Im not exactly excited after getting this case... It does look and feel really cheap. I give it credit for being different... but I just wish more thought went into the materials being used. jgfjgfify Not ocd its called the real deal lol. This thing does what its supposed to do so it wins out over the Brawler 64 on delivering what was promised... It just looks like ass and is made extremely cheaply.
One thing I want to point out... as this video was more just talking about the case, but the OGST image stock no changes I had really bad N64 emulation. RetroPie on the Xu4 was 100 times better out the box for N64... so hopefully they get the LCD screen working on RetroPie so we can fully utilize this kit on an image that is easier to setup and use and Ive gotten better results emulating on.
Thank you for your honest review as always. Glad I didn’t jump on it and let my member berries cost me $40. I did that with the original Nespi case and used it for maybe 5 minutes before collecting dust on my shelf.
Got mine today and whilst I agree with your comments I'm happy with it. I cannot however get to grips with OGST. Like you, I'm more familiar with the Raspberry Pi and at present I can't even get the wireless working so can't carry out the numerous updates needed to get it working. Appreciate that is more than likely due to be lack of knowledge about the Odroid and Linux so I'll have to wait to see whats develops in the future.
lol. Ill probably appreciate it more once the LCD functions with RetroPie. Don't really care for the OGST part of it. But my biggest issue is really that lack of quality plastic.... really really cheaped out using the thinnest possible crappiest plastic for the mold.
So I got this case. I actually have an N64...a real one...with translucent plastics. The build quality is fine for a plastic case. The largest part of my my "issue" with this review, is it is it is basically a: "This is to retropie based...meh" Seriously. The tools to adapt this to retropie have already been released. The "Happy Meals Toys" comment is extreme, and the transparency is an "homage" to the older "smoke" case. I'd wager if this was OOTB (the screen and software) doing stuff with ORA's Retropie, the tone of this would have been different. His extreme squeezing is not realistic, etc. The case is fine. I already have mine set up to show snaps when I play games via retropie YMMV :)
I love this honest review but as cheap as it really does look and you displayed very well I think I'm more interested in that it does retain the 4 front USB ports which I'm new to learning about this SBC but I haven't seen another case that will do the 4 front USB ports. Hopefully as the ODROID now starts getting more popular we'll see more options like this but better. At this moment i'm looking to get a ODROID with this case and trying to learn enough to maybe put a 1TB external hard drive on the inside having that run Retropie.
I like mine and will be working on it today hopefully (honeydolist), but I am happy with it. when you take away the $16 shipping this is in the same ball park as the nes cases plus your getting an lcd. So IMHO I think it is totally worth it. I do not like the cheap power buttons to be honest but like everything else. As far as the space inside, I am throwing in a hard drive possibly. I understand the odroid is not as popular as the pi but I do believe this case is going to help big time and the builds will come. Just need to be patient
while the case might be cheap I can see an upside to this, chances are the mini monitor support will get better and that board alone is worth the price of admission so I could see myself buying this forgoing the case to use it as a "mold" to DIY a much stiffer alternative.
This is when i wish i knew someone with a 3d printer. Id remake the case with higher quality material. The look of it is cool to me. Its not a real 64, therefore i do not want it to look exactly like a 64. Its capabilities with 4 usb inputs with hdmi at a super decent price still seem like a winner though. Im still gonna get it. Edit- awesome channel btw!!!
Would have to totally agree with you. The plastic feels very flimsy and looks like it could crack and shatter. Lcd screen is cool but unfortunately that's as far as it goes. A missed opportunity in my eyes. ☹
UPDATE: After messing with it for two days now...I wish I would've seen your review prior to purchasing...I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS KIT OR CASE AT ALL!!!!
Well the 1st one i ordered comes today. I preordered another whole setup on ameridroid. Cheaply made or not the case does have nice features. Also there is not a wealth of choices out there for the Xu4 as far as cases go. Ima try setting up the OGST to try out the screen. As far as the size goes its grear. I like the fact you can place a 2.5 hard drive in it. So you can put a TB in there for romsets. Has any1 tried NDS on OGST? Unfortunately on the retropie ported to Xu4 no drastic support. Desume is severly lacking. But one system does not make or bresk the fun of playing.
I had a strong feeling that the emulation would be trash. They used the screen gimmick to sell a sub average (atgames) emulation box. I was hopeful when news of this device came out that it would be more of a hardware based solution.
The videos shown on the little screen should quit now in about 1-2 sec after the emulator ends, and with that should no longer cause any issue. Just make sure you do an update via apt-get.
I like the case. OGST on the other hand is a real letdown. N64 emulation is the only reason I bought an XU4 to begin with. I wish I had saved the money.

I ordered a clear case, they sent me an opaque black case.
It's fine I like it I didn't buy it just to look at it lol.

Madlittlepixel Have you tried Lakka?
Your honesty is commendable
Your honest reviews are why you're awesome! Thanks MLP!!
It would be amazing if the screen could display the game box art. Like a little marquee.
Thanks for the honest review. I was curious about this and you covered the details I was worried about.

what a load of dribble.wanted to see it working
I'm excited enough about it for both of us.

I love your Rammstein tatoo

How do you turn it on, I plug it in and the red light comes on and can works but nothing else happens
You need an image with the proper coding, do you have that?
thanks for the honest review man
Still can't get the LCD to work plus I can't update the system file at all. Can you do a tutorial on start to finish please :)

Thanks for this informative review. Btw, can you do a comparison of the super NT and SNES emulation on a xu4 retropie gameplay?
while the case might be cheap I can see an upside to this, chances are the mini monitor support will get better and that board alone is worth the price of admission so I could see myself buying this forgoing the case to use it as a "mold" to DIY a much stiffer alternative.

Pretty cool stuff 😉✌️

That case had so much potential too. Any updates on the xu4?
My kit came in today...I've never messed with OGST before...we'll see how it goes...

Save it for your next giveaway :-)
I do appreciate the review. I almost jumped on it, and I don't even have an Odroid yet......
You don't need an odroid N64 for dual screen, I've done it with a raspberry pi and I am sure it will work in a tinkerboard
Good info. Think I'll stick to my TinyTendo N64 3D printed pi3 case I got from CollectorCraft
is that possible to using LCD logo thing on Retro Pie build?
that is what I was thinking as I would rather use the retropie OS
Can you add your own games
I had a strong feeling that the emulation would be trash. They used the screen gimmick to sell a sub average (atgames) emulation box. I was hopeful when news of this device came out that it would be more of a hardware based solution.
I have one with a 4tybte drive from kris coolmod. Its awesome
That case is kinda shyte.
Any other retro style cases? or even a way to mount it in retroflag?
The videos shown on the little screen should quit now in about 1-2 sec after the emulator ends, and with that should no longer cause any issue.
Just make sure you do an update via apt-get.
Schlurf82 Ill update today and recheck that. Thanks for the headsup
Gees man look all they giving us for just 40$dollars, that awesome!
DOOOOD!
Dood?!
Anyone get this kit work lcd and retropie?
Boom!
I like the case. OGST on the other hand is a real letdown. N64 emulation is the only reason I bought an XU4 to begin with. I wish I had saved the money.
Dang! Peg it at ya neighbor!
the $6 snes case i got is built much better
Is it for the odroid? I can only find them for the pi3
