The single best piece of wisdom given to me when I started this game was this game is a marathon, not a race. It is going to take a long time to do just about anything meaningful in the game. Don't rush it and take your time. Learn what you like to do and what you want to play this game for and make a long term plan for how you want to spend your time. Don't rush trying to learn everything at once because you WILL be overwhelmed. This game is insanely huge with a ton of things to learn about. It can be very rewarding for those willing to put the time and effort in, but if you charge headfirst into it I can almost guarantee it will turn you off

I'm pretty sure they mentioned why the lore/story of the game is pretty stale. They want to give players the ability to do what they want to do and progress as they go.

I started my ranger 2 days ago and I’ve gotten them to level 34 now I also have a mystic at level 29 now. So far I’m just really enjoying the combat and the in game visuals. So far so good

This was a really good video man, I kept searching for info on the game and just kept seeing swarms of posts/threads from insanely toxic people just ranting about the game. Frankly the "community" I've seen thus far has been highly toxic and kinda off-putting. This video made me feel better about maybe getting into it, its a gorgeous looking game, and I've got the rig to run it. I just wanna derp around killing monsters and have fun, I'm not really a PVP/competitive guy for MMOs.
Forum communities are usually trash. Best way to ask people who play the game is to log into the game and ask server chat. (Although that's how it starts I will say...)

Apologies for this short essay comment Anders! I feel like this is a question that as a gamer, you should be able to answer yourself from a variety of criteria you look for in a potential game. What kind of endgame are you looking for? Do you pvp? How do you want your progression determined? Through dailies that can be completed in an hour? Or through grinding whenever you want? Does it matter to you if you can customize your own character? Is an MMORPG even the right genre of game for you? Personally I look for pvp, character customization, and freedom to grind whenever I want. It's why if one day Justice Online or Moonlight Blade ever got translated to English, I'd still be playing BDO since those games are progression locked behind a set number of dailies (and even a playtime subscription in Justice's case). For those that say no, BDO isn't worth playing, you've got your own set of criteria and know what you want, that's good. For those interested in BDO, try to answer the above questions for yourself and see if that guides you.

you don't have to touch the enhancing system at all tho , you can literally just buy all your gear from the mp which is actually what most people recommend
You forgot to mention the "forced" pvp or rather "roflstomping" in grinding areas/having to compete for spots but other than that a good introduction for a short video.
Rarely happens to me early on and endgame grind spots I usually get duels not ganks, so if I lose switching to a different spot or server is not hard. Only time I got killed early on, actually DELETED, was a friend in a ghillie coming to say hello for a laugh lol
As Anders said, this is REALLY rare, as going "negative" (killing too many people forcefull) has very scary consequences for endgame players. But if it does, you will lose nothing yourself and there are always plenty of other "rotations" or channels to hop to. 99/100 people wont forcefully kill you if you accept a duel or even just reply to them and say you'll leave.
@@kirtism Most of the time I logon and try to grind somewhere (not endgame) there will be a "spot taken'" douche that comes long after I started my round. There is also the usual "gonna charge you from behind with horse" douche now and then. I don't grind long and usually tell em in chat. So 40% of the time I get roflstomped from behind. Dunno which servers you are on saying it's soooo "rare" and which version you play where loosing karma is "scary". You can kill a bunch of ppl before going red and even then, just switch chars and grind that karma off later on some mobs.
@@rhodan74 If you are getting deleted it means that person is generally losing upwards of 100k karma, that means that can kill you 3 times on a good day before going negative. I'm a guild master on na and have brought up a lot of new seasonal server guys, and not a single one of them has had your problem.

Hey, thanks for the video. I recently started playing BDO for the first time and this has helped me with a few things I haven't grasped yet. I currently been playing Ranger and Archer. Mostly because I thought Ranger would be a fast mid-range kiter while Archer would be more of just long-range artillery, but it turns out Archer kites better than Ranger.
You are one of the best UA-cam Channels that covers BDO< Ive been playing for a few months now, and after playing MMOS for about 20 years, this is by far my favorite MMO and game to date.
Wanted to chime in on the AA section at 03:40. I have had it on from the start and watched this video, turned it off and everything in the game looked like it had bright white lights coming off of it. I restarted and still the same thing. It was really annoying so I turned TAA back on and the game is crisp and crystal clear with no odd looking graphics, so Anti-aliasing definitely makes a difference in what the game looks like. I do have a 2080ti if anyone was wondering.
I am new to BDO and this video was very informative. Thank you for creating this video. I look forward to other BDO videos. I first started a Lahn and was having fun, last night I created an Archer. Currently only lvl 16, however, it's a fun class to play and if I am going to spend time on this game I want to enjoy the class I am playing. Looking forward to progressing further in the game with my Lahn and Archer and everything else I can learn about BDO to increase my enjoyment playing the game.

