I made my character on the GTA Online release day which I believe was a week after the main games release. I was 15 years old then. Since then I’ve migrated the account across 3 consoles/platforms. I have to say, as much as I love how much content the game has introduced over the years.. I miss how simple the game was including the pvp in the earlier stages of the game
Happy 10th year anniversary! I remember when cargo businesses were added and griefing became a massive problem, especially if you were to sell 111 crates from your warehouse, and you HAD to sell in public sessions, not invite only or other private sessions. It was so bad that some people, including myself, refused to source and sell for their businesses at all. It was like a mandatory thing at the time up until the Criminal Enterprises DLC came out.
You could orbit the Buzzard around ground players and the only worries besides a jet was someone that was a high enough level to buy the rpg and minigun.
@@I_Steal_Oil then you must be lacking skills, because they definitely aren’t useless when I fly them and I won’t call myself “exceptionally skilled” or anything
I think 2017 was one of my favorite times in GTA Online altogether. Not just because griefing received its big major nerfs/counters but 3 of the 4 DLCs during that year (Gunrunning, Smuggler's Run and Doomsday Heist) felt so similar and connected to the point where every other DLC that releases doesn't compare to its predecessor (DLC before) or successor (DLC after), apart from obviously the Casino and Casino Heist DLCs.
Well the executive DLCs would have been the first version of that. To me those r some of the best trio of DLC the game got, but the best of the best still remains the Heists duo (I don't count Cayo, while it was good, it didn't really hit the same as the other 2 did)
Couldn't agree more. If you ask me, 2017 (pre-Doomsday Heist as Ghille mentioned) was the "peak" of GTA Online overall. It was a great time to be playing the game where a lot of fun could be had.
@@AtomicFallout757 That was the year that had everything; active grinding, passive grinding, racing, air PVP, ground PVP and a new heist. No other year has had all of that apart from 2016 which again proves that 2016-2017 was the prime time of GTA Online.
Man this video takes me back to my early days in GTA 2013. Can still remember how an entire lobby chased me while I just drove around in a Rhino with a 9k bounty and they shot me and themselves with their uzis until my tank exploded. Good times
Dang the nostalgia hit hard when looking back the earlier updates. I didnt start playing GTA Online until mid 2014 since I was playing Black Ops 2. After Black Ops 3 came out in 2015, I stopping playing it until I returned in mid 2016 since my friends started playing it. Been playing it until I got bored of it in spring 2023. Ill play it time to time but it will be hard to come back to it. Thank you for the memory lane trip Ghille and Happy 10 Year Anniversary to GTA Online
I started playing right after Gunrunning when I seem the latest trailer for it at my local GameStop. I was blew away. I played the story back in 2013 when the game first released and after beating it I went online for about a month but it was horribly boring so I left and went on a COD rampage for a few years. Needless to say when I came back it was a much different game at that point. I enjoyed it thoroughly until yes the dreaded orb came into play. I loved the Deluxo which took care of Oppressor griefers quickly and then even more so became a huge Stromberg fan when I realized what it could do against not only Ippressor griefers but Deluxo griefers as well. Even MK 2 abusers I could kill with it unless they knew what they were doing and kept a safe distance using chaff. Not many implemented that strategy but when they did it was pretty much curtains for me. The game has certainly come along way. It will be interesting to see how GTA 6 plays out 🤔 I can only imagine the horrors that await for us...
I started during the import/export days, and the best time was Smuggler's Run for sure. I really enjoyed using the Savage when it had the lowered missile hitbox, letting you dodge missiles. It made you work to get that death ray on target, and that made it feel very rewarding. Another favorite was the Half Track, which absolutely obliterated sweaty ground players with it's high armor and bulletproof front and back.
Great job! I joined the madness in January 2015, so I guess I was around before the game breaking changes came! I recently quit PvP games in GTA Online, due to how people play. They can't take an L. You will literally fight a try-hard for hours and the second they kill you, that's enough for them, they quit the game, message you and tell you're bad 1-0. If you kill them, they teleport to the RC or their facility and the fights over. Meanwhile, they will kill an unskilled player over and over again and not run from them after they get the first kill. I also can't forgot the players that kill you when you're engaged with another play and when you chase them, they also quit. That's usually someone that's not very skilled at the game and see an opportunity to kill a highly skilled player. These fools are also the ones sitting in their safehouse scanning the lobby seeing who they can catch off guard because they're too scared to face you straight up. They also grief with RC cars, remote vehicles and the Submarine missiles. I got tired of it. There's too much dumb stuff in the game that allows cheap kills. I usually just play in invite-only lobbies when DLCs come out. This game is full of mentally sick people. Seriously, who is that afraid the take an L in a video game??? I love your channel by the way!
