    My must have comfort item is a slow cooker. I just pack it in the truck. Great to have to cook pulled pork, Mac ‘n cheese, ribs, chicken, etc…when you are out all day and don’t feel like a bbq or cooking much when you get back - just throw it in in the morning, and let it cook all day…leave the camp windows open though because it does get warm in the camper.

    some good Comfort items, we as Tent campers don't have the luxury of having an indoor toilet so i bought my wife a Lug a loo , we set it up at the other end of the tent , no #2`s in there and empty it daily , also , Bug shirts and the thermacell for mosquitoes , (Must Have) , Happy Camping , Cheers !

      Yeah, the definition of comfort sure can be different depending on what your version of camping is. I remember when we were canoe campers and comfort meant a Thermarest underpad for sleeping on, a bug jacket and some quality 2 ply toilet paper.😁

    These are some wonderful ideas that I am looking into for Christmas gifts. I will be putting a few on my own wish list as well. One comfort item that we always use is a meat thermometer. It makes grilling so much easier. If you know the safe temperature for each type of meat, you can make sure that you don't overcook it and dry it out. It's a game changer! I'm going to look into the Cookina sheets. I think those with a meat thermometer would be a winning combo when it comes to grilling.

    Best camping accessory for us: the Gorilla Ladder adjustable height folding platform! Use it alongside the truck to load your yaks. Stand it at full height along the camper as a narrow cooking or dishwashing platform. Use it at lower height as a bench for extra visitors around the campfire. At home, use it to paint your ceilings etc or as a workmate in the garage. Best $200 we ever spent. Love to see you review it! Love your channel. Can't wait for you to travel beyond Ontario!

      I'm intrigued. I've never heard of this ladder before. I never thought of this type of ladder for camping but I can see it being very versatile in the camping environment. Very cool!

    Great tips, thanks. Cookina is basically creating indirect heat. Ideally you don't have flame under your chicken or pork until the end. Most portable grills can't turn off a burner so that's a great solution

    We've also tried many chairs and are now obsessed with the ALPS Mountaineering King Kong Chair (Amazon). No issues for years of use. All our friends end up ordering them once they try ours. They are a little low so when I had a shoulder issue I went to a KingKamp chair temporarily which I also recommend if you like a director-style chair. I also love using a camp stool as a foot rest around the fire! I ordered the collapsible basket for carrying condiments and stuff out - great idea!

    Headlamps are a must have when getting to a campsite late and trying to setup in the dark!! I used a number of times last year to takedown and setup my pop up. Good tip on the scoop holder! I haven’t taken the ice machine camping yet (tho that’s what it was purchased for) but the scoop on the counter in the kitchen is always in the way… I have many power banks that come on trips, but one solar powered may be on the wish list.
    My one comfort item has been my collapsible wagon. It’s great to haul all the stuff to the beach or store. I have young kids and they need a lot of stuff carried…

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  2 роки тому

      Hahaha, that's funny you mention the collapsible wagon. We have one and Cheryl loves it. I try to leave it at home whenever possible because it takes up a lot room but Cheryl will always check my packing to make sure it's there. It's one of those things we battle about.

    Our comfort items: Blackstone grill and a small BBq hooked up to a 30lb propane tank at the same time. We use a brass Y outlet on the tank. Getting rid of the diving board steps of the Rv to install the Lippert Solid Step.

      We hear a lot about the Blackstone Grill. It is highly regarded. We haven't actually checked one out yet. Good call on getting rid of the diving board steps. That might be something we look into in the future.

    We have a few of the collapsible containers as well. Personally I love my zero gravity chair because I love to put my feet up and recline. We also have some little folding tables that are small and light when folded and are great for sitting around the fire at night, and a larger aluminum collapsible table from Lee Valley that comes apart to about the size and shape of a collapsible chair with it’s own bag.

