There are so many huge mammoth books I haven't read yet and I love the idea of this video! =) I never realized that "Gone with the Wind" is such a big book. *lol* Great video, Mitzi! =)
I’ve read Gone with the wind and Anna Karenina.liked/loved them both. Read middlemarch and didn’t care for it. Although I’m tempted to try a reread and see if I change my mind. Same with lonesome dove, never read but would like to, as well as both Dickens.
Thank you! I just LOVE this time of year for books! I have also chosen Gone With the Wind as one of my Mammoth reads. My next choice is P.D. James. I LOVE mixing Mammoth and March Mystery Madness. Oh what fun! Its also a fabulous way to get through those lingering dreary winter days.
I will plan on reading Lonesome Dove with you. I’ve wanted to read that for awhile. Yay! I’ve read all the others (except Little Dorris) including the whole Bible and loved them all.
You’re very brave taking on these mammoths! I just don’t have the head space nor time to read a chunky book at the moment; I don’t like to take too long for a book as I start to feel like it’s dragging! Perhaps next year I will join this readathon! Enjoy these books in March! 😊📚
Thanks! I'm going to choose one mammoth and then the rest will probably be middle grade books, so shouldn't be too much. And, I don't plan on rushing the mammoth one either.
Like you, I hadn't read a western. However, I read Lonesome Dove last year and absolutely loved it. I would definitely recommend that you give it a try.
I read Lonesome Dove so many years ago and still remember it as one of the best books I've ever read!! I finally read Gone With The Wind two summers ago and loved it so much! I have both Anna Karinnina and Middlemarch on my shelves... I need to get to them both!
When I saw the title of this video I immediately thought of Lonesome Dove sitting on my shelf and then it was on your list 😊 I find it a bit intimidating but I’m also keen to read it at some point 😊
I have read Anna Karenina and I do think you will like it! Anna is one of my favorite complex characters. I know Tolstoy never intended her to be a character to root for but I still did lol. That book can be read any time of the year. There are great descriptive scenes that take place both during the cold Russian winter as well as during the summer/fall harvesting time.
I read “Anna Karanina” last year as a buddy read. I absolutely loved it! I would love to do a buddy read for “Middlemarch” sometime after March and before the end of 2022. I really love reading big books. I am buddy reading Mantel’s “Wolf Hall” trilogy. Rereading “Wolf Hall” in 2022 has made me love the book so much more. I am also looking forward to reading the next two. I am also doing a buddy read in March: “The Eighth Life” which is over 900 pages. I cannot spell or pronounce the author’s name. It has been a really popular book on BookTube. I too would like to read more Charles Dickens. I recently purchased a lecture about his work through the Smithsonian. The professor was really good. I recently bought “Oliver Twist.” Let me know if you haven’t read it, and would possibly be interested in doing a buddy read in the near future.” It is not as thick as some of his other books.
Little Dorrit is one of my favorites - but it's possibly the miniseries with Claire Foy that makes me like it so much. And WOW that Bleak House Edition is a CHUNKER. I haven't all the ones you mentioned - But I'd go with Little Dorrit.
I love long books, so this read along is a favorite of mine (I also do March Mystery Madness). Lonesome Dove is a wonderful story; you don’t need to read westerns to enjoy it. Larry McMurtry was a wonderful writer! I also love Gone With the Wind; it goes into much more depth with the characters, especially Scarlett, than the movie. Great books in your video to choose from! 📚📚
Seems like Middlemarch would be the book since the month is in the title. 😆 I’ve heard that it is good. I’m reading Moby Dick and it’s the biggest book I’ve ever read. I’m stepping out! 💕
A, a topic near and dear to my heart! Every summer, I host the #BigBookSummer Challenge, from end of May to beginning of September, sop if you don't finish your Mammoths in March, join the fun this summer! (Big Books for my challenge are defined as 400 or more pages) In fact, I read that exact same version of Gone with the Wind for Big Book Summer 2020 and loved it - enjoy! And ... I read Anna Karenina for Big Book Summer 2021! It's excellent - I think you'll like it - easier to read than I expected. I haven't read Little Dorit yet, but I LOVE Dickens :) The Book Cougars podcast did a readalong of Bleak House for the Big Book Summer Challenge last year. Middlemarch is another great one! I read it for a book group about five years ago - it took me over a month but I really enjoyed it. I haven't read Lonesome Dove yet, but I'd like to - I don't read many Westerns either (though True Grit, a short one, is outstanding). Great choices! I also wanted to tell you that yours is one of my new favorite channels :) So, I tagged you in my new original All About Me Tag. Check out the video, and if you'd like to, join the fun with your own tag video! ua-cam.com/video/IyLbrmTSBTI/v-deo.html
I hope you pick Middlemarch. I’m not sure I’ll get started on that in March. I like the sound of the redemption Bible. Unfortunately I need large print on Bibles.
I'm having the same issue with large print. I've worn contacts/glasses since middle school and now I have the reading glasses issue. So I now take off my regular glasses to read the print! At church they dim the lights and so now I must have large print to read along there. I've actually been doing some on audio when my eyes get tired, too.
I'm about halfway through Anna Karenina right now and I'm hoping to finish it in March. I am really enjoying it! I loved Middlemarch. The beginning was slow for me, but I read the last 200 pages in five hours! My mom just read Lonesome Dove and she loved it. I'm hoping to get to it this year. Bleak House is really good, so many good characters. That picture of Charles Dickens is so cool! 😍
I have not read any of the books on your list except for the Bible. I have all of them and am excited just thinking about reading them. However I am reading The Three Musketeers with Tristan at Tristan and the Classics (it mayalso qualify for March of the Mammoths) so they must wait for another time. This is my first visit, but I will be back!
Thanks for letting me know that about Bleak House. I'll try to keeping goin on that one- and I'm glad to hear you loved Lonesome Dove- I'll give that one a go as well. 😊
So many great books to choose from! I’m not sure if I want to read: Gone With the Wind, Middlemarch, the Count of Monte Cristo, or one of the Dickens that you mentioned. I’ve also got Ron Chernov’s Washington so that’s a possibility too. 📚 Here’s to March of the Mammoths! 🦣
Thanks for making this video🤗 I was not aware of March of the Mammoths. It's a great idea! I think I will participate with Little Women. I love your edition of Bleak House. Love the picture of Dickens!
Oh, thanks! That was definitely a cover buy! I've always avoided that book, so I'm glad it had a pretty cover because I'm really enjoying it. So far, it's a page turner.
Lonesome Dove is my favorite book of all time. There are some difficult scenes but I just could not love these characters any more. I try to re-read this one every so often. And I do not read westerns either. And if you do read it, I highly recommend the mini-series as a follow-up.
I heard if the march of the mammoth readathon inhave never done one before but I am gonna to try to do this one. I read Swan Song by Robert Mccammon (919 pages) in January (LOVED It) and I think I am going to pick up Under The Dome by Stephen King 1000+ pages. Great recommendations. Thanks for sharing. Subscribed too #596. Peace love and happiness ~ Tracey
The only mammoth book I've ever read is the bible. I've read multiple translations of the bible and a chronological bible (this version of the bible was the most interesting to me). I read the daily walk bible which breaks up the reading of the bible into daily small chunks. I need to give mammoth novels a try.
I have the chronological bible, but not the daily walk one. I've been trying different reading plans and this year I did a 90 day using ESV and now I'm reading for 6 months with NIV. How did you like the Daily Walk one?
@@mitzireadsandwrites I love the Daily Walk bibles and the bibles in a year because it sections out the bible and you know exactly how much you need to read each day to finish reading the bible in a year. It also has introductions to each daily reading, historical information, and life applications. The Daily Walk bibles personally are definitely my favorite bibles to read.
I’m tackling War and Peace for March of the 🦣. I recently bought Lonesome Dove. Like you I am a little nervous because it is a western but it seems to have great reviews
The Lonesome Dove is not like a typical western, it is a good adventure story 😉
Buddy reading a mammoth is a great idea - friends can be cheerleaders for each other.
Thanks for hosting this one! It really pushes me to get to these books that have been sitting on my shelf way too long.
Oooo yes Middlemarch! Those are all great options though! I’m planning on reading Our Mutual Friend and starting Les Mis in March!
I really liked Little Dorrit and I heard Lonesome Dove was great.
There are so many huge mammoth books I haven't read yet and I love the idea of this video! =) I never realized that "Gone with the Wind" is such a big book. *lol* Great video, Mitzi! =)
Good luck with your massive books. I’m saving middlemarch for victober this year 😊

