Can’t see how is this relevant to COVID-19 deaths! What really causing the huge number of casualties is that it’s really difficult to diagnose as both incubation period and symptoms vary from one person to another, otherwise it’s not very different than any other microbic infection. How is this related to sedentarism and excessive consumption of refined carbohydrates?
It's a video of inconsistencies. 1) it's not a bad model he's got up on the blackboard, and highlights with his "willful divide" that a great deal of this morbidity is down to us and our choices. Receive one tick for representing health in a sensible way. 2) however, as a counter to 1) above, he's saying nothing new, or as others have said, he's stating the obvious. Remove one tick for saying what public health officials have said for decades. 3) Glassman is arguably doing his bit to improve health, and by extension primary prevention. Receive one tick for acting in the interests of society. 4) in counter to 3) above, ANY regimen of regular exercise and healthy diet will reduce your comorbidity risk. Are some more effective than others? Maybe - go off to Reddit to argue about it. In any case, remove one tick for plugging your particular flavour of healthy living as the "fix". 5) this presentation is given by a guy who just doesn't look in shape. This is actually an echo of the larger paradox you get in CF, in that the founder - the guy who talks about all the benefits of CF, about "reaching your genetic potential" etc - looks like he doesn't practice what he preaches. Yes ok, he doesn't look obese or anything and his bloods may be just fine (maybe), but take any CF box owner/ operator and you'll get a better human specimen than Glassman. There's the old chestnut that sometimes the best coach is the roundbellied old guy who's been there and done that and knows his stuff, but that's just an anecdote. Fitness is FULL of people who will help you work around physical limitations, so whatever injuries or physical difficulties Glassman is said to have are likely not an impediment to participating in his own fitness philosophy - one that notably constantly talks about being highly scalable. Remove one tick for soapboxing about health from a guy who is clearly intelligent but doesn't look like he takes his own medicine.
Do you know Glassman’s backstory? He has a major injury from his gymnastics career as well as contracting polio when he was younger. His personal fitness has nothing to do with the effectiveness of CrossFit or his genius as a trainer.
@@spencergsmith By "genius" do you mean "Hey let's train people at the border between the glycolytic energy pathway and the aerobic pathway, and condition the body's reaction to lactic buildup" as though S&C hadn't been doing it for years (and then sledge established exercise science}? Or perhaps "Hey let's turn the traditional notion of training volume on its head by making it load x distance x reps and say iT's nEwToNIan pHYsics, man"? Look, CF did come along after an extended period of glorification of Venice Beach hypertrophy ideals, and it was a necessary and refreshing change. But Glassman & CF didn't invent exercise or anything. We should be glad they brought functional back onto the stage, but like many things that get popular quickly, it was a repackaging of what already existed, with a couple of bits of new flair added (compound phosphogenic pathway exercises to infinity for example). And don't get me started about how the whole licensing model and Reebok thing changed it for the worse until the smarter coaches took it back. If you're going to use "genius" about Glassman, let it refer to the amazing repackaging, branding and community building.
@@Matt_but_call_me_Bob it's interesting how you didn't even address my point, which was that Glassman's personal fitness has nothing to do with the effectiveness of his program or his ability to train others. Clearly you didn't actually know the reason behind all of that, which was my primary point. But since you focused on my comment about him, notice I said "his genius as a trainer" which if you've ever watched any of his other videos, you can clearly see he has a wealth of knowledge on the subject. Also, he has created arguably the most successful fitness business in the world, and I don't just mean financially successful, I'm talking success in terms of positive impact on the world. CrossFit has saved the lives of tens if not hundreds of thousands of people in the past 20 years. He didn't do this by inventing anything, nor has he ever claimed to, but what he did was bring together the best ideas and methods into one cohesive program that not only works effectively, but also co-exists beautifully. "But Glassman & CF didn't invent exercise or anything." Neither Glassman nor anyone else has claimed that they did, but if you actually read, watched, and researched, you would see that it's a lot more than "repackaging... with a couple of bits of flair added." And you may mock it, but redefining fitness as work capacity across broad time and modal domains (the first scientifically rigorous definition) IS physics. Shifting people's mindsets away from traditional training (body part splits and segmented strength & conditioning sessions) and into measurable and observable work for time or load WAS genius, and clearly it's something no one else did before him, and many people have tried to imitate since he came along, but none have done it with the same intricate thought behind it. But go on, continue to be salty because you aren't as successful and will never contribute as much to the fitness landscape as Glassman.
