I bought a 2007 Sport trac limited 4x4 auto V8, fully dected out with extra options in July 2010,i love driving this truck/suv,its perfect,not to big,not to small,lots of power,lots of room,the only downfall is it burns more gas than i would like but its worth it in comfort.
Just bought a 2007 Sport Trac limited V8 with 89k miles for $8k, best money I've spent thus far, truck rides smooth and has great power for a small V8. These things are completely underrated and overlooked by small truck buyers, i myself was looking at overpriced Tacomas, Rangers and Colorados for weeks until I decided to look at SUVs and typed "Explorer" and found out a truck version existed 😁. Edit: Got a Brenspeed 93oct tune and it now does 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. Quite impressive considering everything else down to the air filter is factory stock.
Shhhhhh...... I'm thinking the same as you did. I don't want anyone else catching on, lol. I can't believe how much the Toyota's are still going for. Sure, they are excellent little trucks but you seem to get a lot more for your money with this Ford. Congrats on your truck purchase.
@@notsosilentmajority1 Thanks, since you are looking for one make sure you get the V8 version because you get 80hp-60trq more than the V6 and get roughly the same mpg thanks to the 6spd transmission. Only buy one made 2008+, the early 2006-2007 3v 4.6L have 3 piece spark plugs that break when removing them and are a complete pain to remove. 2008-2010 got revised heads and plugs that werent prone to breaking, other than that you should be golden.

This generation of explorer was great if not the best. We had a 2009 Explorer 4.6 as a police car and it was amazing. This era of advancetrac system & stability control made up for its top heaviness & made it go absolutely anywhere in any terrain. I wish we still had that thing
100% Agree. The 4th gen Explorers built from 2006 - 2010 are the best, that is if you get the V8 that were put in these from 2008 - 2010, They have nice interiors, great styling, and great off - road capability.
These things are hidden gems now. I just got a super clean 07 v8 limited in navy blue for a great price and am loving it. They don't make trucks/suvs like this anymore. I plan on keeping it mint and never letting it go
My first ST was an '01 and I loved it, only reason why I sold it was to get a 1/2 ton to pull a new camper. As soon as that camper was sold, so was the RAM 1500 and I got a '10 ST Limited with about 30,000 km's. Still have it today at 190,000 kms, still love it and wish I could get another one like it with low km's.
I have a well used ‘03 ST, best truck I ever had until I had a tire blow out while I was cruisin’ at a smooth 95 with that nice independent rear suspension just soaking up the speed bumps and then BAM!! I apparently rolled over 4.7 times because my tailgate extender caught the ruts left by my brother in law’s atv, I blame the whole thing on that damn Sport Trac!!!!
This is my FAV design of the Explorer Sport Trac. I would’ve loved this more if Ford had gone through with putting that SVT Adrenaline performance truck into production though. Oh well. At least there was an Adrenaline appearance package.
Most useful and fun to drive vehicle I've ever owned, I had a 2002 4x4 toll Sept 21st ,then my after market remote start started cooking its self and fried my wiring harnesses, I had to retire her, the next day I bought a 2010 limited v8, wholly crap is it nice to drive.
I had one lifted on 33’s from 2005-2010, and I wish so bad I had it back. The only bad thing was I got it used without 4WD. So it could move, but it could get stuck too. Either way, that truck brought me and my stuff across the country 3x. I miss it, and honestly may consider this over a $43k new truck. I also worry about getting a Ford midsized truck 15 years after it’s prime.
Just think of the money you would have to put in every month on a new purdmchase, then see what that kind of money can go towards fixing and updating your existing one, I bet after 1 year you'd have your S T looking like a showroom right off the assembly line.
I was today years old when I found out this thing existed. Before seeing one at a parking lot I only knew about the ranger & the F150 (and the other F series trucks)
@@nathanholtzclaw - I bought mine at 165K for $3,200. I had my mechanic look over it and I have 2 to 3 years before I have to do some pricey replacements by his estimation which is great for me because I needed a 4×4 to start my career in HVAC-R so when the time comes I can afford to do the swaps for about $5K (which I'm seriously considering because it's a smooth ride) or I'll have enough for a down payment on a newer model. I'd say to make sure a mechanic that you trust goes over it, high mileage doesn't mean much if the previous owner(s) took good care of it.

