This young lady's children will be blessed to listen to this as they fall asleep in her arms someday!

I am a beginner singer learning this song for lessons. I can't translate notes on paper to singing just yet, and this was very helpful. Not to mention, pleasant and relaxing to listen to!

It's not a folk song, per se; it is a poem by Thomas Dekker (who was also a playwright) called "Patient Grissel", something lifted from Chaucer, who in turn had lifted it from Boccacio. Paul McCartney lifted the lyrics from Dekker, and wrote a tune for it. interestingliterature.com/2018/11/a-short-analysis-of-thomas-dekkers-golden-slumbers/

Looking at this music within my daughter's soprano songbook, it says: English folksong, 17th century, arranged by Charles Vincent. The nice comment on her singing is appreciated.

That's good to know. Often publishers were rather insular early last century. But the lyrics are definitely not Sir Paul's invention.
Sorry, knezmom for not mentioning it, your daughter indeed performs this well. I have chosen it for one of my students who is around the same age.

You seem to have gained you "knowledge" from wikipedia alone. That is an incorrect article. "Golden slumbers" with those lyrics appears in my Mezzo-Soprano album, published by Boosey & Co before 1930. It is in the Folk Songs section of that book and is attributed to 17th Cent England, no mention of Thomas Dekker. It has been accepted in the folk song section in exams and eisteddfodau for nigh on a century.

"Patient Grissel" were printed in 1603 though. And it has 3 authors, amongst which there is Thomas Dekker.

Lifted from Boccacio first, by Chaucer, and then Dekker used it, and then the Beatles did.

I never said that lyrics were Paul McCartney's. I feel sorry for being too principal on this "folk" matter, it roots at my school, where my literature teacher made a special point about that and it got deep. Sorry for my bad English too, it's not my native language.
    Again, good performance, thanks.

Folk song, yeah, right. Thomas Dekker wrote lyrics of "Cradle song", Paul McCartney covered it and named "Golden Slumbers", and it still somehow is a folk song.
    Good voice and cover though.