Yes! And I love all of these readathons, too!

Someone mentioned the miniseries, so I think I'll read it then watch the adaptation to celebrate finally reading a western! 😂🤠
I read Lonesome Dove so many years ago and still remember it as one of the best books I've ever read!! I finally read Gone With The Wind two summers ago and loved it so much! I have both Anna Karinnina and Middlemarch on my shelves... I need to get to them both!
I'm enjoying GWTW so far and I really don't know why I waited this long!

Good to know- thanks, Kayla. I've always been interested, but I've just kept putting it off- it's way past time to get to that one.

I would love it if everyone would read middlemarch together!!
I didn't know about the Smithsonian lecture- I'll look for that! Thanks for letting me know!
I’ve got ALL of those books and want to read them all!! Thanks for giving me a nudge. Let us know which one you choose. 💕
I will, thanks!

Howdy Mitzi! Lonesome Dove by a landslide! I sh*t you not! You will love it!
Lonesome Dove seems to be the one to read because everyone who has read it keeps saying the same thing.

Lonesome Dove and its sequel are both 5* reads. I will be reading Stephen King's The Talisman in March. It is 767 pages.
Awesome! So far everyone who's commented that has read Lonesome Dove has shared your opinion so that's encouraging!

I hate westerns but Lonesome Dove is one of my favorite books of all time! Bleak House is wonderful but takes a while to get into. Happy Reading!

I've heard about the mini-series and thought that would be a great way to celebrate it. Never watched it, so I'll read the book first. Thanks, Cindy!