I recently tried it out. Its great for awhile but once you figure out everything you realize its just a complete repetitive grind. After 3 weeks i just couldnt bring myself to play it any longer.
Just bought this for ps4 a week ago and it hit me like: Hello fellow adventurer. Here you can pick a class. You have no further information about each class besides their weapon and cute anime faces. "Aight, I'll need a couple of minutes" *5 hours later* "Yeah I finally created my ninja kakashi" [ press □ to pick a name ] .__. *3 hours later* "So you are finally awake..." (skyrim reference?) Me and hundred of noobs: "WHAT TF IS THIS ALL OVER MY SCREEN? *Takes out microscope* Yeah, now I can read something." Trying out moves: Yeah nice but can I have like a NOT A GOOGLE MAPS THIRD PERSON VIEW?! *after finally finding out how to get them sweet 3rd person action view like in god of war* (hold R3 for 2 seconds, zoom in and out with right analog stick and move camera with arrow keys) Yeah action! *a wild sonic super flash passes by at mach 10 speed* Okay.
2 hours running around, quests be like: Ayy I got problem with my fcking bread or something please help our villag *SKIIIIP! ACCEPT!* Gps: Turn left and then proceed to walk for 135 km. Fine. L3. Memes for next 10 minutes. And when you take a closer look at this huge world of possibilities you gotta get a fricking job! I JUST CAME HOME FROM A JOB TO JOB? HELL YEAH
I always personally loved the kunoichi. I believe people say its good in both pve and pvp as well. But I'm not a pvp guy, but in pve I had a lot of fun with that class and got decently far without any help from anyone. But it is just a personal opinion. I plan to try Guardian next since I hear it's possibly the best class as of right now. I'm not a pro by any means, I'm still technically a newbie lol :)
Antialiasing actually has a big effect for me so I keep it on. For some people antialiasing actually has an affect so it's not always a good thing to turn it off. Just turn it off if the pixels are still not noticable with it being off.
Everyone should just go ahead and make all 20 classes. Level them up to around 20.They will build energy and receive contribution points. And you can also use them for extra storage space.
I think that was one of the Thursday clownfiesta nodes back when the main siege and merc guilds made planned fights for content. We always made it so we had two hours of war with no clear winner and only 2 guild left at the end for balanced fights. That one in particular may have been a stall out. If I remember right Demetori or someone else had a Carrack on the Demi River near Heidel bombarding pushes. Our flank had to deal with it, which was hilarious but killed a lot of time so instead of 2 guilds being left to fight the last half hour or so of the node war time, there were about 4 or so.

@@KnomadJ9 from someone that came from FF XIV, it takes a bit of time to adjust. FF14 is way more "user friendly" when you want "to do" something. But once you figure out how BDO works, you will be problem free. I decided to stay and play this game because of its combat and graphics. There's really no story as the game progresses, but that wasn't a negative point for me. I am just playing BDO because of its gameplay and graphics (I own a 3070 rtx).
I actually ended up downloading it. The game is definitely something you got to take time to figure out but i like it so far, the challenge, the combat system. I only made it to 15 so far but its going smooth 🤙

I've been a casual player for years. The game is enjoyable, the RNG enhancing blows but with some patience and some savings you can get everything you need from the marketplace. This is definitely a long haul game.
I've been thinking about coming back since Nova. looks like a class I'd have a lot of fun playing. But this game has never really been pve/solo play friendly, something most mmo's suffer from. but what bugs me about this game is that is has soo much pve/solo play potential it's just never realized. plus most of the life skills are all so afk intensive. why put in a mechanic that encourages you to go off and do something else like watch a movie or play another game while you wait for 3 hours of wood chopping to be done.

