@@TheCoutureCourtesan I came across your videos about a year ago and thought you were gone forever (who could blame you, I imagine making these videos is so difficult!)...but I'm stoked that you've returned. Thank you for making beautiful, informative, clear videos for us! Truly a blessing.
The timing of this video is unparalleled - I have just decided to embark on my own long-desired Tudor Gown and have been watching your old Tudor videos!! ❤
@@TheCoutureCourtesan Thank you so much♥ The weather is getting warmer now down under and it will be too hot to do the fittings so maybe I will wait for next winter........yes too scared to start 😂
Beautiful and perfect work! You are always so inspiring and your sewing is meticulous. Loved seeing the back pleating detail as that has stumped me. My favorite Anne Boleyn reproduction!
@TheCoutureCourtesan Ooo, I was actually going to ask if they ever used wadding to pad their pleats, in England! I could only specifically remember hearing about it in the Italian context.
Wonderful! I met you at Tudor Con this year and so enjoyed your talk. And I do have to say that I feel very lucky to have seen your dress /costume in person. It is absolutely lovely and so incredibly well made!
I loved this! So well researched and so gorgeously crafted. I have a portrait of Anne in my living room and I quite enjoyed watching the gown come to life while the source inspiration was hanging on the wall across from me. Safe to say, it came out perfect 😍
I love your work. As a sewer I am in awe at your finish and the completed assembled layers are a testament to that skill as it fits you to perfection and that is no easy feat to achieve.Well done! An inspiration!! Sewing the rayon velvet must have been so hard!!!!!! XXX
I found your channel in the past month, and I'm so excited that I didn't have to wait too long for an update! I'm glad you've decided to start posting again. :D
SHE LIVESSSSSSS I mean, I knew you were alive cause I've seen you show up on the JYF youtube channel since your last video, but I straight up jumped for joy seeing a new video on this channel lol
You are back!!! ❤ And this is my dream project A long journey is ahead of me (as a beiggner seamstress) but I believe that one day I will be able to do it. I love how much research and love you've put into creating this gown and creating this video. It is good to have you back!
oh my goodness! I remember the video about the kirtle this popped up during my errand running and the moment I got hope I had to watch. I've been looking forward to the next half of this project. one of my favorite parts was the documented receipts for clothing that had survived. I once had a book that had a few of those retyped out with photo of original and they're fun to read. There was even one about a will and a woman who inherited a tablecloth from I believe her employer who made it into a few coifs one apron two petticoats and I believe one whole new smock. (I wish I still had that book and could remember the name of it) it was a fun read . the dress reveal was so amazing! I am in love with the train and the sleeves!
so happy to see you again, this video came at just the right time. so many layers and layers of fabric in this outfit, you can tell that it was meant for a quene.
I was so excited to see this pop up!!!! I said to my husband - she's the one who did THIS video *early 16th century Tudor common woman's pose* and he knew exactly which costume I was talking about - WELCOME BACK!!!!
Yass I'm in the beginning process of starting my own full tudor garb. A bit daunting but this is great encouragement. Your peices are absolutely gorgeous!
You have a very thorough producer! Gotta say, I wasn't sure I'd be up to anything creative in the near future but you've inspired me to get back to my sewing pursuits. Maybe not today but definitely this week! Thank you so, so much, I really enjoyed watching you put this gown together!
Beautiful 😍 Always really liked and been interested in Anne too ☺️ Then again I got a tattoo of her signature and her daughter Elizabeth I signature surrounded by a Tudor rose with a crown over it 😉
It's beautiful! The sleeves are magnificent, and all the tiny lining stitches are so satisfying! I've only done a few little cuffs and facings with that silk/rayon velvet, and ugh it's so wiggly. I wish fabric companies made velvet with a rayon pile on a cotton ground, so we could have something affordable with a somewhat similar look & weight to the historical silk velvet.
Stunning. And it suits you so well. Even the headband/hood thing looks flattering on you. It tends to look odd in portraits (imo) but seeing it on you, I can see why it was fashionable for a while.
Was interested in your description of the padding in the hem of the skirt. I don't have a good sense of when skirt supports came into use in Tudor fashion. The farthingale was supposedly brought in by Katherine of Aragon and/or Mary I(?), but not really prevalent until mid-century (20 years after Anne Boleyn). And bum rolls were definitely in use in Elizabeth's day, but was that when they started? I read that the first instance is an inventory for Elizabeth I circa 1580?
It would be cool to see you make a late 16th century style of French hoods, particularly the ones shown in the portraits of Queen Mary I, love your videos 💗
Beautiful work, Samantha! I appreciate your discussing the design and material decisions you made, and it's also great to see the layers and process of dressing. The result is spectacular!
I was just wondering about you recently and went looking! Hope your time away was everything you needed and so excited you’re back! Ok now to watch your video 😊
I'm glad you chose velvet. For some reason reason I always thought it was velvet in the portrait. I'd like to see a video regarding that crazy headdress Elizabeth Woodville was wearing in her portrait.
Interesting note on red undergarments...my granny, born in the 1940s here in N. Ireland and of Ulster-Scots heritage had a piece of red flannelette/brushed cotton about 6"×14" with 2 long ties. It was to be worn next to the skin to alleviate back pain! I don't know if it worked, just found it in a drawer!
Thank you! I got it from Fabric.com many years ago and sadly I haven't been able to find anything that nice at that price point again... Should have bought more!

Your elegant features and rich dark hair and eyes really work SO well with this gown, you make a very convincing queen!
True. She looks like she stepped right out of a historical portrait herself.
OMG YOU'RE BACK!!!
The dress is a stunner - something about the way the velvet moves just looks /so/ classy.
Thank you! And I agree!
I see your kitty is also wearong luxurious black velevet. So coordinated.
But of course!

Oh gosh I wanted to mention that in the video! The first reference to farthingales in the Royal Wardrobe is 1545 for Elizabeth as princess.
Those photos are incredible you look perfectly at home at that historical site
Stunning! I can’t wait to see it in person!
Thank you! ☺
It's a really gorgeous dress, and the velvet looks stunning. Also, you look kind of like Anne Boleyn too!

I don't know if this was intentional, but just in time for airing of Wolf Hall season 2!
Just a very happy coincidence! I can't wait to watch it!
wonderful timing I am about to sit down and watch it right after this.
I just watched Firebrand this week and saw that she was wearing a red kirtle. I thought it was just a style choice but I didn’t know that fact about it
Yes! I was so happy to see all the red petticoats! The costumes were excellent.
How did you make the fur sleeves detachable?
outfit is stunning:) i have a question: it has so many layers but open back is it for cold weather or warm? is it comfortable?
Where did you get the chain necklace? I've been working on a 1590s dutch outfit and just havent been able to find anything appropriate.
I think it was a length of chain that I got on Etsy! I'll have to go through my order history to see if I can track it down!
My fabric budget would be the first subtle hint that I won the lottery. ;)
How many hours do you think you spent on this? So curious!!
Because of your French hood video, I can never take the headband style seen in popular media seriously.
That 8th grade photo is cool as hell, not embarrassing at all imo.
dont lose your head!
