@cozmoandfriends9238 And Nickel Plate 765 which is actually mainline certified on NS and I also think Amtrak, CSX also once had a steam program until several issues with excursions made them ban it
Beautiful locomotives, great to see them up and running no matter what job these beauties had during a war, its over long gone we have all been there , enjoy the video and the thousands who ride these trains daily.
Very nice, well chosen locations and angles, very scenic. When we lived in Dusslingen south of Tuebingen in 1971-72, there were still steam loks in production, I recall, one came through the station at Dusslingen regularly, I suspect primarily freight, although I cannot remember for sure. I commuted daily to Tuebingen for university studies that year, every day on the trains.
Everytime I look at these steam locomotive, they always seem as if they chugging out of a wonderland, or any fairytale world. May steam trains be immortal!
Honestly Im glad Germany kept these around considering most if them were made during Germanys historic period most, understandably, HATE talking about. These could have easily been relegated to scrap to "bury the dark history" but thankfully cooler heads prevail here still, knowing these beautiful machines are part of German history and should be respected as such :3
The first engine after the intro (I don't know what the class is.) plus flying scotsman double header would be perfect, they both have TWO TENDERS just on their own, plus the smoke deflectors. It's just a shame they aren't on the same gauge.

The water consumption of a 01 is around 12 to/hr, the tender can hold 38m3. Tanking that much water takes quite some time today with water cranes and towers being rare. The local hydrant takes around 30min to feed that.
How difficult was it to reconnect to former East German rail lines following reunification? Did the signaling vary in the 40 years apart? Were there routes abandoned in favor of new ones? Was DB and DRB considered a merger like we have with railroads in the US? I'm sure the DDR locomotives were run until they were retired and replaced with more modern equipment. Are there former DDR locomotives and cars still in service?
During the division of Germany, there were always railroad lines connecting East and West Germany. The signal system of the GDR is also still partly in operation. Also, some of the locomotives and carriages are still used today by private railroad companies on the national network.
German high speed steam engines like BR 01, BR 03 or BR 18 have 3 to 4 large wheels in order to reach higher speed. Steam engines that where build for freight transport like BR 41 or BR 50 usualy have 5 to 6 really small wheels to be able to tow heavy freight cars filled with steel or coal.
Some even call it like this. But every locomotive built before 1925 had a other color than black. The locomotives built before 1925 were just painted black when the German railways were unified. The Bavarian S3/6 is green or the BR 05 is red. There are also some blue locomotives. But the preferred colors were green and red.
I think German steam locomotives have the best steam whistle and phenomenal chugging and chuffing sounds, gorgeous black with red paint
Even the BR 52?

I like how in Europe they run steam excursions on the main line where in the US steam locomotives are confined to small tourist railroads.
The us and alot of countries also do mainline steam tours look up up big boy 4014 or sp 499
They will still do mainline. Restrictions make it hard

German superiority at its best. Great trains.

Excellent video, with beautiful steam-locomotives and trains! Thank you & LIKE!
This is as good a compilation as any, pretty much. Thank you for posting. (Cheers from Australia in Aug. '22)

German railway rock.
The first engine after the intro (I don't know what the class is.) plus flying scotsman double header would be perfect, they both have TWO TENDERS just on their own, plus the smoke deflectors. It's just a shame they aren't on the same gauge.
The BR 18 201 also have two tenders + it’s green + it’s streamlined + it’s the fastest running locomotive.
Simply Wonderful! Thank You!
Great video lovely germen steam trains ☺
Awesome video, great footage, excellent sound. One of my favourite videos !!
Schöne Bilder! Großartige Dampfloks!
0:50 With two tenders!!! But I prefer the German locomotives of the first epoch (1835-1920) like the Bavarian S3/6.
These additional tenders are only used on such scenic rides, they weren’t used in normal operations
Man seeing these workhorses (not counting Hitlers BS) in action is absolutely Spitze! Danke
Awesome presentation....

first train of galore has 2 tenders omfg I never knew that Germany steam trains can have 2 tenders as well
The water consumption of a 01 is around 12 to/hr, the tender can hold 38m3. Tanking that much water takes quite some time today with water cranes and towers being rare. The local hydrant takes around 30min to feed that.
Look at the BR 18 201 (fastest running steam locomotive) with two tenders. It’s also German.
They weren’t used in day to day operations, only on scenic rides as you of course can’t refill water everywhere anymore

WOW! Amazing video! That does it! I want to railfan Germany!
Did any steam locomotives in Germany ever usd oil for fuel in the firebox like several classes of loclocomotives in America did?
Yes, there are many examples for german oil fired steam locomotives, like the DB Class 41 (10:40) or 01.10 (06:30).
Galore, Galore!
5:49 what engine class is that? I like it.
It is 99 5906, a Heeresfeldbahn HK 94-100. Here is a link to Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HK_94-100
What is the name of the town shown at 6:04?
It is Oberwesel.

Hey I have a question, the wheels on German steam trains move faster than it's actually going?
What do you mean?
I think as a rule they‘re actually smaller than the wheels in the UK(but then again what do I know?). To be quite honest I haven’t a clue.

I just adore 7 windows carriage. I like the steam locomotives, smaller.

Just wondering do germany hsve any preserved standard gauge railways and if so where?
All over the place!!!
@@bekluwe i will have to make a trip to germany one day then
Most standard gauge steam engines run on main lines but you can find more or less private narrow gauge railways in e.g. the Harz!
IMO, the Germans have the 3rd best whistles, next to the US and the USSR.