I've been here since the beginning, and it's crazy to see all the changes and looking back. I still remember unlocking the AK at level 24 and actually beating most ppl cause it was an assault rifle.
2:41 Besides Zentorno, there are still some vehicles can do that bullet protection. Hellion for normal. Patriot Milspec and MOC cabs are for armored choices. If you are poor but you know how to drive, Rat Loader's loaded stuff help you. Don't get cocky, if you eat bullets, or enemy got the idea, you will die. In Perico DLC with Toreador's release before Mk.II's main nerf, Toreador can counter 3-4 Mk.IIs if you know what are you doing. Unfortnately, it was new. Lost against 3 griefers but became stronger, after that, retired from online in 2023. In Tuners update, a connection problem is fixed which it causes to deal higher damage to players and vehicles when you are playing on high ping servers. Heavy Sniper Mk.I before that update used mainly by snipers (Example, UVersusPro, Motmus) because it 1 shots more often than Mk.II with understandable recoil between shots. In Contract update, Mk.II Sniper's main damage is increased to a bodyshot. Some thought that was a glitch. With Heavy Barrel attachment, long range snipings becomes easier. You sometimes had to 2-3 shot for a kill in 1v1 LSIA sniper only, no more. Oh I almost forgot, Heavy Rifle is released in this DLC. It has Advanced Rifle damage with Mk.I Special Carbine spread rate. Joined where Mk.II was OP and Freemode KDRs but learned to counter and fought. In 2023, im tired and account got suspended.
I started in January of 2020. I have lvl 652 and almost 4200 hours in steam. I played all day during the early 2020, i didnt give a damn about school and because of Covid, staying at home playing GTA Online all day was great and when Cayo Perico rolled around it was probably the best time i had in GTA up until early 2023 when things started to go down.
I remember I played GTA online a little bit when it first came out on the 360, but I took a long break from it and got back into it starting in 2019. It’s really refreshing to reminisce about the updates I was part of during that time.
I remember first hearing about the smugglers run DLC one thing I hated about planes is you could never customize them. Sadly I was not allowed to play the PS4 at the time but a month later in September I got my first PS4 and started grinding ever since. I was so exited to see more planes and to be able to customize the planes. Smugglers run DLC was by far the best DLC in the game despite the hanger business not being entirely great. Although while others hated grinding the hanger due to the lack of money it was making them I still grinded them. I remember staying up late nights just filling up my hanger and selling it all for 850k. But of course now with the permanent 3x money and ground sell missions I have been grinding the hanger even more then ever. Even when the Cayo Perico first released I remember still grinding the hanger. For me it was not about the money. I enjoyed the missions, Smugglers run music and of course testing out each plane that I saved up for. For me the Smugglers run DLC was by far the best DLC of all time for me. My favorite Smugglers run track is the track 3 still to this day.
I started a month before Gunrunning and I remember seeing all the vehicles that everyone had not just the weaponized vehicles but the super cars and what not was so cool and now I'm a millionaire in gta and now I'm one of those guys. My friends never played gta the way I did, like Ghillie I just took the game for what it was and I'm glad.
My favorite era of PvP was a looong time ago. Before RCs, mk2s, and orbs. Helicopters weren't completely useless since not everyone used explosive ammo and the homing launcher missiles weren't hard to dodge in my favorite vehicle, the Buzzard. Players still played dirty, sure, but it wasn't like it is today. Those days you would still actually fight each other, nowadays its just people hiding in any way they can because getting killed in the game is simply the end of their world. PvP is a big waste of time now against the score warriors that have infested the game. I wish I could go back in time, to when things were better.
If you got a chance you should get your buds together and give hardcore series on GTA V a go, everything’s been reworked to make weapons pack more of a punch, body shots and every weapon (even pistols) are a viable way to down players so it plays way more like a traditional shooter, with the lowered health consistent positioning and shot placement is better rewarded so lends itself better towards player expression as opposed to who has the weapon with the best stats, and it pretty much eliminates the bullet sponging sway for the headshot or nothing rollfest the current ground pvp meta is 💀
2019-ish is when I joined. Whenever in PVP, when in a 1v1 on the ground, I love using sniper rifles and absolutely refuse to wear any type of helmet or (intentionally) kill myself. I hope the other party does so too, because they just feel honorable. The reliance on the homing missiles for any type of vehicle is also kind of hilarious. When I see someone try to spam those to me, I just... Get out of my vehicle. 9 times out of 10, the other player can't seem to do anything anymore, and while they're trying to line up a shot, they're just giving me a nice opportunity to shoot them out/off their vehicle. I am mostly a "grinder" in the game, so all the PVP I've learned was primarily to defend myself. I don't start fights either, but I do am honestly excited when I can get in one. All I hope for is that the other player plays fair, or that I can find a way around their plays. Unfortunately also, I am a PC player, so half the time I do end up fighting someone, they're using cheats. That's when the overpowered vehicles do come in handy though, sometimes. Just to protect oneself and (try to) get away, or to ragdoll the godmode player, so they can't do anything (You ruin everyone else's fun of the game, I will ruin your fun of the game.)
