Kabir you will find this interesting. On the day MLK was killed, Robert Kennedy learned he was dead on his way to a political rally in Indianoplis. He broke the news to the crowd, most of whom did not know, and went on to speak for five minutes - a pretty impressive speech too, check it out He had beedn advised to cancel over fears the crowd would get ugly. Instead, Indianapolis that night was one of the few big cities in the country that saw no rioting. Of course, Kennedy himself would be dead two months later.

I believe Robert Kennedy's speech was broadcast on the radio in Indianapolis so many people heard it outside of his political event and hence his speech seemed to calm everyone down in the city.

I remember the day JFK was shot even though I was only nine. The reason: it was the first time I had ever seen most of the adults around me lose control ot themselves, seemingly at a loss how to proceed, My teachers, my parents, the neighbors, suddenly they were all screaming, crying, carrying on..

I remember it the same way. I was in a Catholic school and the nuns were beside themselves. Because Kennedy was the first Catholic president. School let out early and I came home to find my mother inconsolable. This nation wept as one that day.

I wasn't born yet but I've seen so much footage of the shooting, Jackie's attempt to retrieve the portion of her husband's skull that was on the trunk of the limo is gut wrenching everytime I see it. His Secret Service agents had wanted to put the bullet proof top on the limo, if I remember, it was clear, people would still be able to see him (like the Pope Mobile sports or sported). But, President Kennedy deemed it too pretty of a day.
The conspiracy is that there's no way Oswald, while a marksman, he was not a sniper, could have made the 3 shots from the Book Repository that killed JFK and injured Connally. So, there's debate about a 2nd shooter on the Grassy Knoll. The Warren Commission decreed that Oswald acted alone.
I've watched documentaries from each side. And, there are compelling arguments that tend to lean toward a second shooter. *BUT* both sides are very compelling. However, because all the replicas that have been done to prove it was Oswald, there's one thing they can never factor into the equation and that's Oswald's nerves. Even though Oswald was a professed Communist, was an above average marksman there's no way to make THAT shot using just logic, by just using science, human emotions, human nerves, Oswald's nerves can't be plugged into a SIM and please stop calling them the ENEMY. Someday, in they'll become friends again. They are running a SIM based on science but lacking human frailties. They're missing the essential piece of the puzzle!
And, that's how the GOP is behavior has changed, they're locking themselves into a box.
We once saw this coming and WE had the man who could get to the box, get things we needed to survive and get back to the friendly side. But, we didn't utilize his power when we had it.
Get RID of the filibuster, pass the legislation you want, help people and our country will thrive again, the world will thrive too. And, if they ever recover power again, we'll need to be ready to fight as dirty as they did, it's a fanciful idea, keeping ourselves clean, but we'll lose everything we've fought for and THAT'S INTOLERABLE.
So, if they shovel pig shit, then we shovel more until there's another pit of shit we have to shovel. Why am I talking like this is a bit like the Maze movies; and, democracy dies in the SIM, because they've added Princess Beatrice and they're teaching her to fight,, but she'll never lead them..
We must stop them again, so we must learn how to fight like them. Only a man who's been in REAL BAR fights ⁿanticipates the next REAL move. And, we've also been given a Princess, (at least they're predictable). Hello Princess Loise. She doesn't need to be taught how to fight, just how to harness the rage she harbors. She was bullied constantly until corrected eye surgery fixed her condition. Maybe, we're headed into the Hunger Games now?
I don't want to think about another pile of shit but I'll do whatever I have to keep from losing democracy, that's why Princess Louise is here, she volunteered.
We must save this country and if making some dumb movie references helps the young to realize what they could lose and reminds adults of what they could lose again, I'll do it, right down to "Fight Club" with young Brad Pitt. Such are the sacrifices I will make.
Seriously, Democrats need a spine and do what you failed to do for President Obama. Just imagine if he'd been allowed to seat another 2 judges, the GOP stopped him from seating 2 additional judges on SCOTUS. Think about it, we gotta really come out swinging if America has a chance.

@@robinaddis-vaughn7271 It never ends. On Dec 15, a huge dump of sealed documents revealed that Oswald met in person with a well-known KGB agent in Mexico City two months before the assassination. Of course, all discussion of the subject is now agenda-driven on all sides.
I think poltically we are singing from the sam hymnal, but you will get trashed here if you express a political opinion. Perhaps you don't care. I certainly don't and feel no one's opinion on that matters here but Kabir's. It's his house.

There is a Broadway musical revue called Assassins which examines the stories of the U.S. presidential assassins (successful and unsuccessful, male and female). The script was by John Weidman with music and lyrics by the master composer Stephen Sondheim. On an unrelated note the first Doctor Who episode was broadcast on the day after Kennedy’s death.

