I don't believe she did fear death. I don't know exactly from where, but as this channel has quoted a few times at this point, she didn't originally haunt the bathroom, she originally came back to punish Olive Hornby, which she did until the ministry ordered her back to her place of death (likely at least part of the reason she's usually in that bathroom instead of anywhere else in the castle), at which point it was far too late for her to properly die.

      @@DarkBanks3He IS.
Despite your irrational bias he is canonically one of the most powerful wizards to ever live.
He is stated to be stronger than Grindelwald.
Dumbledore said that Tom Riddle was propably the most brilliant student to ever step in Hogwarts
Dumbledore said that Voldemorts had powers he will never have.
Their fight in the novel was actually not one sided like people remember,it was mostly inconclusive.
In the novel Dumbledore wasnt concerned with protecting Harry as he had statues do that.
Voldemort in the movie outright overloaded Dumbledores defences causing him to fall down, when he screamed NYAAAAAAAAAAH for some reason (movies are secondary canon).
Voldemort in the novels fought Minerva and 2 other wizards on par with her at the SAME TIME.(Yes he is 3x Prime Snapes power)
Him dying to Harry is simply his OWN curse rebounding at him due to the primordial power of love.
Voldemorts destructive potency is above EVERYONE, Dumbledore included.
Even if Dumbledore is overall "greater".
Dumbledore said that if Voldemort returned at full power then not even HIS own protective charms and spells would prove to be invincible.
In the novel Fawkes had to swallow an Avada Kedavra cause it would have hit and killed Dumbledore in the duel.
Contrary to popular belief, wizard do NOT get weaker with age.
      Thats not how magic works.
If anything their wisdom makes them better.
      You just don't like Voldemort.
You remind of the people downplaying Firelord Ozai for the same reason, even though he was canonically the strongest firebender shown in the show(though i believe his children would later on surpass him once they grew older)
If you are talking about YOUNG Riddle then yes he wouldn't compare to the most powerful wizards but taking into account his age he would still be that great relatively.
Voldemorts innate power was greater than everyone but his closed minded attitude towards anything than the dark arts comes to bite him
Dumbledore himself said that Voldemorts knowledge of magic was likely beyond ANY wizard and he is stated to have pushed dark magic beyond anything before him.
He was comparable, albeit weaker than Elder Wand Dumbledore and he is repeatedly indicated and outright heavily implied by Dumbledore to be MORE powerful than him if not for the Elder Wand

It seems likely to me that he didn't plan to make it a horcrux, but once he did, he added extra enchantments to it to store his legacy because he needed it to be important and special. Something just crossed my mind. Why would Tom Riddle keep going back to the orphanage? It seems that in the interest of secrecy that fostering an orphan with a wizard family would be safer.
Molly practically did that for Harry and probably would have if Dumbledore didn't he insist he spend some time each year with the Dursleys.
Riddle apparently had friends, or at least people who considered him a friend. He was a top student, like Dumbledore level good. Seems like the sort of kid a Slytherin family would be willing to take in, similar to how Slughorn "collects" talented and/or well connected students.

    • @JessicaClark-lq4gw

Riddle didnt have friends. He had servants. He probably went back to the orphanage because there he was top dog. He was feared by the staff and other children. He could do as he wished and no one told him what to do. If he was to be fostered by a wizarding family the adults would have authority over him, they would tell him what to do, he wouldnt be able to use magic and he would have to keep the mask of civility he used when at school up over the summer. When he was at the orphanage they already knew what kind of person he truly was. They were terrified of him by the time he was 11. He couldnt use magic either way but the orphanage allowed some freedom. To his mind if he was able to stay at school over the summer he would be able to explore unrestricted learn more magic, practice magic and not have much interaction with whichever teacher(s) remained as well.

@UnfazedPhoenix the question in the comment is why didnt he have anywhere else to go. Why he didnt go stay at a "friends" house. My thought is he didnt go to another wizarding home because he didnt ask. Professor Dippet says in the diary memory that arrangements could be made for Riddle to stay at Hogwarts in other circumstances but due to the attacks he couldnt. Riddle hadnt asked before that.
Edit to add: essentially if he had asked one of the budding death eaters if he could go to their homes they would have done it. Their parents would allow it because who wouldnt be taken in by the poor orphan boy who has to go back to a muggle orphanage? He didnt ask and my 1st comment explains why.

