Thank you, that's great! I hope it helps them see that it's not as hard as everyone makes it out to be! I remember when I was first learning, everyone -- literally everyone -- would tell me "why are you learning Cantonese? It's so hard!" But I think that's what made it so fun ... like a puzzle that you just keep flipping the pieces over and trying to fit them in any which way haha :)
Merry Christmas, Sue, thanks for your lessons. I am a native Cantonese speaker, I just share your video to my local friend, I hope the more English speakers can learn this special language. ❤
Merry Christmas!! 🎄🎁 Welcome back & Thank you👏👏 Appreciate so much making learning Cantonese fun & heart warming!! I’m so proud of you, Sue and sooo happy to support you; a Hong konger who enjoy watching your videos👍🫶 新年快樂 🧧心想事成🧧身體健康❤️Happy & Healthy New Year! 下集再見🤗✋
Merry Christmas to you, too!! ❤💚❤ I am so glad you enjoy the videos and it makes me happy to know you do! Will be back with more in the new year (and maybe before if I get time!) We had plans to go away for a short holiday, but our 4yo cockapoo dog Percy came down with IMHA (severe anemia where his immune system was attacking his red blood cells). IMHA is an awful, horrible, terrible illness that came out of nowhere. He was perfectly healthy one day and then the next given a 50-50 chance of surviving. After FOUR blood transfusions 😱 he is finally on the very slow mend, and we are so grateful for the care he received at the veterinary hospital. A Christmas miracle! Thank you for your well wishes, they are very much appreciated and the very same to you! Have a very Merry Christmas and happiest and healthiest of new years!! 🥰🤗🥰
Yeahh a Christmas miracle gift 🙏🙏 So Happy to hear 🐶Percy is recovering to better health!! IMHA is serious😮😢 We plan to travel back to HK for short stay next year!! Please take good care 😀😀🤝🤝 Grateful & Blessings!!
Thanks! I would actually love that! 💗. I can tell you one of my favourite songs is the Alan Tam song 一生中最爱 ... (and also the live Eason version where he pretends Alan is joining him on stage :) Soooo many good songs from the old days. Beyond .... Faye Wong .... Jackie Cheung .... Shirley Kwan ... Sandy Lam.... ahhhh!!! Those were the best days ever.
a lady from a western country speaks so authentic cantonese. i’m impressed. the meaning can be so different or even opposite depending on the tone in cantonese.
Your effort to promote Cantonese appreciated. 1) Systematically, many if not most Hong Kong people or Cantonese can speak English, so it just not worth the effort learning Cantonese, The population speaking Cantonese I estimate about 20,000,000 to 30,000,000. But most educated youth or younger population in Hong Kong can speak English. 2) Cantonese was considered 1 of the most difficult languages to learn for English speakers. 3) There are other Language easier, like Japanese 日本語。 I estimate 150,000,000 Japanese speakers. There are Japanese culture music film food clothing etc。4)There are 9 tones and 6 modes in Cantonese/ Consonant + vowel makes up most words, 5) Mandarin is always an option. 6) My parent speak another Chinese dialect other than Cantonese, so they can speak regional dialect + Cantonese after my grand parents migrated to Hong Kong, In these cases, most 2nd, 3rd generation Chinese can speak Cantonese, Mandarin, English, regional dialect from their parents + some Japanese.
Oh wow! Thank you! I'm looking forward to making more like this one .... so much easier and can share more interesting things .... well, interesting to me! lol :)
Thank you so much Sue for teaching us the correct way to pronounce proper Cantonese. I do not like lazy pronunciation of Cantonese as it is not authentic. If I want anything, I want to learn it properly. 👏👏👏👍👍👍
@ just a visit to do an exam, but might just live there forever. Depends. I'm in London - things are not very safe here, I didn't realise how good it is to feel safe in HK. How about you? You can always go for a holiday, HK is great for that. Have some Dim Sum, or visit 大家樂!❤️
Mmm goi, neih hou yao Yong 😊 I have been learning for a while, my friend helps me and I speak with her and her mother. However I’m trying to improve especially with tones. Thank you! :)
I'm so glad! 🤗💖 Speaking with my mother-in-law is how I was able to really feel like I had a chance of speaking Cantonese like a HK person would. So invaluable to have a mom's help! 💝
@ it is! We went to Hong Kong a couple years ago and it was so nice to be able to politely order a cup of coffee! Altho I had no idea when the waitress asked if I wanted sugar. But I was halfway there. 😄 looking forward to your next video 💖
I am impressed with your understanding of the Cantonese language. Despite being brought up speaking Cantonese, I do not share your depth of understanding of the language that you have. How long have you been in Hong Kong for now?
Thank you! I was in Hong Kong from 1988 to 2021. Hope to go back, but things keep keeping me here in the US. I still have a lot to learn and would like to expand my vocabulary. I feel like I've lost so much since moving away from HK. 😥
haha .... yes! hats are the BEST part of winter!🤩 I honestly do not understand how people don't wear hats even in subzero temperatures -- today it was -9 C. 🥶
Same! I generally am too low with the 3rd tone. My next video will share a chart from Chinese University that tracked the tones of native speakers on a graph -- quite enlightening. :)
Hello! Retirement was boring! lol .... I did say I was going to stop (and I did), and I apologize for the confusion! I found some old videos I had recorded in 2019 last month and thought I'd share those. Then I figured I have more to say and share, so am going to aim to try and get two videos out a month. Would love to share some of my character videos ... I have so many of them already recorded for classes I was doing.
I am a native Cantonese speaker and I appreciate how you teach this difficult language.
Thank you! It's my pleasure to share what I know and hope it will help someone. 💞
I am a Cantonese speaker, but I like watching your videos. ❤❤
Thank you. I will send it to friends who want to learn Cantonese 😊

But I think that's what made it so fun ... like a puzzle that you just keep flipping the pieces over and trying to fit them in any which way haha :)

Thanks! Same to you!! 🎊

I hope so, too! It really is special. And I hope that anyone wanting to learn won't feel it's too difficult ... if I can learn it, anyone can! 🙌💖
Merry Christmas!! 🎄🎁

I am so impressed. An American speaks Cantonese with a lazy tone. 👏👍
🥰😝🥰
@@CantoneseCorner I meant you speak Cantonese without a lazy tone! 🙏
Very first language you are speaking in the world
Loving the hat! Styling out the winter.

Are you living in Hong Kong? The Cantonese language is difficult to learn .
Not any more .... but hope to again! Was there from 1988 to 2021. Curious to know what makes it difficult for you?
i am so confused......are you retiring or not? I thought you said you were going to stop youtube.....
