Dr. Bergstein explains that although it happens rarely, some people lose their smell altogether (anosmia) while others have parosmia, which is when smell does return but smells that used to be pleasant are now unpleasant. Dr. Bergstein goes over what he tells patients to explain what has happened to them and how treatments like nasal sprays and smell therapy can help the sense of smell return. Dr. Bergstein encourages people who have lost their sense of smell due to COVID-19 or chronic sinusitis to see an ENT physician to improve their ability to smell through either medications or, if necessary, surgery.

Dr. Michael J. Bergstein is a double boarded fellowship trained surgeon with particular expertise in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as balloon sinus surgery. Dr. Bergstein completed his residency training at the Mount Sinai Medical Center at New York in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He then completed his facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the University of California at San Francisco. Dr. Bergstein is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and participates in the education and training of residents in all aspects of facial plastic reconstructive surgery.

I had Covid in August of 2021. I still have NO smell at all! I have phantom “smells” but no one else smells them.
I also am unable to taste anything but sweet or sour. The sweetness is not distinct as to flavor i.e. chocolate, vanilla, lemon etc. but just sweet like sugar I guess.
Me too!!! It SUCKS! It'll be 1 year in August for me. Depressing! I love food!

I had covid over the past week. Today I started feeling a lot better, and now suddenly BOOM. I can't smell or taste anything. I'm very worried!! :(

I lost of sense of smell and taste after covid. I couldn't even smell a spicy perfume from inside of it's cap, let alone mild perfume of fruits like oranges etc. I am an optimist so I began smell therapy. I would try and smell perfumes and oranges, 30 seconds morning, 30 seconds at night and in between also. God Granted me back my sense of taste and smell after just 48 hours. I was vaccinated with 2 doses almost 2 years back and my covid symptoms had lasted for 5 days. I'm ok now but I'm doing a self quarantine to complete 14 days.
I've had loss of smell and taste for almost a year now. I'd say only about 30-40% recovered and even then, some things taste bad or smell bad. Really weird. My doctor told me it takes about 1 year for many patients, but it looks like I'll have to visit a specialist soon.
I'm so sorry for that, you are brave for going through this. I'm on day 8 of covid, and have 0 smell and taste (just a small hint of some definitely strong smells, I get and only in some cases a very distant hint, almost inexistent, so 0 smell in day 8 of covid and day 5 or 6 of loss of smell.
Past Sunday covid peak, then last Sunday strong Parosmia (familiar smells are reduced to strongly unpleasant forms) Have any in the reactions here, regained the senses that they are used to?

Look for this title in utube there are many videos explaining how to restore your smelling sence back , just keep trying the methods you see until you solve the problem

@@etam8099 from what my doctor told me after losing these two senses for a month, yes it’s true; from what we know so far. It’s rare but some people are a year in without smell or taste.

Do this, it sounds nuts but do it.
1. Put right hand on your heart
2. Put left pointer finger pressed against the spot between your eyes- between your eye brows.
While doing this have another person flick the back of your head at the base of your skull.
Do the same thing again, but instead of pressing your head touch your tongue with your left index finger and have someone flick your head again.
Do this twice a day.
This worked for me and it’s a chiropractor trick to heal sinuses. P
