    Jacko was so far from the usual guest on Open Mike. He rocks up and brings up a beef from 20 years ago. It was a famous episode, Mike said it was his most memorable.

    Jacko was an enormously talented footballer that could of dominated the league but couldn't control his emotions. Opposition players and coaches took advantage of that.

      Talented player physically, not mentally. Some of the stupid ridiculous things Mark did on field did not belong in the VFL.
      It was an official league, not a bloody circus like womens football.

      Dees fan here and I totally agree. Schwartz was in deep shit with his gambling problem and certainly seemed to be pulling others down with him. Sam called this out and Schwartz just bagged out Sam to deflect any criticism.

    Met Stephen Quartermain as a kid, and as nice a guy as you’ll meet. Really remember great he was. Love Dunstall as well, and seems all is good between them now.

      Jacko is a funny chap and he even admitted that the talks things up to make footy more exciting.
      I know Mike and people calling him a clown, please. The AFL/VFL media have to meet certain guidelines where Jacko didn't have the same boundaries as a player.
      Jacko always went over the top and made a name for himself. This was his way of going through his football career. He knocked 3 people out, so what? That doesn't make him a great player, it just puts the focus on him.
      He was a show pony which people either loved or hated. I found him entertaining.

      @@SuperGravey Jacko was a thief who stole from his employers by kicking footies over the fence during training for his brother to sell somewhere. If he was an accountant or book-keeper diddling the books people wouldn’t be so forgiving, but because he was a footballer somehow he gets a pass.

      By entertainer, I take it you mean thug. If watching men thump each other is what you enjoy, then you need to watch boxing. The kind of thuggery that Jacko (and his ilk) engaged in was (at best) cheating. It certainly wasn't footy. And don't say it was all part of the game because it ruined football and would have ended it as a sport if it hadn't have been stamped out. Parents were simply steering kids away from playing it out of fear of them being assaulted.

      I attended those matches at Kardinia Park back in the 80’s and Jacko was the main reason the crowds would come. Brought in a lot of coin for the clubs he played for. Characters like him, Capper and Akermanis bring life and fun to footy. AFL ‘the company’ have taken that from us. No, we don’t need the violence, but we need the spirit, laughter and fun they brought. My friends and I still use his lines ‘false alarmers’ and ‘toilet trained’ in general conversation today. The man still gives his time and efforts to the community clubs and kids for the love of Aussie Rules. Epic interview.

She's a journo whereas Billy is a commentator there's a difference, Bill has to be somewhat dumb and entertaining to make his scthik work especially on shows like the footy show was. Journos aren't really known for being entertaining.

    Met Mark Jackson a couple of times, and as nice a guy as you’ll meet. Sure many will say the same. But certainly one of those guys, who will get fired up if he thinks you’ve wronged him. People who’ve only seen this interview would be surprised at how friendly and polite he is if you met him on the street.

      Hawthorne had the highest amount of free kicks of any team in the 80's by a wide margin, they also had it during their three peat in the 2010's. Free kick Hawthorn has been a lingering smell around that club for 40 years that has only now just started to clear up.

      Firstly what was Jacko spot on about????? He was spewing crap.
      Sheahan was the most successful and influential Australian football journalist for decades. He is a member of the Australian Media Hall of Fame. Has won all AFL media awards, Mike is highly respected in the AFL world as well as the media.
      Other than yourself, Mark Jackson has no respect from anyone, in any world. He has burnt all bridges.

      BTW The media that employs most of the journalists, funds the AFL, promotes it, is the vessel for huge advertising dollars.
      AFL declared it has zero need for federal or state government cash funding, which has been Underwritten by the broadcast deal.
      Provide unlimited 24/7 access to AFL related programming.
      Lastly AFL journalists have implemented systems that have turned the AFL into the most data rich sport in the world.

      I'm no fan of Mike's either, but for Rex to give him shit for exploiting him on OM when he admitted he did wrong was ridiculous. It's on Sam's podcast if you havn't heard it.
      Sam was bang on about the cheating as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if all that other stuff was true too. Think it came out officially about a year after that.

      ​@@rtmachine2019My take is that it is Channel 7's call who they hire.
      Also, Carey had been found with the bag of "crushed pain pills" at Crown, so they stood him down until it was sorted out. Daisy had nothing to do with Carey being replaced.