    A favourite of mine is my LUCI light (lantern). It's solar powered, so I charge it during the day. I prefer it to a flashlight for walking in the dark - because it spreads a diffuse light in front of me. This solves the problem I have with my balance in the dark. Also - if my destinations a pit toilet, I can hang it on the inside door handle and it lights the whole room. A friend of ours likes to borrow it to light his music when he plays his ukulele. (I'm gong to get him of his own!).

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for sharing! We love our LUCI light too. We always have it with us. We keep it in the trailer for when power goes out or we're boondocking. It gives off a surprising amount of light for a long time before needed to be recharged.

    Absolutely LOVE my Strongback camp chair. Bought it years back at Walmart. Thankfully, no rivets have gone, but it is starting to wear and it doesn't feel as supportive. A year ago, I went on the website, to find out where I could buy them. Totally shocked at the price, but I said to myself, that they are totally worth it. Looking to buy another one this spring.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  2 роки тому +1

      Cheryl is ready to buy some more but I'm a little more frugal and I'm sure we can get many more years out of these ones. If we happen to find a great deal on them (and Cheryl is always looking) then we'll get some new ones. If I didn't have any at all, I wouldn't hesitate to pay the full price right now to get some, because they are that good.

    Thank you for this !
    My “must have” camping items are :
    Sportbrella
    Originally designed for as a quick beach umbrella, its best use is campfire comfort
    You can have a fire in the rain
    Best of all, incredible heat it keeps. You only need a small fire now as heat is kept at your back. It’s an incredible difference !
    As fire those hard to start fires, portable blower is your best friend
    You will start any fire like a pro. But it’s greatest use is fast inflation of mattresses and pool accessories
    Inflate a mattress in seconds, without noise and plugging in those cheap little ones. It won’t over inflate as it can’t build pressure, but mass quantities of air fill up anything in seconds. Not done yet, those leaves on mat … gone in seconds
    Those bugs and pine needles on awning…. Gone before you retract awning. Wet table ? So many uses for this little portable leaf blower.
    Thanks again for taking the time to create these videos ❤

    Thanks for the ideas! I have just added the solar charger to my wish list for 2022. I love my collapsible containers as well. Last year, I purchased a portable hammock (like a camp chair but a hammock) and love it for reading at the site. I also got a few solar lights from Canadian Tire and set those around the site. They are especially wonderful when we return after dark.

    • @CampingwiththeColes
      @CampingwiththeColes  2 роки тому +1

      We love the solar lights too. We have a few different kinds around the site. I like that they aren't too bright so they don't bother others but they give us enough light to see around the campsite when we have a fire or when we come back from a friend's site.

      We have a very similar hammock but don't get much use out of it. Many sites don't have the proper tree placement to use them. Also, we are usually pretty active during the day and don't hang around the campsite that much. I did however really enjoy it at our waterfront site at Pog Lake for an afternoon nap.

    I love this video but a piece of me died during the cookina sheet part! What makes barbeque so good especially for pork chops is the fat dropping on the flames, having it flare, and then the flame kisses the protein for that flavor! I recommend the sheets for proteins like fish where it will flake away if you dont use one. A trick for pork chops that size is cut a shallow slit in the side so that the fat doesnt buckle and lays flat, then, once both sides are dark golden, theyre done. Grill lines dont mean anything, you want full golden across the surface. Remember, pork's safe temperature is only 145 unlike chicken where its 165. And because of thermal energy, even if you take the pork out at 140, it will rise about 8 degrees if you rest it. Don't be afraid to go for the juiciness!

      @CampingwiththeColes  2 роки тому

      Cheryl wants to know if you'll come and cook for us. Sounds like you got that cooking thing down. I'm awful at it so the Cookina sheets are a blessing for someone like me. Thanks for the tips, I might try it out. Happy camping!

    • @redcanary7
      @redcanary7 2 роки тому +1

      @@CampingwiththeColes One thing you can try because pork is pretty cheap, just cook 1 more than you normally do and try to take it off when it looks done. For pork chops 1" or less, when they look done, they are done. When the meat is white inside (usually a bit stringy) its done.
