    "That being said, lets check out the mechanics"
    Don't worry I already know what Hex does:
    its a Ghost type attack that has a base power of 60 and does double damage to Pokemon affected by Burn Paralysis or Poison...
    what do you mean that's the wrong Hex.

    This spell is pretty good even at early levels for Warlock, especially when you stack it with multi-hit abilities or can even boost it. Magic Missile via Magic Initiate, for example, guarantees you'll deal anywhere from 3 to 18 extra damage. And best of all you can move it to another enemy with a bonus action if you kill them. If a Wizard gets access to it via Magic Initiate and has something like Spell Sniper, they can pretty much just hide at the end of the map and start mowing down enemies.
    Edit: Oh wait, you need to make an attack roll. That automatically drops Magic Missile. So much for that plan.

    RAW ounce your spell time is 8hr or 24hrs, is there anything stopping you from casting it on a rat or something when you wake up , kill the rat, then you can consintrate on it for the rest of the day so that you have it ready move to a new target should that arrive , in the mean time you take an hour for breakfast and regain your spell slots meaning you basically get a free hex spell providing you can maintain consintration and take a short rest straight after you wake up

  • @RevRa-3
    @RevRa-3 5 років тому +9

    Ok. So, here's how you go about busting this.
    Just make a Hexblade Warlock. We'll go with a Variant Human, which lets us gain a Feat for free. Grab the Resilient feat for Constitution. I know it seems strange, but it makes you proficient with Constitution Saves. Which means a higher modifier to your Concentration Saves.
    Put your free points into Charisma (Obviously) and also into Constitution. Higher Health and Higher Boost to your Concentration Save.
    Go with Pact Of The Blade for your Boon and for your first ASI, grab War Caster feat. It gives you advantage on your Concentration Saves, which you are notably proficient in.
    Next 2 ASIs, start focusing on boosting your Charisma until It's maxed. It's your everything modifier.
    Then with your last 3 ASIs, focus on boosting your Constitution all the way. More Health, more Constitution Save Modifier which means higher chances you hold concentration on them spells.
    For your Invocations? Grab Mark Of Ill Omen for the Bestow Curse Spell. Then of course, grab the standards for Pact Of The Hex-Blade Warlock.
    You know the goodies: Improved Pact Weapon, Eldritch Smite, Maddening Hex, Relentless Hex, Thirsting Blade, Agonizing Blast and Lifedrinker.
    Make sure one of your Warlock spells is Hex.
    Here's how this works:
    On your first turn, immediately HHexblade's Curse on an enemy, which will let you use Relentless Hex to get close to the enemy to use a 5th Level Bestow Curse on the enemy. If they fail the Save (which at this point, your Save DC is 19. So unless they have a stupid high modifier they might not succeed) then they have a 8 Hour Curse on them that doesn't require your concentration. Make them take an additional 1d8 Necrotic Damage whenever you damage them with attacks or spells. Then on your next turn, Bonus Action Hex them so they take an additional 1d6 of Necrotic Damage when you damage them.
    Then. And here's the best part, just. Swing. With that Longsword.
    You'll do 1d8+12 (Cha+Proficiency from Hexblade Curse+Improved Pact Weapon) Slashing Damage. Then if you burn a slot for Eldritch Smite, 6d8 Force Damage, with an additional 1d8 Necrotic Damage from Curse and and additonal 1d6 Necrotic Damage from Hex. Then you add Lifedrinker which is another 5 Necrotic Damage, and Maddening Hex which adds 5 Psychic Damage.
    And you know what?! For fun, let's just say you used your Bonus Action on that attack for a 5th Level Branding Smite because that's on the extended spell list.
    Time to do the Damage Die roll!
    ***(So here's a bit of trivia. The way our DM rolls Natural 20s is that we max out the dice damage, multiply it by 2 and then add any additional modifiers afterwards. With that in mind. That's why I always down the max damage possible. Because that's how our DM rules it, so that's what I'm used to)***
    With a Critical Hit on a 19 or a 20, on a single swing of your Hexblade Longsword, you're doing an absolutely mental 200 Dice Damage flat of a combination of Magical Slashing, Force, Necrotic and Radiant Damage. Put the external modifiers in and you get a grand total of 212 Damage with a good mix of Slashing, Force, Necrotic, Radiant and Psychic Damage all mixed together.
    Long story short, if you hit; whatever you're fighting is dead on your first swing. And if it isn't? Thirsting Blade, just hit it again for 1d8+12 Slashing Damage+1d8 Necrotic Damage+1d6 Necrotic Damage + 5 Necrotic Damage + 5 Psychic Damage.
    You're the Cursebringer, The Hexslinger and the Legend with a Longsword who puts your enemies through the Arcane Wringer.
    You're the one who rips the soul with the edge of your blade. And thus, this build is called.
    Soul Edge

      One Heck of a build as always!