That happens almost every time I hear a news report of the assassination. That was MLK’s last speech to the Memphis Sanitation Workers. He absolutely knew. I wrote a final paper on that speech for a political communications course. The things he was talking about - Malcolm X as well - are problems that still exist. Malcolm X had softened as he aged and MLK had moved more towards democratic socialism. He was really talking about economic inequality as it related to civil rights.
And Dr King’s family won a civil suit - for like $100 or something, it was in no way about the money - but they used James Earl Ray’s defense attorney to show that he in no way acted alone.

I think the conspiracy was that Oswald did not have the skills, right weapon, or was in the right place to pull off the shot the way it occurred. And where he was standing didn't match the forensics. So it is believed by some that there was another more skilled sharp shooter who did it, and that Oswald was to take the blame to better hide the cover up, and it was actually well more organized by more powerful people than we will ever know. Perhaps the plan was Oswald thought he would eventually be acquitted and paid off, but instead his killing was also orchestrated by the same group that shot Kennedy to further hide the truth.

Everything about the JFK assassination is really odd. The position of the sniper’s nest was in the book repository through a second story window which is not ideal for a decent shot, the gun used was really old and not a common model and it wasn’t fired much, the bullet holes aren’t even in the right place as they are north of where the Texas governor and the president had wounds, the grass where the shot was supposedly was fired from there is belief there was another shooter. There was a question of if Oswald could operate the gun as it was heavy and not exactly transported easily. There is even of a possible second shooter in the grass near the book repository. There is a woman called the babushka lady that wore a head scarf but the camera footage she had is missing completely. The fbi and secret service have tried but can’t find this woman or whoever as the footage has the book repository in the frame and the possible second shooter.

There’s way too much to try to explain succinctly in a comment section in reference to the conspiracies surrounding JFK’s death but the most popular and probable ones are that Oswald was a “fall guy” or “patsy” (he was set up) for the government/a government agency, most likely the CIA, and/or that JFK was killed by the American Mafia because of what he and maybe more importantly his brother Robert (who was his Attorney General of the US and who was also assassinated shortly thereafter) were doing to try to put a stop their power and corruption in the country. To be very brief on both points, though Oswald was a former US Marine, he wasn’t a sniper or sharpshooter, nor was he known for his shooting prowess based on his shooting test scores while enlisted. He also “visited” Russia and Cuba for extended periods of time shortly before the shooting, thought to in someway connected in someway to the CIA in both cases (like I said, I’m being VERY brief as far as all of this goes, the rabbit hole here is a DEEP one). And as far as the Mafia, I basically already explained the why but also Jack Ruby, who shot and killed Oswald and was in the act killed as well by police, was a known Mafia associate whom had shortly before been diagnosed with cancer giving him a short time to live, therefore making him a good resource to serve the cause - for lack of better words - and take out the one guy who could spill the beans (Oswald) and go out in “respectful” fashion to his fellow associates. Seeing as he had no otherwise known connection or motive to kill Oswald. Sorry for any fallacies in respect to the Russia/Cuba connection if there are any, that aspect is the one I’m most forgetful about at the moment.

Malcolm X and Martin Luther King were two sides of the same coin. Malcolm was more of a proactive approach to civil rights taking it straight to the white majority while king was the more peaceful type doing protests but never fighting against the police or anyone for that matter as he knew charges were going to be dropped eventually which they were as they never held up in court after the desegregation of the south. The former senator of Florida walked alongside king during the Selma march and it helped along his path to helping the people of Florida as he worked with the poor trying to raise their status. He died a couple of years ago as he was like 90 so it didn’t surprise anyone. The civil rights movement got a lot of African Americans into high places of power in various fields of work including politics. It’s nice to hear stories about that time because it’s just getting lost as they aren’t told much anymore and the people who were are dying or are getting really old and forget.

He wanted to be active in the movement but was not allowed. Because of that black people used to say that the Nation of Islam was all talk and no action. After leaving the Nation is when Malcolm got involved.

I was only 5 when JFK was assassinated but I still remember where my family was when we heard the news. Then saw Lee Harvey Oswald being shot live on TV. RFK was assassinated only a few months after MLK. He would likely have been the Democratic candidate for president that year. The train carrying his body to NY was shown on tv for days, with crowds lining the tracks. My mom cried the whole time. Can't help but wonder how things might have been different if these events hadn't occurred. The 60s was a crazy time.

Here are some facts about Abraham Lincoln most people may not know: John Wilkes Booth was actually Abraham Lincoln's favorite theater actor. The first woman to ever be executed in the US for a crime was executed as an accessory to Abraham Lincoln's murder in 1865. The reason why Abraham Lincoln really wanted to do away with slavery was because when he was growing up his family needed money so his family sold him into slavery so that his family could put food on the table.

Your figures for WW1 deaths and the global population are pretty far off. Most estimates of the number of dead are about 20 million, not 90 million, but the global population was actually a little under 2 billion, so about 1/4 of today.
