You know what’s even worse? They started patching methods for modding on Xbox before this. So this was not only in the works for awhile, but they are actively trying to stop players from getting around it. It’s absolutely disgusting and I think notch should pull a George Lucas and try to buy his creation back

    • @zacvh
      @zacvh 7 місяців тому +31

I mean Minecraft is probably worth more as an actual ip now than when notch sold it so unless he’s some sort of investing genius I feel like he can’t buy it back. But Star Wars actually was losing money I’m pretty sure so it makes more sense for George Lucas to have the ability to buy it back even though I doubt that will ever happen either. But stuff like this where Microsoft is adding a new thing for them to monetize off of Minecraft does make it more valuable from the business perspective cuz they aren’t going to get that much from more game sales but they have a massive install base now they can push out micro transactions to

    • @stargazer-elite

Notch doesn’t care about Minecraft he thought, and hoped it would just be a small little indie game but ever since a grew passed that he didn’t really care for it also, why are people idolizing notch all of a sudden? He has said some questionable things at the very least.

Thank you for giving my Add-Ons a try! Whether people agree with Add-Ons being free or monetized is certainly up for discussion but make no mistake, players have been annoyed with existing Marketplace and asking for this since the launch of the Marketplace so I'm glad Mojang has finally given me the opportunity to provide that to people who want it while also allowing me to keep making a living doing it.

The fact that they were gatekeeping addons to a specific world was insane to begin with. This is a step in the right direction for sure and I don’t mind paying for these things as long as it’s properly handled by Mojang and the content is not plagiarized and shovelware itself.
However I doubt anything will come with it as the Marketplace itself is a disaster. I’m sure it’ll become just as bad as the “one world only” Addons due to the insane copy and paste that has been done already.
I also don’t get why they are gatekeeping the addons outside of the game itself either. I’m still upset that I have to use a realm and PC/Pocket Addition in order to get ANYTHING outside of the MP. Not to mention the willingness to get things on the MP as a modder depends on many things and is dampened due to the poor implementation of Marketplace and Copyright being so fickle in MP.

Also, this is bad for the community as well. it hurts the community because mods that are made when $ involved are usually ones made without passion or at least are copy and pasted. You CANNOT tell me you are okay with the state of the Marketplace, look at it, that thing is filled with shovelware.
I don’t mind paying for mods in the slightest, I think modders need payment too but when you get down to how MP is and how badly it operates you cannot overlook the bad side of the pay for mods motto.
Mojang is also gatekeeping free addons. They created a system that doesnt allow just anyone to post on all platforms. Further more, they also don’t allow the platforms, especially platforms like PlayStation or Switch, to get addons from other sources. In order to get other mods on anything you have to own Realms and BUY THE GAME AGAIN on PC or Mobile. The ONLY other option is to get mods from the MP which already dictates whether or not modders can post their products. This in itself hurts the modders as they cannot freely post what they want nor be held responsible for the bad product as there is so much wrong with MP already. The copyright, the poor handling of certain situations and much more is so scummy and cannot be overlooked.
This is a step in the right direction, there just needs to be a medium between the two and Mojang needs to step up if they really want creativity to prosper on their Marketplace because as it stands, it’s shovelware and nothing more.

I mean, when there's already countless maps being sold where the whole point is modded survival but you're always just stuck using the mods in that one map, this is honestly just an upgrade to what we already have. It seems silly to be mad at them selling the ability to add custom furniture and weapons to your world when they were already selling you the ability to have custom furniture and weapons, but only in one single isolated world where you just sit there and go "... Yep, that's a couch... Now what?" I mean, you can argue that these kinds of maps shouldn't even exist and the map specific add-ons should be used more for things like the Sonic map, but when these kinds of maps already exist, this new add-on feature is just giving already paying customers the value they were expecting to get from their weapons++ add-on instead of disappointing them with an isolated modded world with nothing to do in it

People are quick to blame the companies creating the storefront, but paid mods have existed before this, and will continue to. I don’t mind, as people who put as much work into these things as they do should get some sort of compensation, and the fact that people are using this shows that charging for mods is something they’re okay with. It’s nice to have free mods, and they will continue to exist after this, but people love pretending like things costing money is Microsoft’s fault, even though the people who actually make the content have no problem with it. Of course, some of those people are trying to make a quick buck, but I still think that people who put in the effort deserve some kind of compensation.
That being said, I don’t like how so much of Bedrock edition has been Microsoft trying to find ways to profit off of it. I look at the Java edition April Fool’s snapshots and see so much passion and creativity on display, because when the devs get to do what they want they can do a lot of cool stuff with this game. Meanwhile, Bedrock edition doesn’t even have custom model data. I rely on custom model data so much in my server that the idea of not having it is ridiculous. I had always thought that Bedrock would have the most tools for making custom content, as there is a major profit incentive from Microsoft to make those tools as robust as possible, but it’s simply not the case. It remains to be seen what the general economy of addons will be (As in, how much people charge for them and how much are in them) I could imagine a lot of people who already made addons will just re-release them on the official store. Though hopefully mods that were previously free stay free after moving to this store. I remember that NOT happening with Skyrim mods and that became a whole controversy

My view without watching the video yet.
If any creator wants to charge for their work, they should be able to.
People who are not happy with the purchase feeling they didn’t get what they expected or just dont want it, should be able to refund within a certain time and lose access to it.
The ability to install add ons through alternate means should not be blocked.
Unfortunately, there will be copycats/scams/etc. And there's only so much that human or even automated moderation can do and such systems will ALWAYS have some flaw so trying to report any instance of a "bad mod" wont be so successful, the only generally good system is through something comunity driven.
Put simply, this shouldn't be seen on its own as a bad thing, the way its handled and the way we players, creators, the scammers, and Microsoft/Mojang treat this will all determine the way this is handled.

There probably will be problems with things getting repetitive, stealing, and so on, but I wouldn't say that's a reason to drop the idea. We can ask if Mojang should be getting a cut of the profits, but it's their marketplace and intellectual property, so idk.

Definitely understand the issues with paid add ons, but I will selfishly say that these add ons are a game changer for my wife and I. I usually play modded Java, but when we play together, she plays on switch so we play a vanilla bedrock world together. Adding in the free pets and furniture add on revitalized our world.

Here's the irony here, Mojang says Mod makers no longer can make money off of their mods, now they're selling mods... What the actual fu-

      That's completely different.
      Mods are not Add-Ons.
Mods are a Modification to the Game, while Add-Ons are Additions to the Game.
They sound and are pretty much functionally similar, but there is a difference.
Add-On makers will be able to legally sell them and Mojang just gets a percentage.
Mojang does not make the Add-Ons, they just curate them.

unless they say its official contnet, it don't matter.... its always custom made stuff by the community unless mojang says its official and will be polished and made sure will work on any patches.
the fact that they disable achievments its a hint that mojant don't consider then official content, just like the new mods for skyrim disable achievments but the creation club don't and was considered official in the anniversary release, so theres a huge difference, notice how the sofa icons don't match the artstyle of minecraft it feels bad and cheap
this is no different than the stuff already sold there, you don't need then they are not official its just a way to help you modders to get money if you so wish to get a content nothing else.
why do people even care about this? its not like this is mandatory its not official content of the game, its not like a dlc or expansion pack, its just a extra addon by the community.

This is not okay. Remember when Notch made fun of ingame add on purchases with that one april fools day update? Well Jeb has his little hands in the cookie jar and he took all the cookies. Now he is looking for CUPCAKES.
If you know what i mean.