Not just his ego, although, yeah. But his narcissistic, sadistic nature made that literally impossible. As Dumbledore mentions in half blood prince. He collects trophies of his victims to forever commemorate his “victory” over others. That is why I disagree with the theory in this video. He did believe the diary was meaningful. It is the recording of his time at Hogwarts, and links him to “the greatest” of the four founders, allowing him to disassociate from his muggle side.
In fact I would go as far as to say that it’s because of the diary that Dumbledore started connecting the dots of the horcrux’s being significant objects to Voldemort.

My theory is that making a horcrux is more than just murder. There is other steps and some intent involved. Voldamort must have wrote the steps and secrets, as well as his intents, into his diary before hand. Treating the diary as part of himself at that time; his secrets private thoughts. So when myrtle died by accident, there was enough raw negative emotions poured into the diary that the DIARY ITSELF completed the steps and became a horcrux.
As for why the diary was important, I think it was voldamorts first attempt making an enchanted artifact. Make it similar to the map that distorts the words and hides what is actually written unless you do something specific. I think voldamort would have pushed it to become something like a mirror for his thoughts. He would explain his thoughts and the diary would verify and encourage his own thoughts. Then once it became a horcrux all he had to do is tweak the enchantments on it.

The Diary was created AFTER Rubeus Hagrid was arrested. This is why it shows Harry the memory of Tom acusing Hagrid. The Tom from the diary also describes the aftermath of Hagrid's arrest (Dumbledore knowing it was him and keeping him under constant vigilance).
When Dumbledore says that Voldemort chose the Diary because it proved his heritage, he probably meant the Diary contained Tom's research on his heritage (ultimately showing he is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin), and his exploration and discoveries about the mysteries of the Chamber of Secrets, and the things Mofin Gaunt told him. This, ironically, is not far from what the Golden Trio guessed the Diary contained at first.

The only way I see that happening is if Katniss gets caught hunting a year or two before the first book and either gets killed or arrested and sent to the Capital to become an avox, all this to say it would not only force Prim to do her Hunger Game but she would also have to take Katniss's place and learn to hunt and some survival skills, I'm not saying she'd be as good as Katniss but she'd have something.

The diary was definitely created intentionally. It was created not only to house Voldemort’s soul but also to do exactly what it did open the Chamber of Secrets. Everything about it serves to further the mission. It’s a plain muggle book in order to not arouse suspicion but the name and date are there to make whomever holds it curious, it being impervious to most liquid damage also furthers that cause. Once someone figures that out they’ll try to write in it if their curiosity hasn’t made them already try it and once they start that’s when the trap is sprung and the book sinks its teeth into the unwitting victim. Bonus points if they pour enough of themselves into the book that Tom can start manifesting.

    • @justicefool3942

It was probably a combination of things.
He would have had to drink that potion that causes immense suffering to get access to the locket and by the time Kreacher had arrived, he was being dragged into the lake by the Inferi. He likely wouldn't have been thinking straight, so all he could do was instruct Kreacher to do what he initially set out to do, which was destroy the locket.
Kreacher was also distressed as well being in the cave, as he was in there when Voldemort initially put the locket in the cave and he had to drink the same potion to test it out and Voldemort left him in there to die (this is also how Regulus knew of the cave in the first place). Kreacher would be understandably distressed to see his master dying in a cave he himself almost died in and likely wasn't thinking straight as well, so all he could do was follow his master's orders.

Maybe later it mentions eyes, but what if Riddle just killed her when she opened the door to not get discovered. Then he’s still responsible for killing her to create the horcrux.
To even further the completely unfounded theory, what if the process of creating a horcrux is like a grenade. You have to prime the body to create a horcrux and once you kill, you pull the pin. You are put into a state of immense pain until you put the part of the soul into a vessel. This would be why he hastily made the diary a horcrux because he had to do something quickly. It would also explain why Harry became a horcrux. As soon as Voldemort killed James, he started the process. As per a previous theory, Voldemort had gotten the sword of Gryffindor and was ready to make it a horcrux, but when he fell from the spell backfire, he was not able to control what vessel became the horcrux. At that point, the sword disappeared to not return until Chamber of Secrets.

The think that always confused me was that Voldemort never thought of making the Basilisk a horcruxe because he made Nagini one but the Basilisk was already hidden. Sooo. Why not the Basilisk a horcruxe instead of the diary. Just my personal opinion.

