Ive watched a bunch of reviews of these Pearl Decade Maple kits and from what I've heard in all of them they sound pretty good even with stock heads. I'm thinking about buying the version with a 24 inch kick as a cheap back up kit for gigging when ever we actually get to do that again.
Got the 22in model in yellow. As i wait for the new drumheads to arrive (Evans ec2 and emad2), the stock UT heads sound great. I swear you'd have to do something completely wrong to ruin it's sound.
Nice kit for gigging. Will sound good on stage, behind electric guitars and keyboards. You also don’t have to worry about your expensive drums being damaged. Good package and value for money. Heads are so important and worth upgrading.
I was looking at the Mapex Mars for a half decent intermediate kit for doing the odd gig but I'm definitely splashing out just a little extra for the Decade now
@Jotunn I went and got a mapex Saturn. The natural maple burl finish was discontinued and they went on sale so I picked up a 5pc for like $1500. It’s a solid kit.
awesome ...got the info I wanted about the heads ...and how these "stock" heads relate to each drum...very informative ...Im actually in the process of purchasing a Pearl Decade Kit but in the Satin Blackburst ...other than that th kit sounds great...
Very fair review as usual. I looked into the Decade as I’ve played Pearl in the past, but those aesthetic things put me off enough to spend just a bit more quid on the DW design series. Those things are either much less noticeable or absent; it’s still a monster kit for the money and one you can take to clubs and not feel weary about moving around.
Check out the Tama Silverstar kits for your next review. I'm in love with them, such great tone and so easy to work with, and the price is very attractive for what you're getting
Is the bass drum girthy sounding? I had a Tama Superstar Hyperdrive and the toms were lovely but the bass drum really let the kit down so I got rid of it. I'm looking for a cheaper kit to gig with so that I'm not beating my Starclassic Maple up and this Pearl kit is one of the options I'm looking at. Thanks in advance for any advice.
hard choice. I have listened to a Stage Custom every week at my friends house, sounds pretty good. The Pearl seems pretty similar. Maybe go with the one you like the most, or maybe choose it depending on the type of wood.
I have a friend that works at drum center and he said the stage custom drums sound as good as some high end kits and is best value for money. But try to hear both and see what you think. In the end it’s only your opinion that matters.
I got the Decade as a gigging set., after hearing a set in the store Gave it a few tries tuning with the stock heads and did not get the sound I heard in the store, So i hanged the heads to coated emperrors. It really sunds great. The bass drum and the 2 floors, 14" and 16" sound extra ordinary with the right heads . After hearing this demontration I realize that after all you can get the Remo Ut to sound pretty good too. Another thing I didn't realize up to seenig this video , is that the snare is decent. I pretty much ignored it, still in the box. Offering the 830 hardware pack is probably unique for the Uk, quite frankly- it's mediocre and the set deserves better. Bottom line: although there are some excelent mid range kits today, this set sounds nothing like other sets in it's price range, .
I love my set. I got the 7 piece YELLOW and put Remo Pinstripes on mine and the snare I put a white reverse dot head on it. Tuning is a breeze with these.
Nolly uses a method to tune by actual pitches. The pitch relation between the top and bottom head is 3 semitones apart (bottom head 3 semitones above the top head), and then the note of the drum will be a half-step higher than the reso head note. So for example, a 16 inch floor tom Nolly would tune to say a D. The resonant head would then be tuned to a C#, and then the batter head to a A#.
Please do the newer updated tama Starclassics preferably the BB or Bubinga with the updated hardware like air cushioned floor legs, and the quick lock rack Tom and floor Tom leg brackets and their new mounting system.
I would take a tama silverstar or tama superstar hyperdrive or tama superstar classic over these. Got my silverstar for 500 as a backup kit to my main tama starclassic BB hyperdrive kit so I don’t gotta take the Starclassics out to every single show and the silver stars are great for the price and amazing hardware as you would come to expect from tama. Now I use the silverstars for most gigs and my workhorse kit and only bust out the Starclassics for bigger shows or the studio.
My "main" set is ab/b hyperdrive. too heavey and expensive to shlep for small gigs. looked into the silverstar as a gigging set. didn't like it as much as the decade + I couldn'd get my hands n a 14" floor The superstar hyper drive is great but not as versatile, enough fr different types of music. It has a dry and fast sound that is a delight to play on the music I really like, but sadly that's not what I usualy play.
I am loving my silverstar kit but nothing like my starclassic B.B. hyperdrives. But love both. Glad I bought the silverstar to bring anywhere and take the beating of the road and shows. Now I use the Starclassics for the big shows and studio and practice at home. It is awesome to have two different kits. Your main and then a back up gigging/practice kit you can keep at your bands practice spot so u don’t lug drums to practice everytime. My band plays shows with lots of drum shares being mandatory and will never use my Starclassics for drum share cause everything is dialed in perfectly with the quick lock memory locks and the mounting system I never touch it cause it’s positioned perfectly. I bring the silverstar for drum share and when I hear it in the audience point of view while the other band is using it I was blown away how good it sounded. Has so much attack and presence. I normally don’t like full Birch kits but the silverstar is amazing. Definitly wanna try the superstar classics next.
Can vouch for the Silverstar kit. Such an incredible sound for a low price it’s almost unfair. Hate that I have to sell mine after only having it for half a year
I've been leaning towards the Tama for months, but these seem to offer options like a fricken gong drum that I've been wanting, and they have more finishes I like.
@PaPa-D Totally true I have the same kit, but couldn't get the overtones away on the snare with lots of tuning configurations and even quite a bit of tape muffling. Replaced the heads no worries whatsoever just a bit of tape on the topside makes it sing beautifully even on the rimshots
I don't think anyone is going to buy a nice kit but keep the cheap heads on them. So why review the heads? They don't compliment the drums or show them in a flattering way. Put some good heads on the drums and let people hear the possibilities. Other than that I really enjoy your reviews.
Well, I think this is a way to truly evaluate a drumkit. If you buy a new drum that comes with poor factory heads, you should know that before to take new heads into the account
I just sessioned this kit with Evans heads. The difference in sound between them and the factory heads is undeniable. Pearl are not doing themselves any favours by installing inferior drum skins. Reviews only understate their true sound quality.
Hi there.. all products are demonstrated/ reviewed straight out of the box, as if we were a customer opening them up for the first time.. we appreciate sound can be approved with changing heads etc but we simply review them as we find them..
@@DrummersReview That’s interesting, but you’d think most drummers would change the heads after buying a kit. Personally, I’m looking to see how these drums sound with quality heads before I make a decision to buy them or not.
I like them but,, I,m not a big fan of deep bass drums. I like 14" depth.you are stuck with really low end punch .rock ok but say big band????? I,d play them!
Why? Nolly & Nick form the review conclusions together. One from a player's perspective, one from a producer / engineer perspective. That equals a more rounded view than you'll get anywhere else IMHO.
Keep it Simple because when he's talking about the drums, especially about how they sound, you are not seeing or hearing them. It should be done together. Just my opinion
Kudos to the drummer jamming on the Demo. The kit sounds great and the drummer was laying down some killer grooves.
I have watched so many of these reviews and I am in love with the tuning these guys use on everyone of the kits!!
I bought the kit based on your video; I still have it , added more pieces to it , still love it ! Thanks !
I'm in doubt about PEARL EXPORT ... which do you think is the best ????? please ...
@@tricolor6184 I think the decade maple is a decent step up from export , certainly from how they are made
That drummer could make a Pulse kit sound great.
Your channel is the only channel that displays high quality even at 360pixels also. Thankyou for the quality
Great video! I wish every Drumset review/preview was done exactly like this one!!