I also remember a time when, in auto aim lobbies, you couldn't lock onto oppressor MKII with your gun's either, that glitch made dealing with the MKII soooooo much fun....
Man, it's crazy to think about it.. Hate Gta online or love it, but being this active 10 years, over multiple systems.. Is crazy. I started once Gta online launched, and was hooked since. This massive sandbox experience felt unreal. I had so many great hours, days, months and years with it. Even though most people moved on, I can safely say, one of the best gaming experiences i ever had.. And I'm happy i was able to do it. So many crazy random moments. Heists for hours and hours with friends. Doing stupid stuff in freemode and forgetting how fast time flies and one night was over lmao. Game changed a lot, yet the core is the same. And even though the community has alot of toxic people, score warriors etc.. I love all of em lol.
I've been playing GTA Online ever since the beginning. I've seen it all and been through it all. But there's one thing that I really missed, that was the Savage helicopter having a low hitbox. That helicopter was perfect for killing Oppressor MKIIs.
I started playing on May 25, 2018. What a time it was. All be it, only a month or so until the MKII was added in afterhours. Which combined with Tuners and both Diamond Casino heists have been my all time favorites. Mainly diamond casino, just robbing the Casino when I wasn't even in Highschool on Ghillie streams are some of my favorite memories on this game. However the time's you, Doritos and I played For Honor gave me medieval brain rot and I can never go back.
Started in 2016. After finishing the story mode several times and having 2 accounts with everything I wanted (one is unused since 2019) and all my friends leaving the game, I no longer get anything from playing it. It has become boring.
Very well put video essay, as for responses for your final questions I played since the begining and enjoyed pvp then because my sniping was on point and could hit a moving target at max render distance which was cleaner than current and last gen (feels wierd saying that) I also didn't mind the tank and jet griefing all that much. What mad me not like the 360/ps3 era though was the hacking I did not appretiate having a camp fire placed on my head or a permanent "companion" that would rocket you. I belive the hacking could also have been briefly mentioned in your video.
I joined GTA Online around in 2018 when After Hours update was about to launch. I just upgraded my PC at the time to make sure I can run GTA 5 smoothly as possible and after finishing Story Mod in the game, I went into Online and had a good time with it. I know this may sound weird but I never and I mean never, once played in a public lobby in my whole years of playing Online. I think is because of how insane the pubs are and keep in mind, this is on PC so I don't wanna risk to be with a modded player that can ruin my day playing it. So that's why I play solo a lot in the game, I know it defeats the purpose but the reason is just I grinded solo all the time. It was a good time really :)
Been playing since day one, I'll stand by the best era of PvP being when the heists dlc was released. It may just be nostalgia speaking here, but for me, it was during that time when everything felt so new. I remember driving 'round town with a couple of old friends with the Insurgent Pick-Up killing cops and players alike.
I remember that the Savage had a hitbox underneath the helicopter so it wouldn't get shot down easily from the mk2 mosquitoes, and it was a great counter with them because I remember defending my business cargo from a mk2 mosquito with the Savage!
The early days of GTA Online were the best. No question about it. People were so much friendlier and more trustworthy. I noticed it turning into a warzone around mid 2015 though and that's when I stopped playing on a regular basis. I've only recently started putting time into the game again. It's been fun catching up on all the stuff that's been added since I last played, but public lobbies are still very much warzones, so I only play in invite only lobbies. Something else I've noticed is how impatient people are now. They don't wait for missions, races, etc to start. They leave after like 2 minutes. It makes trying to fill up a lobby neigh on impossible and it's really frustrating. I've been trying to do races, but everyone leaves before it starts. Like, sometimes races took ages to start back in the day, but people waited. I think it's a clear representation of how much people's attention spans have shortened since the game first came out 10 years ago.
