I'm no Craig Hutchinson fan however he was 100% correct about his call on Nth Melbourne.
He also said richmond would win one which they did a couple years later and said the pies were closert to a flag than north which again they played in 2 prelims and a gf since and north haven't.
I mean they were only a few goals away from a Grand Final in 2015 and were beating West Coast for most of that game, to say they weren’t close is outrageous.
It’s the same as saying teams like Collingwood right now aren’t playing to win the flag and only to win a final or 2. They won’t win a flag with their current team but it’s silly to suggest they aren’t even trying.

Gary Lyon is the worst "journalist" in the AFL. Hasn't made a correct call yet. Said that Hawthorn were in turmoil and that Alastair Clarkson had lost the confidence of the players when Hodge took over from Mitchell as captain. Then Hawthorn won 3 in a row. 😂😂😂

It’s hurts, as a Kangas fan, watching back what Hutchy was saying about the club, who were 9-0 off the back of 2 preliminary finals!! He could not have been anymore correct
Yep, unfortunately some poor decisions that were made not too long after that clip came out (2015 I think) in hindsight set the club back years. I personally think it started with that big culling of the list around 2016-17. Particularly Boomer that one hurt the most I think, even in his final game he still played well. I know the whole 'one more year' thing gets thrown around a lot, but if anyone could have gone another year or two it was him. It would have been better to have had some of those vets around to start the rebuild then have them retire graciously, but they let it be mostly kids and that I think decimated the culture.
Then of course they brought in two coaches (Shaw & Noble) who really were not up to the job. I also think the president & CEO weren't up to it, Ben Amarfio (who was the boss of MMM who James Brayshaw obviously works for which is interesting) might have been a good radio boss but I don't think he was up to being a footy CEO. I personally wish Sonia Hood had brought Peter Jackson in, but I could understand him not wanting to do it.
And finally, the Horne-Francis fiasco. I personally think he probably always wanted to stay in SA, so it's impossible to say whether or not he would have gone back eventually. But the club also handled it terribly, they only just got 'the next Wayne Carey' in the door and they more or less pushed him out.
I hope you guys are on a better path under Clarko.

But then Dennis came outta no where (kinda like a librarian, IYKYK) and over took Bruce as the number 1. It was beautiful tbh. Today its ave af.

Hutch was trying to say to Garry that North Melbourne, as a minimum performance benchmark, were trying to win one final.
He wasn’t saying that they didn’t want to do try and do better than that. It’s not like he was expecting North to get back on the Bus to Arden Street after first week of finals and pull a sickie for the second finals match.
Every club is going to harp on about how they want to win the flag, but the reality is some teams are obviously closer to that than others. I don’t see any issue with what Hutchy was saying.
I think Garry was overreacting big time and he always seems to get overly-sensitive and emotionally invested in the Kangaroos for some weird reason.
Hutchy was ultimately right anyway about North (as others have pointed out) as most of the 30+ players called time on their career at the end of the same season. A lot of their younger players were also highly under-developed and were too accustomed to playing VFL footy to be able to cope playing at AFL level.
