@@DustinDunnill hi Dustin I was thinking to get one this weekend can I ask you is this air 2 good for taking my fishing bait out as I don't know how much it will handle and is it any attachments gadget to use with it like the air pro?
At 15:55 Low Battery Warning comes on. Read the warning!! "Aircraft will land in CURRENT LOCATION. In other words RTH is canceled and it will land imediatley. Nothing to do with Sensors. Good wind test, thanks
Would suggest that all operators of the DJI Mavic Series quadcopters, read their Operators Manual, under the section - Low Battery RTH. I clearly states what will happen, when the Low Battery Warning comes on. The questionable return to home occurs when the pilot/operator keeps canceling the RTH function. There will be a point at which the battery level will no longer support continued flight, and the drone will land where it is. If it is too far away, it could be a splash down, or smacking into the local terrain. I've seen more than one such video on You Tube. Always puzzles me why people ignore the warnings? Losing a $1k drone seems.... well...... one does wondering what is going through the pilot's mind?
@@tonyowen116 Exactly. I fly much bigger things than drones, and if I get a warning, I damn well listen to it. If my drone gives me a warning, I damn well listen to that as well. Also you can apply some good piloting measures to flying so you don't get caught out, like knowing wind directions and speeds, and ideally flying out into wind, and returning home with it.
Was just about to comment the same thing. I had the critical battery RTH pop up over a neighbor's house recently and I flew it back to the driveway immediately.

I have become very interested in drones during lock down (down here in South Africa) and find your post most enlightening as entertaining. You are helping me make up my decision re getting a drone (and it is likely going to be either a Mavic 2 pro/zoom or Air 2) Thanks so much
I have found that the Mavic Air 2 handles the wind very well, and I live right on the Atlantic Ocean. But you were really dealing with some gusty winds, I'm glad you didn't any issues and you landed safely. Great demo of how it performs in high winds.
I want to see an over water to Molokini Crater flight! I'd love to see the look back at Maui from out there with Haleakala in the background. That would be awesome. Maybe use a polarizer to see through the glare of the beautiful waters around the islands. Great video as usual Dustin.

Awesome video and thank you for all you do man! Picking up my Mavic Air 2 today and I'm stoked! Your videos helped in a huge way in making my decision. This willl be my first high-quality drone that I've ever owned.
Obstacle avoidance dropping out when at full load could be due to unpredictable flight characteristics when at max power. If it is spending 90% of power driving forward, it couldn't guarantee straffing movement without being pushed backward.
it's because of the angle. When flying at high angels, the sensors cannot see the surroundings any more within required limits. For example when fighting too much headwind, the front sensors are too much lowered and pointing down instead af forward.
Once again, awesome video Dustin! Been doing some range and accuracy testing also. Noticed you made the comment that people seem to think that if they let it hover, you have a better return to home accuracy. I've heard the same thing. This is what I have come up with personally. I live in an area with a lot of wifi interference and I have a cell tower .25 mile away. The biggest determining factor for me is contrast. If I have the landing pad out, I land within an inch to 3 inches everytime. I can hover above the pad or take right off and shoot straight in the air without waiting. As long as I hear "The home point has been updated" message before flying away right away, it is an extremely accurate return to home. I've done 10 hovering and 10 fly away right aways and all 20 were accurate. The biggest distance recorded is 3 inch. Now, if I take off from a grassy area(no contrast), I am still accurate, but now its by feet, not inches. My point is I don't think it is a matter of waiting over the landing spot or taking off right away. I believe its a matter of GPS for general area and contrast for that exact accuracy. My Air 2 will even face the same position it was in when I took off. Sorry for rambling, just trying to explain what I have found the best I can. :)

Before you took off, the Sensor ICON was RED, meaning the sensors were off line at the time. Your second RTH was probably more successful, because you allowed the drone to hover around 30' for a while, before jaunting off across the country side. That the Air 2 found home in that wind, was quite remarkable. You might experiment again with the RTH, with the sensors turned off again. Take off; hover at 30' for a bit, then fly off and try a return to home. This will verify that the sensors do indeed need to be turned on, for the RTH to function properly. Try it without the wind though. Sun 07 June - Just read the RTH section of my 2 Pro Operators Manual. Section pointed out that when you push the RTH button, that the forward and backward sensors are enabled. Also it noted, that a strong GPS signal at the Home Point is required at time of launch. Would still suggest using the method that the manual states - to ascend to 10 meters (roughy 30'AGL), hold for a bit (at least until you get the green - Home Point Established - message on screen, or blink green status lights) before flying off. While this info comes from the 2 Pro and Platinum OM, I'm sure with the new design of the Air 2, it's OM, will say the same thing.
Dustin i left you a message in the comment section of one of your mavic air 2 vids. My point is in my experience flying the air 2 , no matter what distance, no matter how many turns and twist with manuel flight you almost always get a fairly accurate RTH. Usually, not always though when you use a smart function the RTH is usually off by 1-6 feet. I live in a city with alot of local wifi and have travelled more than a mile, and changing direction a few times. I press RTH and the bird lands on the mat every time. I use a smart function and only go 200-300 feet away and the RTH is inaccurate. Not horribly but compared to manuel flight it's not as spot on.
Dustin are you still going to find your mavic pro i know its been underwater for like 3 years if you are going to find it then this time what type of sub drone you gonna use?🤔
You mentioned that you don’t know how to get the gimbal back to centered after turning it with your finger on the screen. If you press the function button twice really fast it will center the gimbal back to center.
DJI told me that when you first launch, raise it a little, about 10 ft, then lower it and raise it again 10 ft pause for a bit, then take off to see much better results on precision landing. But this was also in very strong wind. But holy cow, you would never know it was windy by the vid feed, looks smooth! Incredible drone
Great Video! I'm looking to sell my Phantom 4 pro purely because of the shear size of it, become more in-practical when I want to take my DSLR and drone out. Quite heavy on your back! Was quite curious to see how well these smaller drones cope in the wind. Seems comparable to the larger P4 Pro.