It was pretty funny because the guy didn't want to budge, then his wife looked at my mechanic's diagnostics report and told him to sell. I hope you find a Sport Trac that runs well for a good price. Don't forget, the price is always negotiable.
Ironically enough, even though we're talking 2 generations of explorer ago, and the fact that the problem was related to the tires more than anything else, most U-hauls in my area STILL will not rent ANY trailers to ANY year Ford Exploroer, but they will rent to Mountaineers of ANY generation!
Uhaul shouldnt descriminate if you changed out the tires & use 35psi. The wheelbase is 125.9" & suffient for towing. Maybe a class action lawsuit for descriminatory rules. Actually, Ford & Firestone shouldve released the tire data b4 selling the STs to the public & businesses like Uhaul. Just towed a 2 horse trailer 70miles RT w/o any problems. Dry wt of horse trailer 3200lbs with a 900 lb horse & limited tack. My '02 ST has factory towing pkg & towed easily up & down hills. 😊
Ran into the uHaul regulation recently with my 07 Sport Trac. But they recently loosened their grip and will let the newest generation of Explorers tow their trailers.
I've owned two of those I still got one Scott 245000 miles on it and on its third motor but I still love it I have no use for a 4.0 if I was a little bit younger I would do it just like I did in the older days find me a good 5 .o and go from there plus I would lower it
beautiful truck. would be a great hauler for someone who wants to haul 4 people and an equal number of motorcycles, jetskis, etc. I would probably own one, if only my 3rd row didnt get used so much in my explorer.
If they’d actually gone ahead and built the Lightning-like 460 hp Sport Trac Adrenalin concept for production (which would’ve enhanced the appeal of this design of the Sport Trac) had we not had the 2008 recession, what do you think THAT would’ve been like?
It would of enhanced the appeal for people like us. Not your 60 grandfather who wants a truck like suv with a 4.0 v6 for gas mileage. Think about the whole market not just the car enthusiast’s opinion
If I remember correctly Ford said the concept had a supercharged 4v 5.4 rated at 460hp, Realistically it would've had a supercharged 4v 4.6 rated at 395hp-400trq with the 6spd auto and the Cobras 3.55 lsd rear end. Probably could've been a low 13sec truck but sadly it never happened
Also because I believe the "cargo box" is made of molded plastic, not metal. If you're going to have anything with some real weight to it, you are safer to use a trailer. This vehicle can pull a lot better than it can carry cargo in it's "cargo box".
I would love to, but I dont really know the price for one of these, I talked to one of the employes and they told me it has clean title but 200k miles, don't know if its worth the 12k USD

armymatt83 incorrect. They are right with the numbers of 292 hp and 300 ft-lbs of torque. It’s a detuned Mustang engine with an iron block instead of an aluminum one used on the Mustang. The Mustang is rated at 300 hp and 320 ft-lbs of torque.

Tom DeVito they are saying the Raptor, F 150 & Alltrac are put into one new vehicle but the price tag will give you a coronary especially decked out
14/20 mpg for a V8 4x4? Not terrible. That's what my second generation Explorer V6 2wd got.

Yup I have no issues my moms explorer however couldn’t even get the little dinky trailer

Yes, you can. I have a 2010 that has a 3 inch lift kit in it. Been running it that way for over three years now and absolutely no problems.

14 mpg? I don’t think so! My best mileage is 12 around twin it’s more like 9 to 11
When I actually try I was getting 15.2mpg on average, I switch the screen and drive normal and now I'm getting an average of 13.4mpg lol

They also showed the v8 both times when mentioning the v6 then v8.

Ford shocks don't work on the Ford Sport Trac. The don't work on any Ford but they're horrible on Exporers & the Aerostar.