Hope you enjoy it! Ninja can be a monster in 1vX with Succession imo but I've only ever seen one Ninja on EU that I'd say was "monster" level and he had a lot of gear and technical skill. The downside to Ninja is that a lot of your moves are quick but unprotected or leave your back exposed so it takes a lot of practice to build Awareness to be able to know when to use certain skills and play well in a small scale 1vX scenario.
@@AndersGallar yea we’re stuck with awakening and after watching a couple of class videos I’ve made the decision to swap to Wizard for the PVE and NW scene which is what I’m interested in, I found myself not really playing the game anymore once I was a ninja because of all the work just to get 5k trash and etc but the pvp aspect was amazing. I also have a 1800 SP Sorc I can try but because succ just came out all the gear was bought up.
I got it for PS4 when it first released but it looks so bad and blurry I quit. I've tried to tweak the limited graphic settings but its unplayable. Anything Im not doing right?
i always wanted to come back again sadly im afraid of doing so since i already got some stuff done and everything is gonna be way too overwhelming to relearn without an option to just start from scratch :/ unless they added that ability
There is ZERO visual progression, no cool gear, and you do the same solo stuff the whole time no matter your lvl. There is no endgame to strive for and on high lvls you just get oneshot by high lvl and gear players. There is no co-op content except guild pvp. Not even lvling in a group isn't very useful. I feel ao lonely in the game.
I was on xbox an i HATED this game....i bought a great computer an i love the game now. I had a lv 60 warrior dandy an kazarka but i started a whole new character an i have to say this game is wayyyyyy better on PC hands down.

About the returning functionality: If you have more than 1500 hours played on the account and had another returning period before, you DO NOT get the returning bonus after 30+ days. It is once per family if the family has more than 1500h. I learned this yesterday from the GMs after waiting for 45 days to get the new returning daily log in. Needless to say I did not get anything.
Hmm, I'm going to say that is not right. GMs in this game are hit or miss. I have more than 10 thousand hours on my NA account and still got a Returning Reward after coming back recently. imgur.com/a/9vEiq16 Having already had the returning reward in the past as well. What the GM should have said is that you cannot claim the same Returning rewards from the same period. So if a Returning Reward was claimed in March for example and the Returning Reward end date is June and you come back again after 30+ days in say the month of May, you still wouldn't get Returning Rewards. If that was not the case then I would make another ticket hoping to get a better GM. Make sure to make the tickets clear and concise. The shorter the ticket the more likely it is to get attended to quickly in my experience.
The returning rewards change several times a year so maybe both the gm and anders are right. You can get returning rewards more than once per year but you cannot get the same rewards, however once they refresh the returning rewards you will be able to get the new lot.
@@isca10 should have given more info also pros and cons on what you will be getting into (conluding with a result or atleast tell us why your going back or still playing) but i like the vid anyway just was expecting something different becoz of the name

Just pick a class you like, and do the story. Slowly introduce yourself to new things, but begin with combat and the combat system.

I recently tried it out. Its great for awhile but once you figure out everything you realize its just a complete repetitive grind. After 3 weeks i just couldnt bring myself to play it any longer.

I always personally loved the kunoichi. I believe people say its good in both pve and pvp as well. But I'm not a pvp guy, but in pve I had a lot of fun with that class and got decently far without any help from anyone. But it is just a personal opinion. I plan to try Guardian next since I hear it's possibly the best class as of right now. I'm not a pro by any means, I'm still technically a newbie lol :)

Maybe higher resolution? I play on 1440p for some recordings and I can notice the quality is a lot nicer than the usual 1080p I play on.

Antialiasing actually has a big effect for me so I keep it on. For some people antialiasing actually has an affect so it's not always a good thing to turn it off. Just turn it off if the pixels are still not noticable with it being off.

Everyone should just go ahead and make all 20 classes. Level them up to around 20.They will build energy and receive contribution points. And you can also use them for extra storage space.

I think that was one of the Thursday clownfiesta nodes back when the main siege and merc guilds made planned fights for content. We always made it so we had two hours of war with no clear winner and only 2 guild left at the end for balanced fights. That one in particular may have been a stall out. If I remember right Demetori or someone else had a Carrack on the Demi River near Heidel bombarding pushes. Our flank had to deal with it, which was hilarious but killed a lot of time so instead of 2 guilds being left to fight the last half hour or so of the node war time, there were about 4 or so.