      @omgThink4uRself 4 роки тому

      Heck go all out! Use a Great Sword for it's 2d6 (7 avg dmg) vs a Longsword's 1d8 (4.5 avg dmg). However, the +2 AC from having a shield might not be worth the 3.5 (or more 1d6 worth's) of extra avg dmg though?

    • @32Loveless50
      @32Loveless50 4 роки тому

      you are forgetting how many actions you have.
      only 1 action and 1 bonus action per round.
      these uses the bonus action
      Hex, Hexblades Curse, Relentless Hex, Madening Hex,
      these uses the actions
      Attack action, Bestow Curse.
      so based of off that you first nuke would be at round 3.
      and a max of 3 of those hits as you used a spell slot for Bestow Curse.
      and you can not change the target for your bestow curse like you can with hex, so only usable vs one big target.
      so you need to keep alive up in the face of the enemy for round 3 for 2 big attacks that blows most of your spell slots.
      so this is only good for one big nuke then you are done.

  • @emanuelbremi
    @emanuelbremi 4 роки тому +1

    Does reapplying Hex cost a spell slot? - The answer lies in the text you've quoted: If the target drops to 0 hit points before this spell ends, you can use a bonus action on a subsequent turn of yours to curse a new creature. So when you move the Hex, the spell hasn't ended.

  • @Vagran
    @Vagran 4 роки тому +6

    Quick question. Make a variant human monk and take magic initiate for Hex. Use Hex as a bonus action, land a hit and impose the penalty on CON. The spend a Ki point for stunning strike. If you use that combo at level two, would that effectively impose disadvantage on the Con check vs Stunning strike?

    • @ChancesSpellbook
      @ChancesSpellbook  4 роки тому +2

      So this is a little confusing:
      By RAW, no. Stunning strike calls for a CON "Save", where as Hex only imposes Disadvantage on "Ability Checks".
      However I think that's dumb, so the Rule of Cool says you can. Honestly ask your DM for their thoughts.

      @@ChancesSpellbook I did some more research after posting this question, I think this ability would work better in conjunction with say a Druid who wants to use something like Rose Whip to pull a target, a fighter trying to grapple, or even a Graviturgist Wizard that's trying to pull a target into a spell effect. Some of those require a skill check to avoid the effect,and that would be an effective combination.

    • @DieDieNacho

      Don't know if you are still looking for answers on this ir not. But Hex is different from Hunter’s Mark. Hunters Mark specifically states you add 1d6 to Weapon Attacks, whereas Hex states you add 1d6 to Attacks. It doesn't specify only weapons or only spells, because the 1d6 of damage applies to both.

    So one thing I would do as a warlock is when I would cast the hex spell I would bounce the target to a mouse then when combat would start again I would kill the mouse to pass the hex spell to another target which when your hex spell lasts for 24 hours it means you'll almost always have access to the hex spell.

  • @bgdragon99

    Pro tip: get a ring of spell storing (it's only rare). Cast a couple hexes into your ring at 1st level before bed (Hex over 1st level is kind of a waste. Who needs more than an hour of hex really?). Save those juicy high-level warlock slots to polymorph or even better, a non-concentration spell like charm monster so you don't lose your concentration on hex.

    At early levels, this pairs well with Poison Spray as a melee range attack for two reasons. First, there is no attack roll to Poison Spray. This is good and bad news for the warlock. Good news: no attack roll, so no disadvantage for casting while threatened. Bad news: there's no attack roll, so you won't proc the extra damage of Hex. However, and this is the second reason it pairs well, if you use Hex to curse the target's constitution saving throws, they will constantly be at disadvantage to save vs your Poison Spray. At level 1, this gives you a really good chance to deal 1d12 poison damage per round, which can be significant damage to low level creatures.
