make a great tabletop rpg game
Dear God, let there be more! :)
@@aj_the_infamous1013 god no
Well, now we know how the "lovers" died as well. The food poisoning didn't happen by chance. He wanted the girl and was probably targeting the guy, but she ate the tainted food instead. With the girl dead, either her lover didn't want to be without her and pulled the Romeo ending or Joshua finished him off as well to take whatever supplies were left. He's no dummy if he's a trained pianist. He's crazy or stupid like a fox. He put the rat in the water in an attempt to manipulate Alexander back to where he (Joshua) wanted to go. This guy is not someone to trifle with. He (Joshua) wanted to travel with Alexander, because it was obvious that Alexander was an "Alpha" male, which Joshua was not. Joshua wanted someone to protect him so that he could get sleep and be provided for, but the moment it looked as though he would have the upper hand he would compromise you. Go back if need be and watch his tactics. Everything he does puts Alexander out in front to take the brunt if something happens. People like that will only get you killed if you don't curb their used car salesman mentality. You're either better off alone or you begin operant conditioning and get the weasel to change it's behavior. If you don't, you'll be traveling with a snake and you won't know just when he'll strike. You've gotta sleep sometime...
The guy had a ring too, was married. I bet he really did eat the guy.
Wow u put a lot of thought into it,the title says pilot. U think there'll be more. Part 2 perhaps? Maybe I'll subscribe.
Exactly
You nailed the personality type.
You can not trust them. They are only concerned with surviving and being behind the action.
Best to either kill them or abandon them.
Military units know the type.
I say the other guy was just plain idiot.
Well, you've caught my attention 5 minutes in. What kind of beast/critter/whatever is so bad, that he'd rather blow his brains out than confront it? Have to find out...
Horrifying.

Here it's true: it's better to be alone than being in bad company
What if you are the bad company.
@@brucebernal65 Aren't we all sometimes?
Why he did it...
That was interesting. Better to be ALONE, Than Be with a Person who would risk both your lives not knowing heeding the magnitude of the given situation. Like the ending, you'll end up snapping and beating someone to DEATH.
Especially if anyone with you is a complete idiot.
"It's amazing how much damage a rat can do". Nice foreshadowing. Very well all the way through.
Cool...no cgi no huge special effects. Big studios need to learn this lesson that drama and suspense actually work...

the first scene... when killing yourself is less scarier....
I was totally locked in from the beginning. The suspense was great. Fear the unknown. Love to see a sequel.
@Jon Cocks Totally agree. Can't wait.
@MyGun4hire Alright Debby downer. Take it easy. Just an opinion right? ;) lol!
Was there any other episode of this. Amazing story. Surely they made more.
I know this is fake and all... But man did that kid piss me off more then anything. All because he wanted to go to a different place. Knowing he could of just taken half the water and just go. But no! He had to put both of them in danger and take away the little the old guy had. Smh what a piece of work

Joshua must be psycho. Why put rat in water when you barely have any? Did he kill the others he was with?
Joshua put the rat in the water to force the old man to go the way he wanted him to! He risked both their lives just to go the way he wanted to. With no idea if it was the right way. And no real plan

This was really good. The plot, the struggle, the unknown "thing". Definitely need a sequel. Where you you guys find these creepy places to shoot? I want to go there 😋. Look forward to a part 2

