Well explained Mark...what I usually add to this classic "chain-punch" movement, without getting the shoulder forward is, you have to have a very strong footwork and literally walk through your opponent. That is what makes the classic Chain-punch devastating. But we all know, that nowadays anybody who practice a bit MMA know how to dice or duck down over the side an seeking a possibility to get a takedown..!! I like that you call also the classic boxing punch a chain punch. Because you can actually any straight forward punch call a chain until it stops! Simple as that! But with the shoulder in you have a longer range and a bit more safe against a takedown as well you can adjust faster if the opponent throws a swing-arm or changes his direction!!! Great clip...Best regards Brian
We only link one or two techniques together as all movements can change in a split second at any moment, live time. Chain punching is only when you practice in a drill. Trouble today is people have not been taught right from the beginning and almost everyone has a different opinion in how to do Wing Chun.
THANK YOU GRAND SIFU FOR GUIDE ME WITH YOUR KNOWLEDGE..!! 🙇♀️🦅🦅🙇♀️ GREAT EXPLANATION OF THE CHAIN PUNCH TECHNIQUE..!! A BOW OF RESPECT..!! 🙇♀️🦅🦅🦅🙇♀️
If I have an opponent on the ropes in boxing, would it be potentially a good idea to get chain punches going? Like throw 4 or 5 chain punches and then throw a hook and cross to finish off for a knockout? I'm a short, stocky boxer but my hands seem to be the fastest when I can square up or when I'm jabbing in a boxing stance.
I admire Wing Chun and it is very effective but it’s simply too complicated and requires too many complex movements and stances counter to natural movements. I think of Wing Chun as a science of body mechanics. Their understanding of structure and mechanics is amazing. The style uses many structural engineering concepts and applies them to humans for power and stability. The same hand based fighting concepts exist in Panantukan (Filipino boxing) without spending weeks just to learn how to stand. Panantukan is basically Kali mixed with Western boxing. It has joint locks, checks, traps, throws, chokes and blocking like any martial art but it is based on the framework of how people move. I don’t think Panantukan is as powerful as Wing Chun and no one blocks better than Wing Chun guys - but I’m worried about fighting scumbags, not kung fu masters.
Haloa Akana I hope you’re joking, that’s not true at all, the chain punch has been in wing Chun for many generations, my Sifu trained under Grandmaster Ip Ching and he taught how ip man never used to chain punch unless it was a surprise attack or to hammer down on someone’s head who was beaten (like in UFC when they use the hammer fist on someone as a finishing move)
Great explanation why many people get into trouble by using certain techniques in a wrong distance. Thanks for sharing
thanks a lot! and yes! marvellous technique, but only when done in the right distance.

How can I keep my last three knuckles for the ideal punch without damaging my wrist
That Chaín punch Is similar to Bruce Lee punch tecnique
Why not deflect and punch with the same hand, in one movement, using the chain punches?
Actually Ip man showed it in a footage from 1960s

Actually the Chain Punch was first introduced by Ip Man or Donnie Yen.
