My English great grandfather started out as a London Hansom Cab driver in 1854 and became a Hackney Master in what was in those days the high class suburb of Brixton. He and his three eldest sons were lost on the Lusitania, torpedoed in 1915. Oddly , my Scottish great grandfather, Murdo MacLeod, was also a horse-drawn cab driver in Inverness during the same period.
How does Nigel Havers to do everything so wonderful??? I've been following him since Chariots of Fire (or at least whatever it's available from himmin Argentina) and he is remarkable! When he does history is great because I do love history sooooo much!! Well done, Nigel!! 👏👏👏👏👏
My maternal great-grandfather, born in Suffolk, was a hackney cab driver/owner in Acton at the end of the 19th century. We have a photo of him in his cab, with his wife holding the horse's reins, outside their house

When I worked in Hyde Park, Nigel Havers would often walk through there - and never failed to greet us gardeners. Very polite gentleman.

Horses are true heroes
We would still be stone age people without them.
