Maybe the battery indicator turns red at 20% because it is better for the health of the battery to be between 20 and 80%. This looks like a very fine car. Wish VW would bring them to Canada.
The customer does not need to worry about the 20/80 rule as the battery is already protected by the manufacturer. The battery is larger than the quoted usable capacity. So you can never get it to a real 0%, the 0% you see will really be at least 10% remaining, same at the top end, you can never fill the battery you can only reach the 100% that VW limit the charge to.
@@idparkinson Yes and no, the car has a 6% buffer(difference between gross and net battery sizes), for the customer to not have to worry about the 20/80 rule the car should have a 40% buffer and that's a huge waste of battery capacity and weight. Customers need to be careful about battery discharge, but the 6% buffer wil prevent major damage unless you drain your battery too many times.
Can you tell VW that they should add an option to switch between km/min and kW when charging? Maybe in the settings or to tap on the Display like Taycan.

Hi. Thank you very much for these videos. I have ordered a Plus exactly as yours, white paint, white steering wheel :-) I have a question about the Lane Assist. Do you find it well functioning? Or do you miss the Travel Assist?
I have (U.S.) a ID4 Pro version reserved, is there any way you can look up the U.S spec’s to see if this IQ- Drive that comes standard on the Pro Model is the level two autonomous version. I would prefer to buy VW over Tesla, but I want the VW to have the same ability as autopilot on the Tesla and I’m not referring to FSD that may or may not be in Tesla’s future. Your one of the few people I watch that may know the answer to this important feature I want?
Very nice car! Good alternative to Model 3. Range is great, but why charging speed is limited to 100kwh? Model 3 50kw battery SR+ can take 170kw for a short amount of time.
Amazing to see you can actually do the full advertised range of 420kms in real life conditions!. Although I don’t understand why at the beginning of the video, the full charge shows only 297kms... how come this doesn’t show you more than that? That is a huge difference compare to the actual range... any idea?
Actually it's the same with other VAG EV. Initially it gives range based on previous driving style, elevation changes (and temperature?), but changes to more real range once you drive it
Wish you did a 100km/u test. This is the most common high speed (and also max speed) here in the Netherlands. In Germany it's still 130 haha.... (and they want to stop the unlimited speed autobahns right? Limit them to 130 all...) Anyway curious for your future video's on the ID3.
Yes, do the test at different speeds: 80 (most B-roads), 90 (used in France), 100 (Netherlands), 110 (used a lot in France), 120 (Belgium), 130 (France/Germany/Netherlands in some places and times). Then repeat at different times in the year at different temperatures. We also need wet/dry roads for all these combinations. Oh and wind speed needs to be registered, so we can correct for that.
Thanks! I saw you're using the We Charge card on a Ionity charger. On September 7th I received a email from We Connect: "We would like to inform you that the launch of the We Charge service from within the We Connect ID. app is expected very soon. As such, we have been informed that you will be able to see all available charging operators (other than Ionity) inside the app when the service launches." Do you have more information about the other charging operators?
I would have used the actual distance as per google maps instead of the one in the odometer, cars tend to show shorter distances than the actual ones, not by much, but every km counts.
As part of First Movers Club, will you ask for more EV data in display, like charge speed in kW, agreement between displays for % SoC, etc.? Thanks for video. Nice car.

Hi! Kleiner Tipp.

can the driver display be modified? I am really hating the left part with lane information, light background is really annoying and hard to read the icons in the bottom or car icon in the top. also it should be placed in the middle of the screen as it is on other car brands and its only logical. Large number for speed but really small power applied and recoup indicator? just a thin line at the bottom and its the same for power and recoup? can it recoup same amount that it can apply to the road? VW should let the driver display be modified and put it in next update, to give option to move elements on the screen and choose light/dark look and even perhaps resize option for elements. its digital, make it customisable. I am really hating the green icon on light background in driver display, for me a safety concern.