Seems like a great kit to gig on. Sounds good and isnt insanely expensive. I dig it.
value for money, Maple 6 ply are standar profesional drum set. Th cheap use poplar wood like Pearl RoadShow it just for very begginer.
That kick sounds beautiful. Well done
I love these drums! Pearl just has the best sounding kits
Just bought it in gold. Beautiful 🥰
Nice kit for gigging.
Will sound good on stage, behind electric guitars and keyboards.
You also don’t have to worry about your expensive drums being damaged.
Good package and value for money.

I’m trying to decide between the pearl decade maple and the mapex armory. Both seem pretty solid.
Both good choices!

Thanks for these honest reviews. Subscribed.
I love mine, black ice finish, sounds good.
Do the bass drum claws have rubber gaskets?
I have a 13/16/24 Faded Glory Decade. Hands down the best kit for the money!

Truly an amazing kit, & I couldn’t be happier with mine. Awesomeness
You should do a video on Tama Imperialstar and the Tama Superstar since the superstar is all maple. Want to know your opinion between the two.

Hopefully they send one over before the holiday season; Those are the two I'm deciding on as a first kit.
EverythingisFire get the Silverstar. It pains me that I’m selling mine. Put some clear or coated double ply heads on top. Thank me later

I'd like to hear it with Evans hydraulic heads on the toms and floor toms.
Would be great to know the microphones used and signal chain....
detailed & honest review
I would add or get a 16 inch floor tom
What do I wanna see? I wanna see Nolly go buck wild behind a kit!
For me it's worth the money, also, the option to buy extra drums is just incredible.
I played one of these at a guitar center and they sounded like heaven. My only problem w/ them is the floor toms only have 6 lugs and not 8.
Pearl Decade Maple or Yamaha Stage Custom Birch?
Thang Lian Cin same problem here but I’d go with pearl

Thang Lian Cin stage custom because the snare is better. This pearl decade snare does not sound good

Una Pregunta , la bateria es Made in China ?? consulto porque yo tengo una en Argentina Made in china y no suena igual.
how do you tune the toms to sound so nice?

I think the snare is a bit boinky. But nothing that a head change and perhaps a bit of muffling couldn't address.
Cheap pearl snares always sound horrid...
I use an old export snare as a side snare w/ a BFSD and it sounds good
Im sorry but this guy sounds so bored.😂
