This morning I got into my 2 day old e-Golf and despite the ice everywhere else, my car was warm with clear windows as I hooked it to the mains electricity supply earlier and used my iPhone to turn on the screen heating and AC. I love this car.
Best thing about the E- Golf? its basically a normal Golf with electric drive, no strange styling, weird controls. Everything is where you expect it in this practical hatchback. And everything is interchangeable with other VAG- Stuff, Ive seen an E- Golf with lowered suspension and GTI- wheels :) Also not many people know that these cars get build in the same awesome factory that once was used for the VW Phaethon and some Bentleys in Dresden/ Germany..
I agree. Too many electric cars looks like a circus on wheels. With the E-Golf you can barely tell the difference on the outside or the inside, from a regular Golf. The ICE-version of the Golf is already popular, so I can see why it's popular as an electric version as well.
Drove this car a month ago in the Netherlands. Even while driving 130 km/hr and accelerating pretty fast the total range stayed at 250 km, which is beyond I expected.
My parents were against EV but I think I gotten them to start warming up to at least a PHEV. Pricing & range are still major factors, especially in Canada where 4 months are below freezing & wrecks havoc on the charge.
zezizarjaars that sounds strange, even the old model should manage to drive 70 km on one charge this time of year. I've managed to do over 215 km of mixed driving(both city and highway speed up to 100km/t) on one charge the last week. And I live in Norway btw
I'm astonished that this car has only a 38kWh battery but still got ~300km range. The Bolt has a 60kWh battery with just a little bit more range than the Golf. So it must be very efficient. Unfortunately not available here in Australia, VW has confirmed... :(
Living Down Under that's bad to hear this is what I would love to get in Aus. 300km is a pretty good number for framing it into a retro fit ice body. 300km would be a great ev number for Aus too enough for a 3hr one way day trip in a morning plug in for the day while exploring and back home.
I bought this car two months ago and it already has 12.000 km on odometer. I used this car in vocation trip from Norway to Italy and back so in general 7000 km in both ways (yes, it's possible :) without any problems). Can say that is the perfect vehicle with great driving pleasure and it is very efficient car.
There are plenty of charging stations in Europe. Considering such long distance, you have to just better planning your trip. I used several app on my cellphone to find charging spots. Moreover, we have been visited so many places we enjoyed, thanks to this electric car. That means we would definitely have never visited some of them with gasoline car :)

200km real range. The e-Golf is actually quite attractive to my eyes; it is the only EV you can buy that doesn't scream "I'm GREEN!" to the world. In Canada the e-Golf actually is CHEAPER than the 1.8TSI Golf after incentives. I haven't seen any at dealers yet but I did see a pearl white one from another city charging at my local community center.
Just two remarks: * I don't know how it is for Norway, but here in France, the full LED instrument cluster is an... Option! * The car can be made to NOT have creep: you have an "auto hold" button on the center console which disables it. FWIW, we will have this car as our secondary car (after the Tesla); of all propositions we have tested (ioniq included), this one was the most convincing of all of them.
Runner ups were the ioniq and i3. The Golf ended up the winner because unlike the Ioniq, it has app support and a reasonable "girth" (the ioniq was too long, in particular), and compared to the i3 it has better sound insulation and is much less expensive (especially after the €6k rebate right from VW).

On VW creep is dynamic it auto detects if you keep hitting the accelerator after lifting the break, if there is more drive time it will assume standstill for traffic light. Regen (in B mode) gets harder while speed reduces.
I know this was only a quick test and short drive, but can you even then provide some more basic details about the cars your drive, like battery location, charging possibilities and trunk size, you know, just some basic stuff?! Volkswagen told me they won't sell the e-Golf here in Australia as there is no demand. How annoying... We're missing out on all these great cars :(

Nobody will get such a big environmental benefit like Norway, for sure. Even when the electricity is been produced by coal plants, EVs are till more environmental friendly then ICE cars. As you have done some research in Google, I'm sure you will find these information too. Also, Australia has got the highest solar rooftop installations (-> Google) so a lot of EV will be charged by very clean energy. And despite the total lack of Government support for renewable energy in Australia, a lot of solar, wind and now even solar thermal projects are on the way. So there will be more renewable energy available every year. As I'm living a bit in the country side I'm very happy with my PHEV at the moment for these longer trips. But I'm also looking forward for my TM3 in 2019...
Even if the electricity is made from coal, it's still more friendly to the environment than a fossil-fuel car. Keep in mind that refining petroleum to usable fuel for cars, also require a lot of electricity. Plus, with an electric car, you remove the local air pollution caused by tailpipe emission.
Are these vehicles more common in Europe? I live in the U.S in the state of Texas and I don't know a single person that owns an electric. I've only seen one tesla once when I was driving through a rich neighborhood.
Looks great to drive but I think it needs more range for the UK where there are less chargers. I took the Zoe on a 160 mile (260km approx.) journey this week and arrived home with 30 miles range remaining. charging would have meant parking somewhere different at the destination or stopping on the motorway on the way back (and this would cost about £5 plus an extra couple of coffees). I can see that VW are getting close to making a compelling product but the new Leaf may be a step ahead when it arrives.
You should consider using kilowatts instead of horsepower :) If we are changing the parafigm of the car, why not switch the car characterisctic units to the metric system. :) Edit: It is also easier to calculate how much energy you have charged, and how much power it is consuming while driving.