Great video Gillie! No surprise that you made a better 10 year anniversary gift better than rockstar, who just nerfed the Cayo perico heist as their appreciation
I first started playing GTA online on PS4 when GunRunning first dropped, and I left after the Criminal Enterprise DLC got over saturated. I do want to return back and see all the new stuff
I played GTAV and GTAO for the first time back in 2015 but only played it again just after Cayo Perico came out. Despite the chaotic nature of GTA I would argue I do like GTA the most how it is currently even when compared to videos I've watched from long before I picked it back up. Maybe it's because I grew up playing rather fast paced chaotic games that involved excessive explosions and usually unpredictable situations but current GTA pvp in a way feels "at home" for me? Cayo Perico introduced the Toreador which remains one of my favorite cars and weaponized cars as it was the first weaponized one I ever got. The Contract introduced the Granger 3600LX which is my favorite car of all time in GTA. So all my favorite cars came from Rockstar's lousy attempt to return some balance to the game. To be honest part of me enjoyed the times when the Oppressor MkII still had it's op missiles, it was a lot of fun to troll MKII users from underwater in a Toreador and spam missiles out of the water at them where they couldn't fight back. Oppressor MkII users, especially griefers, had a lot more confidence in their flying mobility scooters to do the work for them. Now MkII griefers are just too scared to do anything when they can't get a clear lock-on. I also found it fun to lead an Oppressor MkII griefer around the map in my Nightshark and constantly respawning it when they went to restock their missiles. I think the way I can put it perfectly is: I like GTA Online currently the most in the pvp space because it is the best time to troll people and piss them off when their entire reason for playing the game is to use cheap and dirty tactics to try and piss you off for their enjoyment.
(Im a day 1 player for credit) When going passive, explosions can still kill you. Getting into a vehicle would randomly allow players to kill you. I remember trying to get a griefer, who was in passive, into my car with a sticky bomb on the door or license plate. I always told a few friends of mine that passive mode shouldve always been this: Keep the transparent effect and being forced out of passive when entering a weaponized vehicle. Here's the change, the countdown shoown on the bottom right corner informing you that you're leaving passive should be shortened to 15 seconds. Within those 15 seconds, players are allowed to kill you and you can't use any weapons until the timer ends. With this, no passive popping and it makes leaving passive more strategic. Want a safe way to leave passive? Leave the area that made you go passive in the first place and go to a safer one.
an odd memory of mine in regards to GTA Online is the long hiatus i took after the Cunning Stunts update. i probably got tired of it or something, i don't know, but i didn't touch GTA V overall for 2 years. i missed out on many DLCs such as Bikers, Import/Export, Smuggler's Run and Doomsday. i only got back into GTA V around the announcement of the After Hours update.
I started playing gta back in January 11th, 2020. And although i wasnt playing at day one launch I did learn some pvp tactics from this channel and how to effectively deal with Mk2 opperessors and how to dodge orb if needed. still tho im glad the mk2 was nerfed heavily
Worst part is Rockstar most likely added the orb as a joke because of how expensive it was for 1 kill but players started using it for cheap kills with the sad excuse “it’s in the game to be used” 14:07
I honestly could listen to you talk about this game and its horrible states for like an hour, the amount of work you do to entertain us and also make suggestions in balancing the various features in this game is mind blowing. I am genuinely surprised nobody at R* has ever reached out to you to offer you a job, your ideas could help make this game better than it is. Anyway, here's to 10 years of GTA Online, and here's hoping that Rockstar actually continues to make the game better.
Entity and Adder also had entirely or mostly bulletproof rears. I also used the Z-type sometimes, even though it has windows in the back they were pretty small.
10 years...... I may have pvp with someone reading this. Thank you. Thank you for playing with me all these years. Thank you for being there when family and friends chose not to be. Thank you guys for always being there to let me know that I wasn't alone. I wasn't strange. I was just a resident of San Andreas.....
I only started plying in 2017, I never knew moving while sniping didn't use to be a thing. Do you think making snipers stationary-only again would be an improvement?
Been playing since early days, not *exactly sure when I created my first, now deleted character*, but my second one, created in June 2014, is still alive, although retired almost completely. I do miss the days without the Oppressor MKII, but then again, it used to be a lot worse. I am a decent pilot myself, having collected almost every fight capable plane and jet there is, and I admit, Oppressor MK1, the original that is, is quite OP against the MKII in good hands. I did defeat a group of three MKIIs once on my MKI… at the LS Port. Yes, THREE VS ONE. 😎 Otherwise I suck at pvp, as I never gave a damn about it, but then again, I’m sure the trio was just a bunch of kids with their mom’s credit card. And to imagine, the game itself is older than a lot of the players… menatally, especially! I’m 26 myself, stuck at the mental age of 10 too, but at least I don’t (usually) go around blowing everyone’s shit up, but grind the less boring, more action missions in freemode.
i started playing gta when it was release on pc and my fav period was late 2015 to mid 2017 and my fav year was 2016 but i still play to this day i will not stop untill gta 6
Its sad how underwhelming recent updates were compared to what we had back then. I started playing in 2016 and I vividly remember getting excited for the import/export update. The ruiner and ramp buggy were so fun
1:11 You say this, but back then initiating a dearhmatch with someone in a vehicle like the tank or jet would give you that vehicle, allowong for tank/jet duping or levelling the playing field
The lack of mention for the Akula and the savage (though the latter one did get some features in videos) is interesting to me. I remember being there during the horror that is the opressor mk2's release...
