- Join us on a fun-filled day as we teach the kids Bahasa Malaysia and Hokkien through our daily activities in Penang! From visiting bustling markets to enjoying delicious local food, it was an adventure packed with learning and laughter.
Our day began at the Mount Erskine wet market, where we searched for a tasty breakfast and practiced our language skills. Next, we drove up to Teluk Bahang to collect some amazing durians we had ordered from the farm. The journey was not just about the durians but also an opportunity to immerse the kids in Bahasa Malaysia and Hokkien.
After our durian adventure, we headed back to the Tanjung Bungah wet market, where Naomi put her language skills to the test while buying groceries. It was a funny yet educational experience, and she definitely learned a thing or two!
For lunch, we stopped by Long Sheng Kopitiam, known for its delicious char koay teow and roast duck rice. Once again, Naomi practiced her dialect skills while ordering, making for a fun and interactive meal.
In the evening, the whole family visited the pasar malam, where the kids enjoyed a variety of street foods like putu mayong, lok lok, boba tea, char koay kak, and more. The catch? They had to order everything themselves! It was a great way for them to practice and gain confidence in using the languages.
After a day full of learning and exploring, I treated myself to a durian feast and demonstrated the use of a durian opening tool I got from Lazada. It was the perfect end to a rewarding day.

Must keep our languages alive. Otherwise it will be lost forever.

Hahahaha just need to teach them our basic culture to respect their elders. :)
A very good way is by interacting with people. Well done 🎉. Soon the kids will be speaking fluently
Thank you thank you!!! If you see my kids please speak to them in Hokkien or BM hahahahaha
Your BM coaching session is sooooooo cute..... dadah, peta, sebentuk ayam 😂😂😂..... omg the screeching of the durian on the car roof. Hope no major scratches
The Ahh at 11:19 gets the message across effectively! 😂
Rewatched this video.... the BM & Hokkien practice makes me laugh. Hope Naomi has further mastered more now
Hi there, happy to have met you and Naomi at the Mt Erskine market. Keep up the good work ! 👍Enjoy all your posts
Thank you so much for saying Hi!!! It was a nice surprise. Hope we bump into each other again. The wanthan mee at Mt Erskine market is quite nice. 😄
ur kiddos are simply adorable !!
Thank you... my eldest going to be a teen soon. I am a bit scared hahahaha
That's the good one. I really enjoyed this video. Shoot more videos like this. I think you should talk to them hokkien n Malay. Don't talk to them english. So they will learn faster. Thanks.
Hahaha thanks... I will try. The kids spend most of the day at school, I only get to spend time with them in the evenings.
Tabik u bro!!! Soon Naomi can nego to buy 1 lori ayam n telor liao
Hahahaha must teach her how haggle prices soon!
Agree that ckt at long sheng is very good. Your missus is right. Okay tiau thng also good. But you should try the curry mee. I drink soup dry! 😂
Wah really kah? Tomorrow I go makan and see, today was closed! :)
With more practice, she will eventually pick up the Penang Hokkien dialect and Bahasa Malaysia....
Those durians looks wonderful and there is "bak yu" too, huh 🤤🤤
Oh the white one is a Capri... small one only. But so smooth and flavorful
Mantap uncle..naom confirm lebihi confident ckp melayu dan hokkien lepas ni..
Mesti teruskan perjuangan! Thank you bro...
hello good morning bro eat durian ho Liao yummy have a great day with your lovely kids❤😢😅
Hi bro... wah I ate a lot yesterday... hahahaha, today must rest a bit
😆Good video. Good start to your new Vlogs. Enjoy the interaction Naomi with all the shop keepers. It's a good start for her. I hope we can see improvements in her usage of bahasa, mandarin and hokkien in subsequent videos .
@@espymu I will keep this up for sure.... she needs to take her Bahasa exam too so I will ensure she improves
Greetings from S’pore! I just got back from a holiday in Penang. Love your content. Durians….😊
@@PLLee-u9h thanks so much!!! It is great to be "neighbours"!
Soo cute
@@mollychan3436 It is helping! on Friday I mety daughter's teacher and he said her BM has improved!
Good way to enable children to speak dialects/languages...😅😊
I think the real way to learn languages is to use them... we all need to practice to get better, whatever language we want to learn! 😄
To learn a language they just have to be around the speakers more. They hear they learn. Personally you parents would be very good influence. Practice what you teach. Speak hokkien, Malay on set days . My experience from teaching pre school. 😂
Yes good advice. Must be more conscious to speak to them in the different languages!
Never tot Naomi BM, Hokkien so char😊... should implement "stick n carrot" method to improve..."stick" reduce pocket money😊 "carrot" reward with gift, etc. Normally after eat durian will drink Three Legs cooling water. 12:13 see often u drink tea with lime (limau Kasturi)..Seen farmers spraying huge amount of pesticide onto the limes at the farm, advisable not to drink unlesss without the skin or soak in salt water b4.
I think language is not something we can teach like other academic subjects, it is a means of communication and just needs to be practiced often. I know lots of students who get high marks for language but can't really speak it properly too. :)
Yes true, dun worry she will be able to speak BM
What about the CKT at Sin Lee Hin kopitiam just 2 shops away from Golden Crust? Have you tried it before?
the corner one on the left? Yeah tried it some time ago... Ok lah. I think this fella's one is better
@@pishedbloke Noted, I will check it out. Thanks for sharing, bro. 😀
How about getting a Hokkien Language book?
Yeah I used to see some at Popular maybe can check it out :)
Bro. Were you and John Ooi in the same Form 3 class?
Yes... with Ramesh, Dave Singh, Haidzar, Cheam, Kenneth...
@@pishedbloke You all grew up in an excellent multi-racial, multi-cultural setting, and the non-Malay students could speak good Bahasa because of their interaction with the Malay boys.
@@yukonjakun4826 oghang Kedah bro.... ☺️☺️☺️
hey uncle, situation learning. best place to learn a language is to be in a right surrounding not interfered by other interactions. Kids learn very fast though than adult. If you want to learn BM, you must be living in the Malay community likewise Hokkien that you are able to hv opportunity to use it daily. If my kids are young, I will encourage them to learn Mandarin as a pre requisite for future employment...the language of money.😀
@@u2ber888 totally agree, I learned BM well because I grew up in Kedah! But in Penang, the kids have less chances than me, so we need to do what we can.
@@pishedbloke sorry I like to call everyone uncle followed the children for respect though i'm older 😂. It took me 20 years to learn German/Jap that I did only 3 mths residing & working over there 😔.
👏👏👍👍👍❤
Putu mayam not putu mayong.
I think most important for learning any dialects is to learn all the bad words/vulgarities first, so hope you will impart your wisdom on your children 😂😂 just kidding
@@Jelloc 😆😆😆 hahaha that is how I learned too... LOL. Except Mandarin... they have much less vulgar words than Hokkien or Cantonese, right?
@@pishedbloke yes agreed! That's why all the more we need to impart hokkien and canto vulgarities to the next generation
@@Jelloc Hahahahaha I need to create a new channel for this LMAO!