@@eriklarson9137 1) That is completely irrelevant to the point of this discussion. 2) You have ZERO proof that he did anything sexually inappropriate, only unconfirmed accusations, which is commonplace for people who have become wealthy and famous. 3) None of this affects his genius or the positive impact CrossFit has had around the world over the last 25 years.
As soon as you see someone claim Ferguson predicted 500,000 deaths and was wrong, you can ignore the rest of what they're saying. The Imperial College paper predicted fatality rates under different scenarios, and the 500k number came from the no social distancing scenario. The real number ended up being lower because Ferguson was listened to, not because he was wrong.
@Eran Riblo Using a simulation to model a stochastic process is completely normal, which is why you run it multiple times and take an average. His code is public, and he wasn't what you claim. I'm curious where you got this completely wrong idea from.
I agree diet and exercise arenecessary for good health and a strong immune system; however in saying that experts are reporting covid19’deaths across all age groups and fitness levels whether your healthy or not this illness does not discriminate.
Statistically unhealthy people are being hit much harder. While its true that everyone can get this virus unhealthy people are the ones dying off in droves while healthy people, while not immune, are mostly recovering. Can a healthy person get seriously ill or die; absolutely but the empirical data suggest that they are much less likely to suffer serious consequences from this virus compared to unhealthy people.
Actual rate in Germany... Most of the deaths are on your left side, dieing with an average of 80.46y compared to 80.54 in case w/o corona. So we are talking about possible 1500 persons of an age of 80.5 extendig their lives with one month putting 84,000,000 people in jail (stay at home).
Of course being unfit, having a weak lung capacity and having underlying illnesses will affect the death rate with covid-19 (on average). But please, this is not the time to capitalise on that and to downplay the crisis.
Tim Gerber Agreed. He’s just trying to profit from this mess. In reality, moderate to low exercise is probably better during these times as you don’t want to suppress your immune system from training hard. This video is a joke. He’s a businessman, not a doctor.
I have been doing CrossFit for over 10 years and even have a CF-L1. I strongly dislike how Glassman is oversimplifying the COVID-19 pandemic. I also don't like how many people just blindly follow him and other prominent CrossFit personalities without doing their own research. I agree CrossFit (or any other form of exercise) helps with overall physical well-being, but it is NOT the "sure-fire" cure of chronic disease that Glassman boasts that it is.
I didn't know who this guy was until his controversial tweet, then I checked out his "science" tweeting. I see the schtick now - it's the Jordan Peterson method. Repackage obvious truths as something you discovered, amass devoted followers who you've hoodwinked into thinking these thoughts are yours, then sprinkle in your patent nonsense along with those truths that advance your financial interests. Nice work.
He had childhood polio and a very bad gymnastics injury in college. Do you also criticize people in wheelchairs and braces? I bet you get a real kick out of seeing amputees.
I have been listening to Coach Glassman for over a decade now. He has been saying this exact lecture for years and years. If you pull up any one of his discussions, you will find that he is very knowledgeable on fitness, health, wellness and is more than qualified to speak with authority on this subject.
Thank you. That was already some of my thinking, and you had more of the data to prove it, plus you the way you explained was pretty neat. Short + concise. If anyone is offended then they are not being sensible or maybe they should talk to China about protecting the big bucket.
Interesting hypothesis however Otherwise healthy and young people are dying from this. It would be nice to assume that if you don’t have any underlying health problems you will be fine, but the deaths from this are showing that is not the case. Good luck.
88% of Americans have metabolic syndrome: insulin resistance, diabetes, pre-diabetes, obesity, heart disease, hypertension, etc. The younger generation has even worse metabolic health, as compared to the general population. Insulin resistance and pre-diabetes, sometimes without any obesity or outward signs, can worsen for decades prior to diagnosis as diabetes or some other metabolic disease.
Some doctors have noted that nearly all their COVID-19 patients are either diabetic or pre-diabetic. Dr. Stephen Smith said that in 23 confirmed cases in his hospital, 13 were diabetic, 9 was diabetic, and 1 was unknown. ua-cam.com/video/F6Cnlt_Iv7c/v-deo.html
There are always outliers, but the large percentage are the unhealthy that are getting it and not surviving. A basic statistics course would be a good idea for you.

