Ironically, Gestalt Nier got the happy ending since he ended up in the afterlife, like all Shades aka former humans. Can't say the same for all the Replicants, who were just shells without souls and just acted like copies of their actual "owners". Heck, if you've played Automata, it's confirmed that things ended badly. The shades/actual humans lucked out.

Okey i got the ending e now and with that i can say this is most likely the place where the world records are stored in the divine tree, that is why we also see the lizard shade Hook i believe despite being as shithead as it was, this is surely no heaven but at least it is a place where the shadows can make peace with themselves and come together, you can tell this is a happy ending for them too because they wanted to live forever along with their friends and most of them got just that so congratulations i guess? Also the lizard got fcked over again so it is a plus though it might be still there but he will have to live as a fcking loser xd and i got my character back! now i'll go for nier autamata once i get all the achievements.

What’s so brilliant about this ending is how A makes you believe you’re a genuine hero and you honestly feel satisfied with bringing down Shadowlord. But, as you go through the second playthrough, you begin to realize how wrong your actions truly were and that Shadowlord is more noble and full of heart than replicant Nier. I honestly find Nier Replicant my favorite over Automata, as the theme of war and morality hits hard and doesn’t paint one side as a clear villain. Viewing the second ending is the equivalent of Alec Guinness’s final line in The Bridge on the River Kwai: “What have I done?”

I really love Brother Nier for his exploration into the morality of a typical JRPG protagonist and acts as a compelling deconstruction of the underlying faults of these sorts of characters when it comes to a situation that isn't so black and white, and how such a perspectives can ultimate lead to more harm than good. Ultimately Nier "technically" gets his younger sister back, but it's the cost of many innocent people's eventually painful death along with her eventual painful death, even before now he did shrug off Emil's killing of everyone at the Aerie which was directly caused by Nier's entire journey to save his sister.
He generally has a darker side with a lot of contempt that the game likes to show with his resentment for the shades, and how he feeds into that resentment. In particular, the Jump Heap arc acts as a great nod to his faults, in relation to seeing the tragedy Gideon faces as an excuse to push forwards in his goal, he indirectly yet knowingly pushes Gideon into a more toxic mentally for what Nier wants. This clashed with his general attitude just does a phenomenal job of displaying how one perspective isn't absolute and in the end, how his underlying sense of duty and his simplification of things and that drive to do what he needs to do to get his sister at any cost is a toxic mentality.
God I love him so much

I usually don"t comment like this, but this ending really broke me. I knew Gestalt before the remaster was even announced, so I knew the story with the father. I didn't remember ending B when going through 1.22 with brother Nier, so I kinda had the surprise effect. I have a brother who's 7 years older than me, I'm the little sister, and he has always been taking care of me. We grew up with absent parents and bad financial situation, but he was always there to help me, not matter what I needed help with. He is the person I care about the most, so when Yonah said "Thanks for always being there for me" I burst into tears and kept crying until Ashes of Dreams ended, I couldn't stop myself. The whole game is very touching, which is why it is my favorite game of all time. And I know many people will find ending C or D sadder or more memorable or even ending E, but ending B is it for me.

Of all that happend in this Game, NieR, both Versions of him didn't deserve this at all, he had in this more than 1300 years more pain to carry that I think of he would handle, even if Gestalt Yonah and Gestalt NieR are back together, they don't deserve this tragedy at all. They are too innocent and pure for whatever happened at this fateful Days 2053. And I don't even want to start to talk about the rest of the cast.... all of them suffered in there own way too much

Brilliant! This fanatical overcommitment to an otherwise very noble goal totally expresses a saying we have "L'enfer est pavé de bonnes intentions" (Hell is paved of good wills).
And perfectly tosses harshly in the face the ugly inconvenient truths that were a bit hinted at in route A, like how the protagonist already expresses some radical statements, and the "sour victories" against the pacifist shades of Emil's mansion library, and the village hill that makes you feel like "dafuk am i doing? this is not a warrior's job, there i feel more like being an executioner"

The absolute irony in Replicant Nier defeating Gestalt Nier is that the latter actually ended up in the afterlife with a happy ending. Crazy to think the entire game's plot is literally just a misunderstanding. I've seen so many people claim we play as the villain but I still feel like "our" Nier is justified same with Gestalt Nier. Just sucks that can never coexist together.
I orginally didn't think this game was story was better than Automata's (1st time playing Replicant) but with context & understanding yeah it's better imo. Automata's route A is a better experience to end on if you don't do other playthroughs. What I'm trying to say is that Replicant's story is straight foward and simple until you do other playthroughs. You basically need to do other playthroughs to understand wtf is going on in the last part of the game lol. Automata can end after each route because they have closure while Replcant feels incomplete without other routes.