I've been trough it all Experienced the good the bad the amazing and the dreadful times Me and my whole class (the boys at least) literally skipped school the week it came out to play it on the xbox 360 I was like 15 back then Now I'm 25 still play the game here and there but most friends of mine have moved on from the game and are now leading adult lives It's crazy to think that a game we started playing when we were kids is still around today when we are adults I for one will never forget the amazing years of fun and frustration the game gave me and my friends Happy 10 years Gta V 🍻
1:11 - Another counter was stickies on the floor and when the Rhino drove on top.... boom. Took many a Rhino out with that one. Being on foot was definitely a strategy.
true OGs remember the first 48 hrs of GTAO. For those that weren't there, these words merely describes it: lobbies crashing every 5 mins after hours of waiting in the clouds, that being best case scenario
gosh i remember playing gta online when it first came out. in 2014 i remember killing players from cars nonstop and there was no toxicity. now in 2023 it’s a game i still love playing but in a lot more dirty way. despite all the problems that there is. this game is still my favorite to play.
My lord its been a time, i also think it is nice to remember the isolated era of post not-supported old gen gta 5 (ps3 and xbox 360), yes, an era full of modders, freezers, and a feeling of "hey, these next gen bastards get all the goods while we rot in this hell", which lead players to start exploiting as much as posible every mechanic of the game, Lamar assaults calls, off radar, stacking 9 C4 to the front of a panto and crashing it to a Rhino. Fuck i miss getting freezed by the 5th time in a 2 hours gaming session
I always tell people the best days of gta was when the only thing ya had to worry about was a rhino tank or someone taking the lazer from the military base. i remember getting killed by the Ruiner2000 when it came around an i was kinda impressed lmao
i joined in 2018 and when i first joined and got the mk2 on my hands i didn't even know how to put missles on it now i'm rank 714 and own everything it changed alot over the past 5 years i've been playing
i played day 1 but took a long break after gta5 next gen (ps4/xbox1) came out. came back just before the casino was made, and have been playing off and on ever since.
I played GTA Online 20014-2017 on PS4, and this was the best era for this game. Unfortunately Rockstar had to add Orbital Cannon, and Oppressor MK2 that broke this game. I might try out GTA Online in GTA VI when that game final gets released.
I grew up Catholic so this game was banned in my household 😂 but once I got a job I bought it myself. Didn't really play much until the casino heist update, then I just mainly treated the game like it was payday 2. Met cool players who needed help with heists, and made wayyy more money than cargo was ever worth the trouble for back then. I never bothered with pvp until the toreador was added, it was and still is a good mk2 counter. That's around the time I found this channel and others like it, as I was searching for more pvp tactics to utilize from more experienced players than myself.
I’ve been playing GTA online since 2013 and actually be honest the methods of PVP have changed significantly and also the ways to make money have also change back in 2013. It was extremely hard not difficult to get $1.5 million but now you could make that in like, an hour or even under an hour if you really push it
Another counter of rhino back then was sniping them from very very far distance... before the thermal sniper existed tho... The helis "counter" to rpg was just always keeping the missile square at the playee shooting the homing while putting all way right the joystick and pressing LB (or all way left and pressing RB) so you would almost always dodge the homing In the hydra, the counter of new gen was going to passive with a savage and blowing them up... didnt work in old gen... l saddly was old gen still when it happened... (side note: for some reason l remember being able to move while sniping before the next gen release... might be just some confused memories or sth tho) The cargo problem was easily solved by going into your internet settings, testing NAT type and you would now be in a solo public lobby where occasionally random players would join but they would never leave their appartments for some reason, nor would they interact when you messaged them or anything... were like ghosts... idk if that happened to someone else tho, but for me was ok as long as thet didnt annoy me The ruinner 2000 fully loaded only counter was stealing a lazer (hydra was too slow and heavy) from militar base and 90° dive bombing at max cannon range and staying in a positing you could always outrun missiles if he shoot them at you... another counter could have been the savage but if they started running away, drifting, jump, aim the front up while they did a 180° in the jump and activating the parachute (they would get a ton of altitude with this) and shooting at you, you were done as those missiles were impossible to scape... later on with the hangar dlc the counter would now also be the hangar hunter (hangar cause if you directly take out a heli or a jet from hangar, it will be faster than its regular vercion of the mechanic, dont ask me why, not even l know... still works till today tho, the akula can even outrun homing missiles with this...) then the last counter of r2k fully loaded became the avenger with a copilot, also another mentions are the MOC with