I've been curious as to why the more vulnerable people dont just stay inside. let everyone else keep on so the country doesnt fall apart. that is if its true it doesnt affect them🤷♂️
LOL - Constant Variance does not equal "randomly programmed"
Travis Jones the only thing that I regret about my post is calling Glassman a good businessman. He killed the brand with that tasteless tweet.
My experience is anecdotal but I haven’t seen many periodised CrossFit programmes. Most boxes set random WODs with no real physiological objective in mind. It’s fun but after your noob gains run out, you’ll hit a plateau really fast
@@superboy90345I’ve been doing CONSTANTLY VARIED CrossFit for over a decade, and my gains are still coming… despite having stalled on traditional periodization and progressive overload years before.
Also, who said periodization is the only way to intelligently program? Just because you don’t understand or see the whole picture when you look at ONE workout does NOT mean it is random.
This was my guess before everyone took it seriously.

Which bucket does cancer belong in ?
Can’t see how is this relevant to COVID-19 deaths! What really causing the huge number of casualties is that it’s really difficult to diagnose as both incubation period and symptoms vary from one person to another, otherwise it’s not very different than any other microbic infection. How is this related to sedentarism and excessive consumption of refined carbohydrates?
Wow, the answer to you question is quit obvious when you consider the type of people who are not surviving it.
Yes, elderly and those with weak immune system, not obese 🤷🏽♂️
@@meelad88 might want to check those stats now…
Mr Greg! is the ONLY Genius MAN to LISTEN TO! PERIOD.
If he were that smart he'd take his own advice and get rid of that gut.
You know this time, I'm not gonna read the comments...at all.
"But Glassman & CF didn't invent exercise or anything." Neither Glassman nor anyone else has claimed that they did, but if you actually read, watched, and researched, you would see that it's a lot more than "repackaging... with a couple of bits of flair added."
And you may mock it, but redefining fitness as work capacity across broad time and modal domains (the first scientifically rigorous definition) IS physics.
@@spencergsmith He was a great man when it came to sexual conduct in the work place. Right?
What about now?
I agree diet and exercise arenecessary for good health and a strong immune system; however in saying that experts are reporting covid19’deaths across all age groups and fitness levels whether your healthy or not this illness does not discriminate.
Statistically unhealthy people are being hit much harder. While its true that everyone can get this virus unhealthy people are the ones dying off in droves while healthy people, while not immune, are mostly recovering. Can a healthy person get seriously ill or die; absolutely but the empirical data suggest that they are much less likely to suffer serious consequences from this virus compared to unhealthy people.
Now you know it was older people and obese people that were mostly affected. Healthy people overwhelmingly have no issue with a little covid.
Why do people dislike greg glassman, genuinely asking?
Is this the video that started pissing people off? I can’t tell for sure.
I have been doing CrossFit for over 10 years and even have a CF-L1. I strongly dislike how Glassman is oversimplifying the COVID-19 pandemic. I also don't like how many people just blindly follow him and other prominent CrossFit personalities without doing their own research. I agree CrossFit (or any other form of exercise) helps with overall physical well-being, but it is NOT the "sure-fire" cure of chronic disease that Glassman boasts that it is.
phillychick Uh.....
Glassman is a business man - where there is crisis there is opportunity.....

Coach can draw! Serious.
Nice work.
Nonsense!!!
There is NO single scientific or medical evidence in his speech.
Tell me covid is acute or chronic diseases
That dude can hardly walk...overrating with CrossFit again, huh?
He had childhood polio and a very bad gymnastics injury in college. Do you also criticize people in wheelchairs and braces? I bet you get a real kick out of seeing amputees.

Listen to someone who is actually qualified
I have been listening to Coach Glassman for over a decade now. He has been saying this exact lecture for years and years. If you pull up any one of his discussions, you will find that he is very knowledgeable on fitness, health, wellness and is more than qualified to speak with authority on this subject.
You're the type of person who would buy magic beans from someone just because that person has been selling them for a while.
Mike And you are a Flat Earther who can’t face facts.
Loving the R.E.D. Hat.
So Chris Spealer had Covid. Are u saying he is unhealthy?.
Getting COVID doesn’t prove your health. Getting through COVID shows health. Duh.

There are always outliers, but the large percentage are the unhealthy that are getting it and not surviving. A basic statistics course would be a good idea for you.
Wolf Hunter I didn’t realize Chris Spealer was so unhealthy. He had covid. Poor obese guy
👍
Who tf is this clown?
let's see your videos?
He's like a rambling David Miscavidge. Why is he trying to give any advice on this subject when he is clearly not educated in any part of it. He must have some sort of god complex.
Now that you've taught the truth about the failures of epidemiology and its garbage use of imaginary statistics, how about teaching your boxs how to teach proper lifting form? Don't teach all of them though. Id miss out on all my favorite gym fails videos.

It would be better if you told your audience to stay away from what puts us at risk of disease in the first place. Eating animals is the root of the problem, doesnt matter if it's a wet market or not. Stop promoting animal products, we dont need them.
Veggies to survive, meat to thrive.
What’s with the pot belly?? How could I listen to this staring at some unhealthy old guy
Pot belly? What do you have to offer to society? Have anything proactive to say? He's trying to educate, and he's not wrong. Got a pic Natalie? Lets see ya!
you can listen and not look at the video.. audio alone works and its valuable information! BE KIND
Well, Coach Bill Belichick Isn't built like a football player anymore, but he KNOWS the game better than most and is an effective/proven leader. What's our point, again? Lemme guess...fitness is ALL about the aesthetics for you. You are missing the point entirely. Dig deeper
Hi Natalie, Coach Glassman was involved in a debilitating gymnastics accident in his youth that has left him with a permanently destroyed pelvis which limits his ability to move and his physique is a result of this injury. Before then, he was a very fit gymnast from what I have heard.
you embarrass yourself
Man.... Greg does not look healthy. Too many animal products.
