Well for one you don't go out 100km off shore with it, it's a recreational electric hydrofoil board meant for use close to shore. If the battery dies you paddle with your hands back to shore. It's probably not for you since you're asking such questions....

I think what make that machine be so expensive because the manufacturing process is quite difficult, the price of expensive components, and the idea of making that machine. because I think not everyone have a good idea and then can create machine which there in their mind, for do it they need skill
why not put a mesh that doesn't obstruct water flow but can't accidentally trim off a toe? seems like too much of a worry jumping off at a distance to not get injured. 360 ball mesh should do it.