someone in the turrets or even the cab and just using stickys or trying to shoot them down and insurgents... the ones after the dlc that allowed you to upgrade them The smugglers run dlc only did bring the starling and pyro, all other jets were kinda useless tbh, never really seen in pvp... my beautiful starling... saddly outclassed by the raiju... l remember taking months to understand how bomb fall worked... but when did, was even able to spawn kek people with the bombs, just going nose down to where you wanted the bomb to fall, shoot it and press the bomb camera so your plane automatically recovered altitude... cluster, incendiary, gas and other bomb that wasnt base bomb was totally useless tho, the only 2 to say sth are gas that if you directly hit the person it will stick to them like a halo plasma granade and the gas would kill them while they were spawning... then also the cluster bombs that each individual small explossion had the damage if a regular bomb... but not the range, making it that even if you hit someone directly, they would survive by pure RNG, it worked more for putting them in helicopters and killing tanks, MOC, avengers in stationary mode and so... didnt work for bombing helicopters out of sky tho (yes, bombing helis and planes is actually easier than it seems, thats actually what helped me the most to learn bombing, just bombing police helicopters, people who used helis in pvp or even random players helicopters... the jet bombing became when l started actually doing dogfights... there will always be a moment when you can outrun them and basically be over them while their cannon aims at you, theres where you can bomb their jets out of sky... clusters didnt work for any of this tho cause the explossions were so small and it will always stay in the exact position of sky where it hit the heli that unless they go up, they wont get hit by any of the small explossions
Man, it feels like only yesterday when the most dangerous player to cross paths with was someone in a Zentorno chucking Sticky Bombs. These days, you gotta worry about stealth jets, hover bikes, and freaking satellite death lasers ruining the fun of anyone minding their own business.
10 years . Unreal. Despite the shit, I do love the game and this community . Nostalgic to look back - been watching you for years !
This 10th anniversary was scornful😭
All I want to say is that they don't really care about us.
I like that Michael Jackson reference👏🏾
The 10th anniversary was scornful 😭
Indicative of how Rockstar views their players
It was pitiful and disgusting. And the icing on the cake was nerfing Cayo, ONCE AGAIN!!
Good vid Mr. Ghillie. Here's hoping R* will learn from all of this and will be more pro active with balance in GTA 6.
Let’s hope so!

Crazy its 10 years day 1 player! Great game all round! Great memories 💯💯👍🏼 great vid mate
It will be interesting to see how GTA 6 plays out 🤔
I can only imagine the horrors that await for us...
Excellent work, Ghillie, this was the best "10 years" gift
I started during the import/export days, and the best time was Smuggler's Run for sure. I really enjoyed using the Savage when it had the lowered missile hitbox, letting you dodge missiles. It made you work to get that death ray on target, and that made it feel very rewarding. Another favorite was the Half Track, which absolutely obliterated sweaty ground players with it's high armor and bulletproof front and back.
Game has gone through A LOT over the years, a lot of hate has been recieved aswell. But still, this game is one of a kind.
2:41
Besides Zentorno, there are still some vehicles can do that bullet protection.
Nice video Ghillie there has been a lot of PVP issues but now it seems like it will be balanced again
I remember I played GTA online a little bit when it first came out on the 360, but I took a long break from it and got back into it starting in 2019. It’s really refreshing to reminisce about the updates I was part of during that time.
Really hate how ghillie put more effort into this video than rockstar put into the whole 10th year anniversary. Keep it up ghillie👍
Outstanding, insightful, and well edited video. Thanks for posting!
A trip down memory Lane
If you got a chance you should get your buds together and give hardcore series on GTA V a go, everything’s been reworked to make weapons pack more of a punch, body shots and every weapon (even pistols) are a viable way to down players so it plays way more like a traditional shooter, with the lowered health consistent positioning and shot placement is better rewarded so lends itself better towards player expression as opposed to who has the weapon with the best stats, and it pretty much eliminates the bullet sponging sway for the headshot or nothing rollfest the current ground pvp meta is 💀
I’m not a PVP guy personally I just really enjoy cars in GTA online but this video was really entertaining and informative
I feel old i been playing gta online since day 1 it been a hell of a ride and many more years to come
The first clip with lui gave me so many memories in just so little seconds, vanossgaming and his buddies is what made gta popular
I've been playing GTA Online ever since the beginning. I've seen it all and been through it all. But there's one thing that I really missed, that was the Savage helicopter having a low hitbox. That helicopter was perfect for killing Oppressor MKIIs.
Wow takes me back years i remember being 9 years old and getting gta when the the smugglers run update came out
Ten years bro… I’ve been playing this game for 10 whole years. That’s actually insane to think about.
