@@TheCoutureCourtesan It's great until it's 100 years later, and you're trying to figure out how the damn dress was worn on a mannequin cause you can't tell the front from the back, and wait what is this strap for and why is there a hook there omg how did I get stuck inside the dress and why is there still a gaping hole over here?!?😂 jk...kinda...😂
"Every historical wardrobe should start with accurate undergarments." So true! I just did a mens Victorian video and had to have the undergarments. The Edwardian era is one of my favorites too. Great video!
daywear from this is era is such a rare thing to see recreated when it's still so elegant and honestly would make such a great intro for people dipping their toes into historical dress. Especially those beautiful dresses. I'd 100% wear these.
This is why I'm looking into the 1910s for making my first historical-ish garments. I like the late 1890s and early 1900s but the silhouettes are intimidating and the lengths are too long as I prefer below the knee and shin length.
So very beautiful. It brought me back to my early, early childhood when my grandmother would get dressed in just those undergarments befor putting on 50's styles! LOL She was just stuck in her time period, but it worked! She was always ramrod straight and smooth.
Absolutely fantastic and well informed (as usual). BUT....I’m having such a hard time concentrating because of your.........pile of amazing longbow arrows in the corner, lol!
I still have little metal snaps on their original cardboard cards from the turn of that century. Being born (1971) to an older Mom (b. 1934) who was the child of really old Parents (b. 1874/1889). It intrigues me to see their daily dress style "come to live" in such informative videos. Showing your 😍beautiful creations. Truly love this👌🏻.
Just like me. I was born in 1971, my mother was born in 1928 and my grandmother was born in 1888. I love this era of clothing. When I was young I liked Victorian and my mother never understood why I liked ‘old fashioned’ stuff!
@@AntelJM oh my, your dear Mother was even older, then mine, when she gave birth to you. I totally understand why we both like "by gone times". Was your Mother the last/youngest in a longer line of siblings? (My Mom was the first & only child of my Grandmother and 5th child for my Grandfather - who had been widowed twice before. Never got to know my Grandparents). Is your Mother still around to share your interest & hobbies and are you able to listen to stories from her youth and her Parent's earlier life?
I’m constantly amazed at how every period of clothing looks amazing on you! I’ve always thought 1910s fashions were a bit dowdy, but you make them look so chic. Love seeing how complicated all the fastenings are too. More please!
They certainly knew how to dress back then. I love seeing examples of clothing from that era because it gives me an idea of what my grandmothers wore when they were young ladies.
It is amazing how lovely women used to dress and wanted to present themselves. As a fellow I love all three outfits and the undergarments too. Then again I have always been a fan of vintage attire for the ladies. Ma'am, you certainly did a wonderful job with these outfits . 🙂
I am LIVING for this! Hardly anybody recreated late 1910s fashions, despite the fact they are soooo pretty! Thanks for sharing, this was wonderful. I am excited for what you come up with next :)
One of my favorite movies, Out of Africa, features costumes from that era and they are stunning! Of course, Meryl Streep can carry off any sort of fashion, as demonstrated in the movie, but you are no slouch, my dear! Beautiful!
I, too, love the fashions from this period. In fact, I love the fashions of many other centuries. Not too keen on today's fashions, though. Oh, how I wish I could sew! If I could, I would make my own clothes, too. Enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing. :)
I don't have the patience for sewing, but I would try at least once (with a historically-accurate hand crank or foot peddle sewing machine and hand sewing-thanks Bernadette Banner). I would love a historically accurate wardrobe of different time periods to help me get in the mod for writing each day, and of course, all the research it would provide! Samantha looks gorgeous in the Tudor and 1910s and '20s looks! I'm currently in a Tudor era phase and have binge-watched all her videos.
love your vids, i have always loved this era ...i used to watch House of Elliot, basically for the look. i always loved their business troubles, and how they would be upset because they couldn't get the right buttons or something. i designed a line of clothing after this downtown abbey era in the nineties , just love it
Suddenly I'm a huge fan of an era of clothing I never previously gave a second thought! Your outfits look even more amazing than the fashion illustrations, and they just look so pretty-yet-wearable that I really want to sew them. Also, I am a fan of your very nice hat.
For years I thought my style focused around the 1940s but in recent years I have been pulled back to the 19teens ever so happily. Now to just make some pieces, the Rilla is in my stash just waiting on the right fabric and time to come along.
I like looking at this cause my grandmother was born in 1895 and it makes me see how she was dressing although she was only 15 years old at this time she passed away when I was 18 yr. Old I am now 72 yr. old She was quite a lady she was a milliner She made hats She was always dressed up in a dress , hair earrings and all. She was a high society lady from Nebraska I miss her still😍
I love the style of this period!! And you wear it so well! Watching each look come together in this video, I'm transported directly to that time period, so cool and inspiring, I would love to make some of these items for myself 😊
Hey! we were livejournal friends about a million years ago. I am so pleased to see you made the jump to youtube! I can't wait to go through all your videos and see what you come up with in the future -girlnamedxena
Oh my goodness!!! The decoration on that autumn outfit is incredible!!!! I will scour Instagram in the off-chance you put more pictures of it there! Your work is such goals!
Very lovely indeed, and exactly the visual research I was hoping for. (I just saw a colorized & restored 1910 upward vent clip & didn't notice a petticoat. But, if the petticoat was calf height, then it would easily blow above the knees.)
This is an amazing video and your creations are gorgeous! 1910s, especially the second half are my absolute favorites! Thank you for sharing this look into the period! I hope that you do more of this era.❤
Oh my!! 1910’s is definitely my favorite decade, and the first I’m trying to tackle while learning to sew. Making a Rilla Corset now. Thanks for the video!!
We are putting together a LHM in Central Washington State. Our time period is 1917 to 1923. We have some pictures of women's work dresses, skirts, blouses and aprons but it would be so neat to see a video that we could show volunteers of what a farm woman would wear. The big pockets in the aprons, mostly from what we see are the dark skirts and light colored blouses. Do you have an suggestions? We do have all of the catalogues.
Beautiful! The first two is totally wearable now. It still has modern silhouette. Where did you acquire the checked linen fabric? It’s really beautiful and unique.
these are all STUNNING, but wow this is one of the few pieces of historical clothing that does actually seem like the undergarments would be irritating to go to the restroom in lol. altho tbf ppl wear rompers to this day and i just don't get those either 🤷🏻🤣
There could be some pretty racy clothes-shedding film scenes set in this period, with all those snaps! 😂 Do snaps allow for an easier alteration of size?
this era is so underrated and you ROCK it! 🪨
Hehe, hiiiiiiiiiii meme mom. Anyways totally agree with you. You pull this look off amazingly😍
Agreed! Grateful that you made this. :)
yay! Your 1910s wardrobe is so, so, lovely!
I LOVE that you showed so many examples! And those closures are just crazy! They got creative in that era, for sure.
I think the creative closures are one of my favorite parts of this era! I can't wait to do some evening wear and play with those closure methods!

