- Vikram Sood, is a former chief of India's external intelligence agency the Research and Analysis Wing and an advisor to the Observer Research Foundation, an independent public policy think tank in New Delhi. Sood’s entry to R&AW was very accidental but he went on to become spymaster in 2000 in his over three-decade-long service. Sood also has the distinction of being the lone chief of R&AW who came from a non- police background. In an in-depth conversation with Smita Prakash, Sood talks about Kargil, Pakistan’s misadventures on the border as well as on mainland through attacks. Sood also reveals Musharraf’s role in Kargil and how they exposed his lies, importance of intelligence system for strategic and security interests of the country. Further, Sood also narrates the story behind Pakistan’s nuclear story and the assassination of former Prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, his relations with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his take on spy movies. In this video Sood narrates the story of how R&AW intercepted General Pervez Musharaf's call which exposed the lies of Pakistan on Kargil invasion.

One of the retired Air Force Chief of Indian Airforce is my neighbour(he bought the house after retirement). He and his son(one of his 3 kids that I meet and chat) are so down to earth and ‘normal’ folks.
IAF personnel's are down to earth only irrespective of the ranks they hold speaking from my personal experience of meeting n number of IAF personnel as my father is a serving MWO in IAF
Seeing today's IAF personnels making reels on duty (Officers as well) and sharing stories of AF campuses and technical area like it's their backyard is a shame they don't respect the dignity of the uniform or understand the criticalities or reputations of their stupid actions on duty. Not questioning everyone but I've noticed a lot of them. Defense is losing its quality and social media could be one reason for these spoiled personnels.

He was the brigadier who was in control of the area where siachin glacier exists. He tried twice to reclaim siachin but his SSG was thwarted by Indian army stationed there. Do you know a brigadier had slapped Nawaz when he was arrested. Anything can happen in pakistan .Imran was slapped black and blue when he refused to quit by supposedly DG ISI on Bajwa's orders
Musharraf was a general when he had approached benazir with his kargill plan which she out rightly rejected so he did it when he got the chance.

Where was R&AW when hundreds of Pakistani soldiers were deployed in kargil heights and when you see Dushka heavy machine guns and rations your mind boggles that that thousands of truck and helicopter would have been used to transport heavy guns and artillery to peaks of these Kargil heights. Why was R&AW sleeping when you can easily see these heavy transport vehicles and deployment through Satellites. The war would have avoided and there would be no Kargil war.

the reality is that it wasn't raw and india that had taped it, it was China who did.. Musharraf was in a chinese hotel room and that tape was given to India through America by China as the situation was going to escalate to a nuclear fashpoint.. remember, china also didn't help Pakistan when they were seeking that help during open war in Kargil..

No,it is wrong ,Hindustan used heavy artileries,0mainly boforce guns to thwart Pak attempt to capture certain strategic peaks and finally unable to achieve the goal, pak soldiers sent an sos to their general Mushraff while Nawaz Shariff rushed to meet Clinten to advice Vajpayee to stop the onslaught by Hindustani forces including use of nuclear bombs against Pak.Nawaz pleaded ignorance of Cargil war when Vajpayee called him to caution him either he stop the intrution by Pak army or else...an all out war including the use of nuclear bombs. Sensing the imminant danger Clinton adviced Pak to windup it's army and return to it's barrocks.Thus there was no chance for Pak army to capture any strategic peak on our side in this war.
Up to a point Pakistan was doing very well operation was successful.
India started to worry about it, so they sent their delegate to Israel, and beg Israel for a military intervention.
And they did.
India always needed a backup, and support either from Soviet union, or Israel.
And India is still paying Israel for this military intervention.
Be honest, Indian military is a paper tiger.

A bit of an exaggeration and a bit of lie by Sood. India and RAW did not have the capabilities to record conversations particularly out of China at that time. The conversation was recorded by NSA and it was provided by the US to India to ensure 1) embarrass Pakistan and Musharaf 2) let nawaz Sharif know what his General is up to and 3) to keep India from taking any offensive steps, particularly considering that Pakistan had already started deploying their nuclear assets for use.

As shared with me by an Indian army General who had a major role in the Kargil conflict and whose identity cannot be disclosed for obvious reasons. Note that Vajpayee was under immense pressure to go to war with Pakistan. Remember that India’s Corp 2 was at the Punjab border poised for a major offensive. And the US knew India’s preparations for the offensive and also that Musharraf had already moved his nuclear assets to strategic locations (not known to the Indians or Nawaz Sharif). The US feared that a conventional war would surely lead to nuclear exchange. So US’ deal with Vajpayee was, India does attack Pakistan across the international border and the US will ensure that Pakistan will vacate Kargil. And that is exactly what happened.
Also at 1 min and 43 sec Sood says “we had taped the conversation” and 1 second later he corrects himself by saying “we GOT that tape”.