I'd say 2020 had quite a few 'standouts'🙃. Nice work on the video, Ghillie. ❤
The Business Update also included the Heavy Pistol. The High Life Update also included the Massacro, Huntley S, and the Bullpup Rifle
Seeing the zentorno, kuruma, and the marksman brought back nostalgia 😔. I miss old gta.
(Im a day 1 player for credit)
When going passive, explosions can still kill you. Getting into a vehicle would randomly allow players to kill you. I remember trying to get a griefer, who was in passive, into my car with a sticky bomb on the door or license plate.
I always told a few friends of mine that passive mode shouldve always been this:
Keep the transparent effect and being forced out of passive when entering a weaponized vehicle.
I started playing GTA Online May 3 2015. The game has changed so much since then
I started playing gta back in January 11th, 2020. And although i wasnt playing at day one launch I did learn some pvp tactics from this channel and how to effectively deal with Mk2 opperessors and how to dodge orb if needed. still tho im glad the mk2 was nerfed heavily
Ghillie, I'm sure you remember day one where no one could actually get on the servers, and a lot of people having their characters repeatedly deleted.
Worst part is Rockstar most likely added the orb as a joke because of how expensive it was for 1 kill but players started using it for cheap kills with the sad excuse “it’s in the game to be used” 14:07
Only OGs remember when trying to get invites for Rooftop rumble and you try to join but it was already full 😅
What a great nostalgic video ghille
Really good and nostalgic video Ghillie!
Your 10 year content coverage is a better reward than what we've got from Rock*
Entity and Adder also had entirely or mostly bulletproof rears. I also used the Z-type sometimes, even though it has windows in the back they were pretty small.
10 years...... I may have pvp with someone reading this. Thank you. Thank you for playing with me all these years. Thank you for being there when family and friends chose not to be. Thank you guys for always being there to let me know that I wasn't alone. I wasn't strange. I was just a resident of San Andreas.....
i've been through it all but back then i was 7-8 and was very clueless about the game
I went through all of that pain as well man but lucky enough I always found a way
I started the game in 2020 cuz I always saw my friends on it and I got curious lots of great and ftisyrating momentss
as one tier flows from a sky warriors eye he muddels "at last we made it to the end"
I've been trough it all
Experienced the good the bad the amazing and the dreadful times
Me and my whole class (the boys at least) literally skipped school the week it came out to play it on the xbox 360 I was like 15 back then
Now I'm 25 still play the game here and there but most friends of mine have moved on from the game and are now leading adult lives
It's crazy to think that a game we started playing when we were kids is still around today when we are adults
I for one will never forget the amazing years of fun and frustration the game gave me and my friends
Happy 10 years Gta V 🍻
I cant believe how long ago some of the updates came out. Holy crap I've been playing longer than I thought
1:11 - Another counter was stickies on the floor and when the Rhino drove on top.... boom.
Took many a Rhino out with that one.
Being on foot was definitely a strategy.
This makes me feel Old. Take me back to 2013.
true OGs remember the first 48 hrs of GTAO. For those that weren't there, these words merely describes it:
lobbies crashing every 5 mins after hours of waiting in the clouds, that being best case scenario
gosh i remember playing gta online when it first came out. in 2014 i remember killing players from cars nonstop and there was no toxicity. now in 2023 it’s a game i still love playing but in a lot more dirty way. despite all the problems that there is. this game is still my favorite to play.
Thank you for the quick recognition that rng exists.
i joined in 2018 and when i first joined and got the mk2 on my hands i didn't even know how to put missles on it now i'm rank 714 and own everything it changed alot over the past 5 years i've been playing
10 years ago I had to create my character 10 times thanks to the very messy glitchy launch. I still remember it vividly. Damn I feel old
i played day 1 but took a long break after gta5 next gen (ps4/xbox1) came out. came back just before the casino was made, and have been playing off and on ever since.
I played GTA Online 20014-2017 on PS4, and this was the best era for this game. Unfortunately Rockstar had to add Orbital Cannon, and Oppressor MK2 that broke this game.
I might try out GTA Online in GTA VI when that game final gets released.
Mk2 oppressor day one in GTA 6 online
☹️
I grew up Catholic so this game was banned in my household 😂 but once I got a job I bought it myself. Didn't really play much until the casino heist update, then I just mainly treated the game like it was payday 2. Met cool players who needed help with heists, and made wayyy more money than cargo was ever worth the trouble for back then. I never bothered with pvp until the toreador was added, it was and still is a good mk2 counter. That's around the time I found this channel and others like it, as I was searching for more pvp tactics to utilize from more experienced players than myself.
I started playing GTA online in February of 2017, long before the oppressor, deluxo and orbital cannon.