There is a reason why Elon went near Berlin, north of Germany has more Wind, so Tesla can green wash itself better, in Germany too.
Customers need to be careful about battery discharge, but the 6% buffer wil prevent major damage unless you drain your battery too many times.
there is such a big difference from 90 to 110 km/h in the range on my new Zoe! What do you expect in range between 90 and 110 on the ID3?
RaCoBe Test next week. Then we know.
Can you tell VW that they should add an option to switch between km/min and kW when charging? Maybe in the settings or to tap on the Display like Taycan.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. many of the future owners of this id3 will thank you. For when another test of autonomy to 120 km / h? Regards
Teslabjoern might have results at the end of the week, too.
@@abraxastulammo9940 Thank you. it will be interesting to see
Please do thus test in winter. Thanks.
Great car and awesome review. What a pity that this car is not available for purchase in Russia. So we have to use previous generation EVs. (
So you don't trust the reverse camera? :-P
Not yet.
Along with the upvote, please accept some well envy from an American that wishes it was an option here.
Hi.
Thank you very much for these videos.
I have ordered a Plus exactly as yours, white paint, white steering wheel :-)
I have a question about the Lane Assist. Do you find it well functioning? Or do you miss the Travel Assist?
I am not a fan of both.
Very good 🙂
I have (U.S.) a ID4 Pro version reserved, is there any way you can look up the U.S spec’s to see if this IQ- Drive that comes standard on the Pro Model is the level two autonomous version.
Bonjour
Pour la marche arrière
pas besoin de se retourner il y
a la camera de recul :))
Vidéo très intéressante
Cordialement
Amazing to see you can actually do the full advertised range of 420kms in real life conditions!. Although I don’t understand why at the beginning of the video, the full charge shows only 297kms... how come this doesn’t show you more than that? That is a huge difference compare to the actual range... any idea?
It's not a static display. The range is always recalculated based on the last consumption and trips.
His initial trip after picking it up was driven at a high speed.
Actually it's the same with other VAG EV. Initially it gives range based on previous driving style, elevation changes (and temperature?), but changes to more real range once you drive it
12:14 My Taycan is also warning empty battery too early, about 20% SoC.
Really. Way too early. congrats on the car!
@@BatteryLife Yes, particularly considering, how unbelievable accurate range calculation is. Should be similar on your ID.3...
Wish you did a 100km/u test. This is the most common high speed (and also max speed) here in the Netherlands. In Germany it's still 130 haha.... (and they want to stop the unlimited speed autobahns right? Limit them to 130 all...) Anyway curious for your future video's on the ID3.
100 km/h because everyone is driving with their caravan, right? ;-)
You don't happen to know the length of the warranty on the drivetrain, do you? I know the battery is 8 years, so I was just wondering.
I would have used the actual distance as per google maps instead of the one in the odometer, cars tend to show shorter distances than the actual ones, not by much, but every km counts.
That is true. I forgot to put that in the video. Google maps said 6 km more. So I drove 427km.
As part of First Movers Club, will you ask for more EV data in display, like charge speed in kW, agreement between displays for % SoC, etc.? Thanks for video. Nice car.
Would you do a video on just the lane assist function of the car, what level of autonomy comes with the ID3?
Mine has only lane assist. Just a safety function. The first edition max has travel assist. Which is self driving.
Battery Life Was meinst Du mit volle Trips?
Is the IQ.Drive there autopilot version for level two autonomy?
Iq drive does not excist. There is an iq light, id light, id Eye
Do 140 or 150 km/h test.
I'll do a top speed test.
Great quality video Chris, can't wait to see the charging video, question, the re-charge card from VW is that operated by Kiwhi pass?
We charge is VWs own thing. I think!
Great Video, thanks! Really great range.
Which track ist it? (16:42)

how is the handling? its a loooong wheelbase with big wheels, like upper class saloon of 90's, actually +3 cm to lets say Renault Safrane!! and its rear wheeel drive, must be super in straight line on road!!! :) and that front wheel lock, how is exiting parking spots and backing up? must be super manouverable with that wheels turned and going backward!
Handling is awesome. Brakes need good pressure when you drive sporty.
Hi there can you show the media controls? Do you get Spotify, Audible, podcasts etc?
Media is still work in progress.
Hey
What model is it (batteri) ? Andreas
58 kWh, it's in the title 🤷♂️
Cooles videos.
Wow, I just discovered #BjornNyland #2 :D Anyway Will you be publishing the charging session as well so we can see the charging curve?
@Battery Life what is the size of your battery?
58 kWh
@@BatteryLife great, that I ordered too. Next spring will be electric 😁
At what speed you think the distance can be around 400km? 100km/h.. 105 km/h?
97 km/h maybe
@@BatteryLife ok. can be a good speed.Thanks.
I guess the 1000 km on autobahn will be an interesting twist, same day as Teslabjørn is doing the test in Norway. But I hope you give some recognition to the original tester ;)
He is doing it today. Me tomorrow, due to less traffic.
Now you're really famous...Insideevs has this video in their 'More about Volkswagen ID.3 section': insideevs.com/news/445080/volkswagen-id3-first-deliveries-uk/ well two of your videos and full articles as well with you and no Bjorn anywhere...awesome man!! :)
Very good range given the price range
Is the ID3 equiped with a wireless charger for the smart phone? Does it have Bluethoot apple car play and Android Auto?
Thanks.
What will uou do after performing all range, charging and speed tests?
Tuesday comparing to Model 3 SR+
can the driver display be modified?
It is in the video ;)
Chris you forgot Official in your title
Can you se the procent of the expected soc when you put a destination in the navigation system?.
Nope, not yet. It doesn't plan chargers as well. Next update.
Battery Life ok tnx for info and great videos. I might order the ID.4. 👍🏻🚗🔋 or škoda Enyaq. Which one is the best you think. Both is in the MEB plattform
Nice car. Tapping that screen, every few seconds! I would just like to drive as in my golf, without distracting screens to worry about. I guess when you get used to it you'll not bother with kw kw/h distance gone, or range as people will use the most common ones on the route used normally, as in a petrol car, and by the charger linked to it as in the vauxhall corsa e.
9:36 🤘🤘
Metal!
what would have been the effect if you had driven the test in B?
Victor - Netherlands
It uses regen to slow down after overtaking. It is more efficient to coast the speed down.
Great vid, can you do an acceleration vid like you did with eGolf?
Be interested to see how much quicker it is 0 - 160 km/h
Kona is 18 sec 0 - 160 km/h
Wonder is ID3 quicker
I will do that.
@@BatteryLife
Awesome ;-)
Do you have safe distance from another car on the Id: 3?
which of the 3 different modules is this? whats the wltp?
Watch video ;) 420km wltp
@@BatteryLife i did, but totally missed the part where u said it. Nice, which one of the 3 modules is the most bang for the buck in your opinion? I kinda have a hard time seeing why i would buy the biggest model when Tesla M3 isn't much more expensive... :/
What version of Id.3 do you have?