I wonder if maybe he couldn't? Nagini is a human woman with a maledictus curse that caused her to permanently remain in snake form. So she doesn't count as an actual animal/creature. All the other horcruxes are objects or people (harry and nagini) maybe you can't make a beast a horcrux? But! If he could have, that would have been an amazing idea. 🔥🔥❤

Yo if y'all are watching scb Harry Potter videos and NOT listening to the podcast, you NEED to be! So much of it intertwines with their videos and I'm constantly like "oh yeah they talked about that in the podcast" and I've never laughed so hard at a podcast as when they came up with the "theory" that the basilisk is 'ripping and tearing' that the spider webs 😂 They come up with so many ideas on the podcast that later pop up in videos. It really feels like I'm on the inside or in the know about what's coming on the channel (when I'm not mentally screaming at them when I have an explanation about something that they are discussing)

Do horcruxes have to be made immediately after the murder? Tom always hated his father. Couldn’t he have gone to kill him before learning about horcruxes? Then after he leaned about them he took Myrtle’s death as an opportunity to test out this new magic. Then, once he saw that it worked couldn’t he have gone and put the second split piece of his soul in the ring? Making the diary first and the ring second?

Someone else would argue that the school itself was stopping the basilisk. The founders put a lot of protection in the school so even though things like fake stairs, tunnels, trap doors ext are everywhere no one gets hurt. The chamber and bathroom have Salizar’s enchantment so they probably have less magical protection against injury

  • @jackhall290

I still fully believe that the Diary was (Riddle)Voldemort's first Horcrux, and it was from Myrtle's death at the eyes of the Basilisk. He had by then(being a Prefect allowed to roam after hours) had discovered the magic in the Restricted Section and attempted to kill multiple times.. the snake, failing to do more than incidentally petrify the victims was almost superficial because Riddle may have cast a killing curse or the snake may have been the cause of death.. either way Myrtle surprised them and Riddle capitalized on it with his first Horcrux. THEN he'd have turned subsequent kills into the rest. As the only one that stands as an outlier Horcrux AND an outlier death I think it must have been the first. Then, the Ring.

I think it still goes down in a similar way. She doesn't actually contribute that much. Once Hermione figures out it's a basilisk, everything they need to know about it is on the paper from the library book. Myrtle would have still died in the bathroom 50 years prior, Aragog would still tell the same story.

My line of thinking is that Tom unintentionally made his diary into a horcrux (much like how he unintentionally made Harry into a horcrux), than began to look in to the subject (question Slughorn) and then "experiment" with the ring with making multiple horcruxes.

To add on to this, does anyone else think that Voldemort could’ve left the diary behind to continue to search for death eaters like the marauders did with the map? And then the reason Lucius Malfoy is so trusted by him is because he found the diary instead of being given it. Meaning the death eater who failed him most only was trusted because he unwittingly found the horcrux that was a mistake. In every way, Voldemort is his own worst enemy

    • @UnfazedPhoenix
      @UnfazedPhoenix 21 день тому

That's a good one. I imagine their first go to would be that it'd just happen on another day, so I'd phrase it as what if Tom Riddle never encountered anyone else while opening the chamber of secrets? .. If the diary truly was a horcrux of opportunity then I imagine it wouldn't be made during that time period.. eventually someone else would have died though as Voldemort had opened the chamber.. so he would probably still frame Hagrid and all of that would go down the same way. But- would the diary become a horcrux .. interesting

I just wanna say I still don't think the basilisk killed myrtle. I think she looked over but again only saw the reflection of the eyes in the mirrors above the sink. She got petrified but Tom thought he was caught and couldn't risk her coming out of petrification, so while she was petrified from the reflection Tom saw the best opportunity to not only get rid of the only witness, but to create another horcrux like he had just started to experiment with the prior summer.
Because the only time the basilisk ever attacked was at the command of Tom Riddle and Tom definitely didn't say anything to tell the snake to attack in either movie or book. And it was an accidental petrification much like most of the ones in Harry's time. But again Tom being Tom saw how to opportune on a mishap.

    A. When did moaning mertal become a ghost, like was it the next day and she could tell them about her death. Was her account along with Tom Riddles' accusation?
    B. Didn't lucius give ginny the diary, and in the graveyard Lucius told voldeamort he had not heard even a whisper of voldamorts whereabouts. So I'm assuming voldamort didn't tell lucius to give the diary to someone. Unless it was the diary voldamort that told him too. And lucius didn't want to tell voldamort he got it destroyed.
    C. It's meant to be in someone's hand, but isn't it supposed to end up in the chamber of secrets. Pretty safe location maybe.
    D. Maybe he tried to add to make better the ritual to make a horcrux. Maybe he got interrupted because it wasn't planned out like the others. So it was incomplete, not worth hidding, and saw a different opportunity for it.

A man who works to open a school to protect children would do such a thing. As for the 'Rip, tear, kill', I also think it's possible that it's hungry. It HAS been years since it was last let out after all.