"Where you you guys find these creepy places to shoot?" if you google for images of abandoned buildings etc, you'll see that there's no shortage of creepy abandoned places. Heaps & heaps of 'em. Everywhere from the borscht belt to eastern Europe to the rust belt. Old hospitals, abandoned villas, empty factories...
This gripped me right away. Writing, acting, narration, the sounds/music; all were right for the plot. The visuals were captivating and powerful. A thought-provoking film. Thank you...♪
All the adequate polish currency in 6:36 and burning it right after. Nice touch. Greetings from Poland. Awesome movie!
That scene where the ships were on the bed of a dry lake behind Alexander. I thought that was that Lake in Russia? Of course they could have just green screen to him on to that Russian Lake
@@ashleysanford8645 You mean the Aral lake? I believe it is parts in Uzbekistan and parts in Kazakhstan. Now there are only two smaller lakes left and the rest is dry. The world can thank socialism for that disaster as well.
Not disgusting at all eating fried insects. Now raw would take some getting used to!
And I've been to that abandoned building - there's a much better hiding place in the basement....😊
Holy shit so fucking good.
HOW ARE THEY SURROUNDED BY TREES AND ITS NO WATER?/
Comment 667, breaking the 666 😄 Anyway... that loud mouth guy is trouble, personally I'd prefer to go at it alone than with someone like that. SMH. He has managed to stay alive but apparently he hasn't acquired much common sense as a result of it.
Excellent! Had me riveted the whole time.
liked it so much I even read the credits twice. Didn't remember seeing it 3 years ago (see comment below) but thought it seemed familiar. Forgot Joshua put the rat in the jug. Sweet ending if you're not expecting it! Really , really liked it and kudos to a fine , and obviously dedicated crew. Series??? Sequel?????
WOW! I almost turned it off. Another dystopia future flick, post plague(har Har so original thought I. Then the towering WTF IS THAT BEHIND ME!?!? showed up. Now the best part and my God yall did it perfect. Right up until Josh comes screaming out of the dark, you thought hmm is Alex crazy? (Aug 27 Monday, makes him sound a bit off) it's all I his head the monster is just schizophrenia brought on by being alone for so long. Especially since despite saying he doesn't wanna be around anyone yet he keeps going back to save Josh. He'll even when we see the out of work nazgul show up. Your still going naaah how could nobody have heard of this thing? Then we get to see not only is it very real but it's huge and awesomely powerful. It's also apparently the source of the "infection " it apparently doesn't tear you up but gives you the whatever. All in all I really hope this picks up. Right at the end I realized this isn't about being chased by a monster. It's about man vs madness and at what point do stop being a man and become the monster. What does being alone do to you? And is the true monster the thing chasing you or you? What will you do to survive? The tension was palpable and yet not contrived. We've only seen the beast kill one thing a cat(and maybe the other animals) 1 claimed to have seen it kill. It's purpose seems to be wiping out everything, not eating or surviving. Last why the he'll is it radioactive?
Oh and "can it power my phone?"
My man looks at him like "really? Checking Facebook ?"
_"Man's true nature escapes during crisis. And once it does, there's no going back"_
*-Me, just now*
I watch to the end. That's just not a compliment. This is really good story and there's no movie made like this anymore. Goddamn you. I need (demand) the end of the movie.
I liked pretty much everything about this film but Joshua's character development. There's no rational way he could have avoided death long before this even given his backstory of hiding out in a stocked building. After that ended he had been months without human contact (his words) so I'm supposed to believe he transformed into a mountain man eating maggots to survive like Alexander? And the rat thing? He's just too stupid to be believable. If they had made him a bit more hardened and pragmatic from those months of solo survival it would have aligned better with the post apocalyptic setting. If he had recently popped out of a isolated bunker/redoubt/basement then his character would have fit.
Joshua was lying. He was incapable of surviving solo, and he hadn't been surviving solo for long because in the beginning the box he's struggling with is the last of the supplies from the shelter. He caught a rat, tried to poison the "alpha male" to take his "woman," and, instead, poisoned her by mistake. Then, to secure all of the supplies for himself, he poisoned the "alpha male" as well. At least that's what I got from it.
Yeah Joshua was driving me crazy from the very beginning. Maybe growing up hunting and farming made me naturally dislike people that wont shut up. :/
Episode 2! Please!
Dang less than 5 mins in and I'm nervous. Thats ultimate scary when you ready to end it before something else does. Great job
Exceptional work on all ambience production factors. Actors, too. Ver fine. But where is the MacGuffin?
Love watching these, when he took a bite of that mars bar it's like paradise to him or reminds him of when times were good... shit I'd be same way to
Excellent film! One of the best shorts I’ve seen. Congratulations on a fine story line.
This was really good.
This is the best dystopian short that I have ever watched IMHO.
I even read the credits!
Good show guys!! 👍 Now try and do it again, hopefully someone watching has deep pockets.
What an incredibly nice thing to write on here. Thanks!!
Why did I get hungry watching the opening scene?
I'm worried
Yeah is tasty
I would of have not gone back to save that dude. Fm the beginning he was a nusense, a pain in the butt, the kind of person who will do everything to get his way. Nope. Alone is 1000% better then bad company.
Here is the question is having after everything you know can the young guy ever be trusted.
Is company really worth all that or is it better to be alone. I have seen these leeches my whole life. They never take a stand hide behind everyone an everything. They only think of themselves. Drugs brings that out you see what someone will do for a high. Now imagine if it was life or death. I like to try to see good in everyone but its hard in the city. Really Baltimore isn't a stretch from this dystopia. Only thing missing is the rulers that would still have everything.
Good short movie
Do not let other people try to persuade you to do things their way.
in that case, never ever hook up with another human being.
"Post-apocalyptic" rather than "dystopian", methinks.....
Anyone remember the short film "R'ha?" With the alien being interrogated by the machine? This film is made by the same guys - the actor here, David Masterson, is the voice of the machine and the alien in "R'ha."
I saw that. It was amazingly good.
@@gregoryeverett9811 Indeed. 😊
@Benjamin Reichle "R'ha", one of my favourites. This one is on a par with that short but with a completely different scope and premise. The tension held throughout. Not easy for the director or the actors to accomplish. Masterson is outstanding. He should be a renowned action star. They guy is riveting.
Kudos all around.

Part two, please. That creature was crazy looking! Glad it wasn't 15 min long but still too short. Well done !!
It's one of those times I actually can't say anything.
I have no minor points of criticism, I have no ideas for other options I saw along the way - even ones which wouldn't have been much of an improvement.
This was better done, in every respect, than movies with hundreds of million dollar budgets and big, impressive sounding producers, directors and actors.
Thank you for showing me that films have not died, replaced by remakes of a sequel reboot according to a formula calculated to maximize profit.