What I don't get is that it appeared to *know* that it was about 13ft away from its starting point, according to the phone view at 16:44 , and yet it still decided to land where it did during the Return To Home. If the GPS measurement had been the cause of it landing where it did, wouldn't it have thought it landed at zero ft. from the starting point?? Is this a software issue (poor programing) rather than poor GPS reading?
Interesting, I didn't even notice that. Perhaps it going into a low battery level state also caused it to bail on more precise landing procedure the first time.
There is a warning in the manual regarding tracking objects that change their form. When you circle around the park you start encountering perspective distortion.

Good afternoon Dustin, Another good review. Quick question, is your Mavic air fitted with the ADS-B? The reason I ask, here in the UK the one's we are being supplied, do not have this feature fitted. All other video's on youtube about this drone, outside of CE flight regulations, have ADS-B on one of the front arms. I notice yours doesn't. Is this a sticker you have removed, or was your unit supplied by DJI free for reveiw. Regards..gps
He pays for all his drones. DJI doesn't supply any free drones to Dustin. Apparently due to COVID-19 and supply chains its only North America that has that feature. I would assume that's only the continental US and Canada (possibly Alaska as well). Dustin is in the Hawaiian Islands in the pacific. Just my thoughts, maybe he does and just removed the sticker.
Mario Saccucci fascinating; ok so I’m in the US and I crashed my first (it was one of the first and I didn’t understand autoflight stuff well enough. Now there are lots of videos to learn from). The original had an ADSB sticker. The replacement drone does not. It was new btw. But I certainly do have the feature in the app and have used it and seen warnings. So it appears to be supply chain/luck of the draw sticker or not.
Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure whether he was on DJI's mailing list. I seem to recall from one of his video's a few months ago that he said he wasn't but things might have changed. As for the ADS B, wasn't sure if it was a sticker that could be removed or like the sticker that says 'Mavic Air', which is lacquered on.
Hey Dustin, simple question if I may? Does the altitude indicated on the monitor specify the altitude from where the drone took off, or is it MSL? Thanks a lot!!
download UAV FORECAST it tells you weather u can fly or not it give you gust winds and you get set it for how high you go it would tell you the wind gust up there 1 amazing app to have for drones even the weather you get

Hello Dustin from Ireland , my name is Derek and iv'e never had a drone untill well i collect my MAVIC AIR2 tomorrow 31/10/2020 from the bottom of my heart i thankyou for all ur reviews and honest opinions about the air2 basically you made up my mind on what type of drone to buy as a complete beginner !! i have watched countless hours of utube videos and reviews about so many drones at times i was frazzled in my head lol , so basically your opinion and honest reviews made up my mind to buy it , all i can say is i,m like a 10 yr old atm with excitment about reciving it and getting it up in the air and i promise u i will let u know how it goes , once again thankyou !!!!
Good afternoon Dustin,
Another good review.
Thanks for that. Sorry to hear you had crashed your drone to find that out.
Yes, it does have it. I removed the sticker in my unboxing 🍻
I've been waiting for this video for a month!!
Hey Dustin, simple question if I may? Does the altitude indicated on the monitor specify the altitude from where the drone took off, or is it MSL? Thanks a lot!!
Yes from takeoff as zero only 🍻
@@DustinDunnill So if you take off from the Cliffs of Dover and fly down to the sea will it show that as a negative altitude?
GREAT TEST
Great test Dustin, contrata.
This is very useful! Thanks!
Hey Dustin. Which 1 is the best and worth from your experience: Mini 2, Mavic Air 2, Phantom 4 Or Pro, Mavic Air?
All are best for different reasons/needs 🙂
You have to go up to 7 meters for percision landing to record Dustin!!!
Great test, these mavics do so well in the wind. Had great fun flying my mp2 yesterday in similar wind. Looking forward to the range test!
He's got a range test already i believe.
MA2 range test is up in the series 🍻
@@DustinDunnill oops missed it! Watching now!
Will you do a giveaway?
That image stabilization... 7:09 :O
Can you do active track 3.0 test for this one? Maybe compare this active track to the mavic pro 2. Thanks!
I did a bit in my initial flight test but plan to do more 🍻
Great videos, thanks for putting these together. What do you use to record your phone screen?
Great to know it can handle some wind. By the way “doing some shots” means something totally different in my country. Lol 🤣
Skate park was closed? At 14:05 a guy climbs over the gate/fence. lol
Good eye. Yes apparently due to the virus restrictions
Another good vid, thank you. How big is the landing pad?
download UAV FORECAST it tells you weather u can fly or not it give you gust winds and you get set it for how high you go it would tell you the wind gust up there 1 amazing app to have for drones even the weather you get