Console is their own servers unfortunately. You would have to buy it again or use the XBOX Game Pass.
All settings can be changed as soon as you reach level seven. You do not have to wait until you reach Velia.

@@KnomadJ9 from someone that came from FF XIV, it takes a bit of time to adjust. FF14 is way more "user friendly" when you want "to do" something. But once you figure out how BDO works, you will be problem free. I decided to stay and play this game because of its combat and graphics. There's really no story as the game progresses, but that wasn't a negative point for me. I am just playing BDO because of its gameplay and graphics (I own a 3070 rtx).
I actually ended up downloading it. The game is definitely something you got to take time to figure out but i like it so far, the challenge, the combat system. I only made it to 15 so far but its going smooth 🤙

I've been a casual player for years. The game is enjoyable, the RNG enhancing blows but with some patience and some savings you can get everything you need from the marketplace. This is definitely a long haul game.
I've been thinking about coming back since Nova. looks like a class I'd have a lot of fun playing. But this game has never really been pve/solo play friendly, something most mmo's suffer from. but what bugs me about this game is that is has soo much pve/solo play potential it's just never realized. plus most of the life skills are all so afk intensive. why put in a mechanic that encourages you to go off and do something else like watch a movie or play another game while you wait for 3 hours of wood chopping to be done.
After graduation can you only "transfer" your gear or can you also take the character with you?
The whole character, gear and everything you got from seasonal get transfered to the normal server

Hope you enjoy it! Ninja can be a monster in 1vX with Succession imo but I've only ever seen one Ninja on EU that I'd say was "monster" level and he had a lot of gear and technical skill. The downside to Ninja is that a lot of your moves are quick but unprotected or leave your back exposed so it takes a lot of practice to build Awareness to be able to know when to use certain skills and play well in a small scale 1vX scenario.
@@AndersGallar yea we’re stuck with awakening and after watching a couple of class videos I’ve made the decision to swap to Wizard for the PVE and NW scene which is what I’m interested in, I found myself not really playing the game anymore once I was a ninja because of all the work just to get 5k trash and etc but the pvp aspect was amazing. I also have a 1800 SP Sorc I can try but because succ just came out all the gear was bought up.

I got it for PS4 when it first released but it looks so bad and blurry I quit. I've tried to tweak the limited graphic settings but its unplayable. Anything Im not doing right?
wish there is more fashion for f2p players, and the gear progression is pretty much just grunil and then boss gears.
The new blue and green outfits you get for main story are really good, especially on newer classes.
i always wanted to come back again sadly im afraid of doing so since i already got some stuff done and everything is gonna be way too overwhelming to relearn without an option to just start from scratch :/ unless they added that ability
That's exactly my problem too, so I just deinstaled it again...
There is ZERO visual progression, no cool gear, and you do the same solo stuff the whole time no matter your lvl. There is no endgame to strive for and on high lvls you just get oneshot by high lvl and gear players. There is no co-op content except guild pvp. Not even lvling in a group isn't very useful. I feel ao lonely in the game.
My end game was guild war tho.
But i havent play for a year so idk current endgame

About the returning functionality: If you have more than 1500 hours played on the account and had another returning period before, you DO NOT get the returning bonus after 30+ days. It is once per family if the family has more than 1500h. I learned this yesterday from the GMs after waiting for 45 days to get the new returning daily log in. Needless to say I did not get anything.
Hmm, I'm going to say that is not right. GMs in this game are hit or miss. I have more than 10 thousand hours on my NA account and still got a Returning Reward after coming back recently. imgur.com/a/9vEiq16
Having already had the returning reward in the past as well.
What the GM should have said is that you cannot claim the same Returning rewards from the same period. So if a Returning Reward was claimed in March for example and the Returning Reward end date is June and you come back again after 30+ days in say the month of May, you still wouldn't get Returning Rewards.
If that was not the case then I would make another ticket hoping to get a better GM. Make sure to make the tickets clear and concise. The shorter the ticket the more likely it is to get attended to quickly in my experience.
The returning rewards change several times a year so maybe both the gm and anders are right. You can get returning rewards more than once per year but you cannot get the same rewards, however once they refresh the returning rewards you will be able to get the new lot.