I got bad sport yesterday and I’ve been playing gta online since 2016
Ghillie out here giving us a better 10 year video than Rockstar even gave us content wise.....
As did Badger Goodger.
I’ve been playing GTA online since 2013 and actually be honest the methods of PVP have changed significantly and also the ways to make money have also change back in 2013. It was extremely hard not difficult to get $1.5 million but now you could make that in like, an hour or even under an hour if you really push it
I do miss the MK II Speed glitch. PVE stuff was such a godsend I loved it. For PVP though? That’s another story
The speed glitch was such a godsend for traversing the map while selling biker product solo.
You forgot to mention how player blips changed to special icons when in a weaponized vehicle It wasn’t always like that
This video is amazing brought back so many memories. My self I'm a day 1 player. I'm currently level 1556
Another counter of rhino back then was sniping them from very very far distance... before the thermal sniper existed tho...
The helis "counter" to rpg was just always keeping the missile square at the playee shooting the homing while putting all way right the joystick and pressing LB (or all way left and pressing RB) so you would almost always dodge the homing
In the hydra, the counter of new gen was going to passive with a savage and blowing them up... didnt work in old gen... l saddly was old gen still when it happened... (side note: for some reason l remember being able to move while sniping before the next gen release... might be just some confused memories or sth tho)
The cargo problem was easily solved by going into your internet settings, testing NAT type and you would now be in a solo public lobby where occasionally random players would join but they would never leave their appartments for some reason, nor would they interact when you messaged them or anything... were like ghosts... idk if that happened to someone else tho, but for me was ok as long as thet didnt annoy me
The ruinner 2000 fully loaded only counter was stealing a lazer (hydra was too slow and heavy) from militar base and 90° dive bombing at max cannon range and staying in a positing you could always outrun missiles if he shoot them at you... another counter could have been the savage but if they started running away, drifting, jump, aim the front up while they did a 180° in the jump and activating the parachute (they would get a ton of altitude with this) and shooting at you, you were done as those missiles were impossible to scape... later on with the hangar dlc the counter would now also be the hangar hunter (hangar cause if you directly take out a heli or a jet from hangar, it will be faster than its regular vercion of the mechanic, dont ask me why, not even l know... still works till today tho, the akula can even outrun homing missiles with this...) then the last counter of r2k fully loaded became the avenger with a copilot, also another mentions are the MOC with someone in the turrets or even the cab and just using stickys or trying to shoot them down and insurgents... the ones after the dlc that allowed you to upgrade them
The smugglers run dlc only did bring the starling and pyro, all other jets were kinda useless tbh, never really seen in pvp... my beautiful starling... saddly outclassed by the raiju... l remember taking months to understand how bomb fall worked... but when did, was even able to spawn kek people with the bombs, just going nose down to where you wanted the bomb to fall, shoot it and press the bomb camera so your plane automatically recovered altitude... cluster, incendiary, gas and other bomb that wasnt base bomb was totally useless tho, the only 2 to say sth are gas that if you directly hit the person it will stick to them like a halo plasma granade and the gas would kill them while they were spawning... then also the cluster bombs that each individual small explossion had the damage if a regular bomb... but not the range, making it that even if you hit someone directly, they would survive by pure RNG, it worked more for putting them in helicopters and killing tanks, MOC, avengers in stationary mode and so... didnt work for bombing helicopters out of sky tho (yes, bombing helis and planes is actually easier than it seems, thats actually what helped me the most to learn bombing, just bombing police helicopters, people who used helis in pvp or even random players helicopters... the jet bombing became when l started actually doing dogfights... there will always be a moment when you can outrun them and basically be over them while their cannon aims at you, theres where you can bomb their jets out of sky... clusters didnt work for any of this tho cause the explossions were so small and it will always stay in the exact position of sky where it hit the heli that unless they go up, they wont get hit by any of the small explossions
I still remember how chaotic it was 10 years ago. My character is literally one of the first characters ever made.
Created on October 1st, 2013.
Day one servers we're awefull. I still remember loading into it took me 45 minutes.
Made mine on the first of October as well
Congratulations, there is no prize and nobody cares.
@@_Super_Hans_ why don't you got back to your Orbital Cannon and cry.
Man, it feels like only yesterday when the most dangerous player to cross paths with was someone in a Zentorno chucking Sticky Bombs.
These days, you gotta worry about stealth jets, hover bikes, and freaking satellite death lasers ruining the fun of anyone minding their own business.
Played since a couple of weeks after launch still play daily to this day love the game
This reminds me of when a DLC was actually a DLC. Great vid man!🫡
Great summary of GTA online's history
Happy 10th anniversary!! 🎉🎉
i miss the 2015 pvp :c being there since day one and seeing how they ruin the game over the years was so sad. great video
