Well technically Chuck Jones didn't get what he wanted. Chuck Jones made the cartoon the that it is because producers didn't want him to copy Disney's animation style so he veered into the completely opposite with limited animation.
For context, all those Looney Toons cartoons are public domain, due to copyright neglect. The Copyright Act of 1909 only guaranteed copyrights for an initial period of 28 years, which needed to be renewed to be extended further. It's only since the Copyright Renewal Act of 1992 that the requirement for a renewal registration has been removed, retroactively applying to all work published since 1964. Therefore many works published between 1929 and 1963 are public domain, despite being more recent than 95 years. There's actually a whole list of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons that are in this situation, that can easily be found on Wikipedia.
I love the implication that after hearing “Help!” for the first time, the three brothers just stood around waiting for confirmation for long enough to receive a telegram before going to rescue their collective fiancé!
This short was so ahead of its time in comedy. It subverts so many expectations audiences back then and even now would have from the typical burly hero saves the damsel in distress. - All three Dover Boys are apparently engaged to Dora somehow. - They find hide and seek to be an engaging date activity. - They are presented as the heros as the narrator subtly makes fun of their traditionally chivalrous repertoire (slips in calling them "jerks"), "moral fortitude," etc. - The "damsel in distress" is like a doll who literally can't be taken advantage of because she's ridiculously strong lol. - The over the top gag of the scout being literally right outside of the cabin looking in, but runs across a mountain, using flag signals to explain the situation to someone right in front of him, who then uses morse code to deliver a telegram all the way to the "heroes" to come save her. - The way you feel bad for the "villain" as he's literally the the biggest victim at this point. And then I learned this was all a parody of the Rover Boys, so the layers go even deeper for those who are familiar with those books.
“Telegram for the Dover Boys! Misters Tom, Dick, and Larry [?????] Says as quote: ‘*HEEELP!!!!!!!!!* 👹👹’ Unquote, signed Dora. 35 cents collect.” I found this way too funny 💀💀

That's so unfortunate for Joe, with all the work he must have done on this back in the 40s. I hope no one ever steals his work from him
