WHO IS CATNAP?!
Catnap is the main boss of Poppy Playtime Chapter 3: Deep Sleep. He’s a giant monstrous purple cat-like creature who roams the halls of Playcare - and he’s AWESOME. He has glowing eyes and has the ability to breathe out a hallucinogenic red gas. As soon as we saw him, we knew we had to turn him into a huge custom animatronic.
We made the frame of our Catnap animatronic with PVC pipes and built up the shape of his body using wires and duct tape. Catnap’s giant head was custom sculpted out of XPS foam, and his whole body was covered in short purple fur. His back arches up and down with the help of a wiper motor, his head turns side to side using a servo. and he even breathes out red smoke (aka Poppy Gas) thanks to a hidden microfogger in his chest.
We love how our real life Catnap turned out! He’s going to make to the perfect companion to our animatronic Huggy Wuggy and Springtrap animatronics. Who do you want to see us make next?

You know that it's a good prop/animatronic if it's game-accurate. And despite the red smoke thing because I know that is a hard practical effect to do, this is beyond game-accurate. The red LED ring to recreate it was a great idea to still pull it off though. Watching the whole process from start to finish and seeing him come together kept me wowing nonstop. You two have really outdone yourselves with this one. Well done!
i mean yah using that kind of red gas exists in real life but it is toxic
@@kitty79erGood thing there are safer options to represent the "poppy gas." Also, there are gases that are flammable, but it would be best to avoid that type of gas, too.

I love how they show their mistakes and when they mess up because as someone who has extreme trouble doing things because the second somthing goes wrong I get mad thinking everyone else can just do it right. This helps me realize you can mess up and still keep going and make a freaking AWESOME project if you don’t give up

The endurance and knowledge to keep on going, even though mistakes. Well done! If they make a Poppy Playtime play place/funhouse, they should hire you guys. You did an absolutely great job on catching the game details as well as knowing your limits but using that as an advantage.
The visual accuracy of these animatronics are BEYOND anything I've ever seen in industry-haunt animatronics

Could you imagine running into this in a haunt? I kinda worry a tiny bit about the durability of the animatronic, since it's really built to video and not to last a season or ten. I can also imagine further exploiting the Arduino running the neck motor. Could you imagine some pressure mats on the floor or passive IR motion sensors tied to this thing so it turns its head to _look_ at you as you pass?
I mean, yes, at this point it's actually fairly possible to build a machine vision system and have your animatronics lock eyes with guests, but even a simple interactive element would terrify most people.

To be honest your builds are so simple that it makes it easier to move and look cool. This animatronic is much more fluid then some at Disney land! Disney has such complex animations making them less fluid. It seems like simple things are better then complicated ones. (Edit) woah I’ve ever gotten more than two likes. Thank you. {second edit} My god. I would never dream of getting so many likes, and a comment, not to mention it being by the creators themselves!

On a side note the back movement makes it look like he's breathing, which is such a creepy detail for a toy that (from what I understand) has a loving person in them
I love how this animatronic incorporated so many little things from your previous projects! You're always finding ways to improve on something and take every new creation to the next level. I love the way you accentuated his bones, it looks SO good. The muppet stitching is also massively impressive. And the motion you gave him is genuinely unnerving... while it really does look like an idle animation in a video game, it also looks incredibly organic and subtle enough where it feels like I'm looking at something that is legitimately alive and breathing. It's super uncanny! Fantastic video as always, guys.

@@WickedMakers I love your guy’s work, you guys inspired me to start making diy projects of my own except a little less complicated, I think it would be really cool if you guys re did some of your old projects to show how much you improved, I also think it would be cool to see the paper mask from the backrooms or m3gan, there is also a new Blum house movie called “imaginary” it’s about a teddy bear that turns into a bony/skinny creature that is similar to Catnap. It would also be cool to see dog day or mommy long legs, keep the great work.

so yes, duct tape didn't stick to that kind of foam because it's pores are fairly closed. if you used a foam with more open pores, it'd likely stick better, but it wouldn't be permanent.

in a way, i really think the visible seams only add to this. catnap (along with the other characters in the series) is literally a toy-turned-monster, it only makes sense for there to still be a bit of that 'toy' aspect still present visually

Wow epic epic all the way must have been a lot of work for this and tons of hours in creating the Cat Nap loved all the machinery and mechanics for the animictronic even the entire make this one is definitely a masterpiece this definitely deserves an award for the best animictronic very well done and very well put together beautifully 👍✨

I'm honestly blown away by this. It looks better than professional. You guys are really inspiring. Your creations have been fanastic from the beginning, but the extent to which you've added and honed skills over time is shocking. 3D printing, electronics, robotics engineering, upholstery… and the level of painting and sculpting is absolutely world-class. I gasped when I saw that fully sculpted head. I don't even know this game or character, but I love this animatronic so much. Last point: the motion is so fluid and natural, and the breathing effect gives it so much life. I wish haunted attractions and theme parks had animatronics that moved like this.

I love how both of you are seemingly in sync and seemingly are always on the same wavelength. Sometimes you can tell that two people love eachother but don’t fully understand what their partner finds interesting and just sorta follow along like “yeah, cool, ok” but they aren’t as enthusiastic about it, but you two both are at the same level of enthusiasm all the way through