This would DEFINITELY be me! 🤣🤣 I kept thinking, the only way I could survive is if I had my very own Anna Bates.

Yes! Definitely more beginner friendly than some time periods and so wearable today!
This is why I'm looking into the 1910s for making my first historical-ish garments. I like the late 1890s and early 1900s but the silhouettes are intimidating and the lengths are too long as I prefer below the knee and shin length.
I’ve been swooning over late 19teens fashion advertisements for almost two years now. Love getting to see the styles on a person!
So very beautiful. It brought me back to my early, early childhood when my grandmother would get dressed in just those undergarments befor putting on 50's styles! LOL She was just stuck in her time period, but it worked! She was always ramrod straight and smooth.
The hat was beyond adorable, although I think the house dress was the prettiest of the three outfits.

Three outfits! Like getting three scoops of ice cream instead of one. Your work is gorgeous. Thanks for being so generous.
Ok, now I want a coat with embroidery and a muff. Like, seriously. How pretty and elegant is that?

LOVED the fall outfit. I would SO wear that!
Wish these styles come back ! It is beautiful ❤
I adore all the button details from this era!! Everything here looks lovely, and so well made!
OK that daytime dress is just so awesome, I love the piping the buttons the black-and-white scheme it’s just beautiful.
Yey! This time period is one of my absolute favorites when it comes to fashion, it's so much fun! You've made some beautiful pieces :)
That embroidery and ribbon work (is that what it is?) on the autumn ensemble is just gorgeous. So detailed and intricate!!
All of these are so lovely, but that last one has my heart!

LOVE the style of the dresses! Very practical and modern, but beautiful!
I wish you had a close-up of the embroidery/ trim of the autumn coat. It was beautiful!

Oh the suit!! My heart! 💗💗

Amazing! You've inspired me to make all the 1910s dresses now!
I fully agree with your opinion regarding this style of clothing, they are beautiful I would like to obtain the pattern of the corset you are wearing.
The undergarments are so pretty I wanna dress like this 😭
Seeing those adverts make me wonder of how long it must have taken and who might have drew them- they look so lovely!
That gingham housewife dress 😍

Do you have recommendations for patterns for that era? Your outfits look lovely.
Wearing History has reproduction patterns, as well as Silk and Thimbles on Etsy. Past Patterns has them too!
You look great in that outfit
Very lovely and talented lady .
My Great Grandmother was a milliner during this time in NYC.
There could be some pretty racy clothes-shedding film scenes set in this period, with all those snaps! 😂
Do snaps allow for an easier alteration of size?
That's a good question! They are much easier to move around than, say, buttons and buttonholes, but hooks and eyes are easy to adjust too.
You look like Cora Crawley in your last look 😍
Very pretty tortie (and dresses of course)