There's launch control and there is a decent 0-60 time. Does it beat the Leafs 11 second run? Don't like the fact there appears to be a little delay though

No one will choose Vw instead of Tesla.But, in germany will get a discount from Vw, if you bring an old car they will give you over 4k discount on a new car so in tottal 11k discount and you get the car in a week.. but i think i will wait 12-18 months for the tesla :))...
My Volvo XC60 didn't have backup camera Schmutz, but my Model X does (often)... don't know how the Sweedes managed that, but the Tesla folks need to figure out how to de-schmutz the camera.
Who on earth needs this "Start" Button in an electric car? Exactly no-one! Just get rid of it entirely! I recently drove a Renault Zoe and it was a big hassle. Plug-in the key-card, push the "Start" button (don't forget the brake pedal here, because Park and handbrake is apparently not enough to stop the car), then finally put it into drive.... That is so 20th century.... Why is it not push the brake, and switch to drive, like in a Tesla? Multiple times, I didn't know, if this thing was actually "on" and was once rolling backwards and wondered why the accelerator didn't do anything.
i purchased the newest facelift e-Golf in 02/2020, got a got discount and 6000€ eco-discount- will use it for going to work and shopping trips around my city ... daily commute is about 80km in total (2x37km + groceries) Will get this car in 09/2020, if corona wont delay... :_S I am expirienced with EVs, driven tesla model 3 LR and i3 (bus I am pretty hyped about leaving my fossil fuel car (mercedes e class, t model, 4wheel) for good, when the small golf arrives. Will save me around 200-400€ in fuel / month (depending on the gas prices)...
Rianti Download , there are no subsidies in norway, you must pay full factory price + freight, and no tax deductions on your declaration. They just refrain from demanding that you pay the sales tax. It is people in all other countries that are lucky with the price of normal cars, like cars with V6 or V8 that everybody wants (to listen to?)

I have narrowed my choices down to two possibilities: Either the VW e-golf (2017 or later, since that was when they got the larger battery) or the BMW i3 (Probably 2016 or 2017 - NOT the range Extender version!). - i3 Pros: # Sold in all 50 states, so dealers are nearby to do servicing if necessary; # Cool, high tech look (I dig it) # Great standard features # 94Ah battery available for cheap (39.5 kwh) - i3 Cons: # Skinny tires that don't last too long (supposedly) # Not as aerodynamic as the eGolf # Generally slightly more expensive than the eGolf of the same year, even used - VW eGolf Pros: # Looks like a regular Golf, and shares many of the same parts # 2017 and later got the larger 35.8kwh battery # Uses basically normal tires, easy and cheap to replace - VW eGolf Cons: # No nearby authorized technicians (I live in a state that the eGolf is not officially sold in, so dealers are not trained) As you can see, the VW doesn't have as many cons (a least as it relates for me), but it's a big one! Should I take the plunge anyway with the eGolf, knowing that it is almost certainly not going to give me major issues for a while, or go with the BMW i3 with the BMW dealer techs nearby if needed?
@@HelloMyFriend_ Actually I ended up with a 2016 Kia Soul EV+ and have never been happier. Best car I have ever owned of any kind. I forget why I didn't choose the eGolf, but the i3's super skinny tires just worry me too much. I live in Florida and sometimes we get a lot of rain. The Kia I got had only 17000-ish miles, single owner and was in basically new condition, no accidents, etc and it was only $12999 too! Every switch, dial, knob, lever and button has a solid no-wiggle feel to it. It's quiet and smooth and has exactly the right amount of getup and go for me. Not too fast and not too slow (zero to about 45 is quite snappy though!)
VW started with a very good Fossil car. For large stubborn brands, they could come out swinging. Its brands like Volvo, and Subaru that i think will really push hard, they can adapt faster. Hyundai i think is second to VW. And honistly the Bolt is a disappointment. Compared to all other EV's the bolt is just cheep in looks and slow in charging.
I'm not sure I see the point in buying either this or the electric focus (both about £31k) compared to the Ioniq (£24k) - they all have similar range but the Hyundai is more efficient, has more room, more safety features by standard, etc etc.

it's more than 200 km in reality. Can achieve easily 220-250 km. checked by myself.

Tony x I personally managed 14.5kWh on a mixed test drive with max 120kph and AC on, so you can definitely do more than 200km of normal driving.

Should I take the plunge anyway with the eGolf, knowing that it is almost certainly not going to give me major issues for a while, or go with the BMW i3 with the BMW dealer techs nearby if needed?

@@HelloMyFriend_ Actually I ended up with a 2016 Kia Soul EV+ and have never been happier. Best car I have ever owned of any kind. I forget why I didn't choose the eGolf, but the i3's super skinny tires just worry me too much. I live in Florida and sometimes we get a lot of rain. The Kia I got had only 17000-ish miles, single owner and was in basically new condition, no accidents, etc and it was only $12999 too! Every switch, dial, knob, lever and button has a solid no-wiggle feel to it. It's quiet and smooth and has exactly the right amount of getup and go for me. Not too fast and not too slow (zero to about 45 is quite snappy though!)
The Display is a Option.

200 mile range out of a 36 kWh battery? I don't think so... unless you drive 20 MPH.

VW started with a very good Fossil car. For large stubborn brands, they could come out swinging. Its brands like Volvo, and Subaru that i think will really push hard, they can adapt faster. Hyundai i think is second to VW. And honistly the Bolt is a disappointment. Compared to all other EV's the bolt is just cheep in looks and slow in charging.
No more dieselgate. Seems like a winner compared to Ford Focus. VW group build good cars.
If you take out all the seats and strip it down it would be faster.

I'm not sure I see the point in buying either this or the electric focus (both about £31k) compared to the Ioniq (£24k) - they all have similar range but the Hyundai is more efficient, has more room, more safety features by standard, etc etc.
The Ioniq EV is hard to get, production is a lot lower than demand, so for many the e-Golf will be the second choice that is available to buy.
