One thing I really like is that the reason the zombies broke in, was because it was raining. And what do humans do when there's a lotta rain? They try to find shelter. I loved the show, and then after that, I read the manga. It's interesting how much they changed for the anime. You really should read from the beginning to see the little changes and everything. The story is really dark, honestly made me sad, and got a few tears out of me near the end.
I actually think that’s what makes the setting and show in general work so well for me. The zombie apocalypse setting is so done to death (ha ha) that even with a story in that setting as unique as this, it still needs a little something extra to stand out. And the whole idea of the zombies not just being generic enemies, but still having a little bit of the person they once were in there is absolutely incredible. Not only does it make the general setting more horrifying as now the zombies that you’re mowing down still have a little bit of who they once were still inside them, but it also makes the problems allow more emotional and human solutions. To clear out a room of zombies, you don’t use a big gun: you appeal to their inner humanity. This honestly makes the whole concept 10 times better, as it ties the characters attempting to avoid the zombies to what makes the whole concept so scary in the first place.
The manga changes really do make a difference. On the one hand, the anime really did a bang-up job of adjusting the order of reveals for maximum impact. On the other hand, small changes near the end of the anime kinda... cut off the likelihood of a second season by leaving out the clues to where the plot is going next. Even going so far as to provide an alternative reason for the building catching on fire (a lightning bolt instead of a helicopter crash), which feels like a change they made just to provide an excuse for why they need to leave the school without adding a plot point that wouldn't be wrapped up before the season ended.
When it was revealed five pebbles is responsible for zombie apocalypse i couldnt stop crying. The saddest part was when slug the cat died. Cant believe moon would leave him like that.
So my friend recomended this to me. He is a HUGE weeb and really likes slice of life, and i never heard of it before, so for the first 18ish minutes of the first episode i was completly sold on the idea of it being a totaly mid to below-average slice of life moe anime... _and then it hit me like a truck, and i loved it_ i think the whole idea of making the sequences of slice of life be so long is to make the horror-zombie scenes hit even harder and seem even more creepy, also probably to sell us more on how she is still beliving her delusion so thoroughly, but in the end it ended up feeling too long and unnecessary, and it's kinda fucked up that the whole time these girls are having a good time in the pool the only thing i was thinking about was "okay when does the zombie shoes up and kills their friend?" in the end, i really liked it, was a fun watch, 8/10, would recomend, probably will read the manga some day

School Live is a great anime, for sure, I just wish it would get another season. The first half of the Manga is kind of lack-luster, and the anime reflects that. The point where the manga continues is fucking wild though.
I believe that when you mentioned “alluviate” you may have meant “allude” which is a word meaning to hint at something. Oh and by the way I would watch literally anything you put out so I loved this.

Hi. I read the entirety of the manga, so I know what happens after this. Do not click "read more" if you do not want serious spoilers. I want to add onto his comment at 15:40 of "no notable consequences". So, before I start this, let me say: The manga is very mid. In fact, I'd say the Anime is better in almost every imaginable way, when compared to the manga, but I won't get into details, as like I said, I'm going to talk about there being "no notable consequences". The twin-tailed girl, forgot her name, actually has lasting issues. You see, that cure didn't really 'cure' her at all - in fact, it did barely anything. What prevents her from getting infected is ... The water in the school, which is pumped from some river - unlike the rest of the city. In any case, they don't know this, so as they leave the school, twin-tails starts progressively getting worse. For instance, at first, her body gets cold, yet, she doesn't feel it. She also has hallucinations, as if she were a zombie, and starts behaving like them from time to time. At last, she loses control of her legs and, quite literally, has to be carried around, or pushed in a wheelchair. I actually like that the cure didn't work - that our protag was slowly getting worse for wear - as it is an interesting dynamic. I found that the 'cure being the water' is silly, but passable. The ending is meh, and pretty much chapters ~30 to 60, in the "second school", are almost completely and utterly pointless. I only recommend reading the manga if you have nothing else to read.
Ayoooo I love this rain world content very rain world. I understand the need to keep uploading stuff people want and im totally here for whatever random shit YOU want to make.
Yeah, I understand your complaints 100% coming from someone who's not really into the slice of life stuff. I feel you, and especially in the early episodes, it can feel kind of overplayed (and the beach episode makes me want to leap off a cliff). But for the most part - for me at least - I... actually found myself really liking the characters and the depth the situation added to them, the small moments of tension, all the sideways glances and uncomfortable silence as Yuki cheerily babbled on about dead people. The slice of life scenes are what the characters want to protect, yes, but they all feel like they have have a level of ephemerality to them, a constant heavy tension that sits over the characters' happy moments which only grows heavier as the series goes on. I loved seeing subtle character beats played out mostly through expressions, art and action - such as Kurumi's guilt over murdering her zombified former classmates shown in small ways from her freezing up during a patrol in Episode 2 and the heavy fog that descends over their human features during action scenes where she's the focus. I felt like the genre dissonance between the slice of life and horror aspects actually elevated the series as a whole, because I love good characters and development *and* I love to see the characters I like just hanging out and having fun - and for the most part, the series blended these aspects into each other with a finesse I don't see all that often. Yuki's little escapist bubble that is the School Living Club isn't treated harshly, and she's never killed for the sin of being slightly psychotic, but in the end the only way to protect the people and the life she cares so much about is to let go of artificial comfort and embrace the role she can still play among her friends. I think that's a really great take on the topic... and it's definitely one I needed to hear going into the series. Also hard agree on the soundtrack being a banger, Jesus Christ there's barely a single bad song
One thing I really like is that the reason the zombies broke in, was because it was raining. And what do humans do when there's a lotta rain? They try to find shelter.