People saying that we are the Villain do not understand the meaning of the game. Neither of us are the bad guy. Reality of the game is you play as the villian as the shadowlord is the original you trying to save humanity. Basically also the selfishness of our villian character caused Nier Automata to happen. When a shade returns to their original body they get immunity to the disease (helps them more) killing everyone. So because this replicant of Nier killed the orginial Nier, no antibodies were made so everyone including this Nier and his sister died off from the disease that eventally got to them so yeah. Replicant Nier is an idiot.

Plus Shadow Lord doesn't care about humanity other than Yonah, Replicants are just shells, pigs to him, If he cares about Humanity, he would have stopped shades attacking places who might have important people's replicant like doctors, scientists, engineers who would help the reborn humanity to progress faster but no he doesn't.

@@invalid4042 yeah nobody can truly claim to be right, the shades good as they were, at least most of them, were used by Grimoire Noir to bring a world of darkness, where no beauty could ever exists, he used the pain and anger of everyone to bring more destruction into the world, it didn't matter if they were good guys in the great scheme. The protagonist was fighting for what he believed in and helped and saved people along the way, he can't be called a villain, he was just unknowing of what he was doing like everyone else.

    • @Sheyxna
      @Sheyxna 3 роки тому +7

@@Swordyplayrebel the protagonist didn't understand the full impact of his actions but the clues were everywhere with the shades and he deliberately chose to ignore them. Just like how he mentioned he never thought to consider kaine and emils situation when they were kicked out, he's basically doing the same to the shades that the towns people fear and direct hostility towards, even if they weren't attacking anyone but minding their own business. Neither niers really hold a moral high ground and there are just so many Grey areas to everyone's actions. I myself tbh like gestalt nier more because while both had the same goal of protecting their sister, gestalt nier has been to hell and back, fighting for yonah for hundreds of years just to be able to be with her, only for it to be futile. Like even tho replicant niers sister was still sick, they weren't in a bad environment and situation and they actually had people surrounding them supporting them, unlike the original who was isolated. I feel like after all he's been through, he deserved the right to be happy but never got it.

The thing about Replicants and Gestalts is that they are two sides of the same coin. They have the same weight to a human, as the body and the soul respectively. Their failure to come together with one another fundamentally is what caused this tragedy to unfold.
Like others mentioned, Replicants cannot reproduce on their own. They need Gestalts to continue the fate of humanity, and the death of the Shadowlord (The original Gestalt) irreversibly dooms the possibility as all shades will go haywire without his control. The Replicants will soon die out from the Black scrawl, which was caused by the systematic error of the project Gestalt at the first place.
You are right that Replicants have their own sentience and are the same with the Gestalts in existence at one place. But that doesn't mean you are superior because you have a human body. (Or if you want a more close to real life example, think of your nationality, your skin colour, religion and the like) The irony of this game is that both you and the enemies you are fighting are the same, will some very noble wishes, and both attempted to accomplished those ends in very selfish ways. (Remember the genocide at Aerie? There are Replicants there too, you know)
The theme of the story is that every person, you and me, can become a monster as long as we think that we are doing the right thing, and will turn a blind eye to all the awful things we may have done in achieving that. Just like in real life, really. We can say, think, and do all kinds of terrible things to other human beings just because we believe we are in the right.
People feel bad about the Shadowlord not only because how he is literally you, the protagonist, with the same kind of wish that is by no means inferior to yours, but also because of the irony in thinking you are just while destroying the only hope to save Yonah. Without her gestalt, Yonah will eventually die of the Black Scrawl, in a slow and painful way within a few years. You, by trying to save the one person you love, have destroyed the last ounce of hope to actually do something to help.
This game was beautiful in its story, because it was simply put, human, all too human.
