Choosing between the Viltrox 75mm and 85mm? If you're on a budget, the 85mm is a decent option. But for top-notch performance, the 75mm is the way to go.

Thank you so much for the video. It really helped me make up my mind. I have/had(selling now) 85mm mk1, which is equally heavy. So now after this video I am happily ordering 75mm, because if I don't i will keep thinking about it 😊.
    Thanks again.

Really new to photography and wanted something to play with alongside the kit lens for my XT200. I always want to spring for the better product (the 75 in this case) but thanks for making me feel like the 85mm would be enough for someone starting out like myself!

    •  3 місяці тому

Glad I could help! Btw on the XT200 probably the 75mm would be a little too heavy anyways. Maybe even the 85mm would be a little heavy. Have you given a thought to the 56mm, also there is the new 56mm F1.7 which doesn't look to bad. I did not have the chance to try but it looks like a good option. I might buy it myself since it is pretty cheap.

OK now that I finished watching your video, great presentation! It was engaging all along. I just got an absolutely crazy deal on an X-T5 super low shutter count with the 18 and 56, but while researching and learning, this V75mm kept coming up. I think I'm going to get it. Just need to skip one or two dinners a week to afford...

    •  8 місяців тому +3

Glad it was engaging and you enjoyed! That sounds awesome! If I were you I would probably sell the 56 and get the 75 if you really want it that bad. This way you don't have to skip too many dinners

Mold can be a reason why a lens loses contrast. This is why is important to have the weather sealing if you often shoot in humid conditions.

Awesome video! Your portraits are really inspirational! I want to try to replicate them. What is your opinion on the 75mm vs the fuji 90mm? I have found a really good deal on a used 90mm but the 75 is so good. Thanks!

    •  Місяць тому

Thanks! I am glad you like my work. Honestly I think the 75mm is better if you shoot a lot in low light. That 1,2 makes a huge difference. And the 90mm is more expensive although it just feels better when mounted on the camera. It is also a matter of how much you enjoy the 75mm focal length vs 90mm because you will see the difference. I made a video with the 85mm Viltrox vs 90mm Fuji and there was a difference, and that difference can be noticed even more with the 90mm. Overall I think the 75mm is better unless you want a longer focal length. Plus I think it is time for Fuji to update this lens.

I'm currently running an XT-4 with the 18-55mm/2.8-4 lens. Since my "normal" focal lengths are covered with the kit lens, I love the idea of having the 75mm for longer reach at such a wide aperture, but the range also scares me a bit. Do you find the 75mm to be too tight at times? Would love to get your thoughts. Thanks.

    •  Рік тому +2

Hey thanks for watching and commenting! Not at all, 75mm/85mm is amongst my favourite focal length. You can nicely isolate your subjects, and it itakes amazing headshots. It is also very good for street, especially if you are a little bit more introverted. If you have the opportunity to try before buying, I highly suggest that you do so! But in my opinion this lens is worth every penny.

Great video. I sold the 85 to help fund the 75mm, but while I loved using the 85 I haven't missed it for a second. The weather sealing means I can use it in all conditions, the sharpness wide open when needed is amazing and the elimination of chromatic aberration is brilliant, that was one of the 85's real weakness. I use it for street and it's plenty fast enough, especially after the firmware update. It's always a wrench to take it off the camera to use something else lol. Contrast and colour are a little better too and the flare can be worked around and looks nice anyway.

    •  Рік тому

I think you made the right choice! I haven't also missed the 85mm since I got the 75. I really love the quality I get out of it. Thanks for watching and commenting😁

Hey, I have the Sigma 56mm that I really love, I couldn't get rid of it, I got it really cheap. I want to experiment with a longer lens because of the compression of the background, do you think that if I keep the 56, it is better that I go for the 85, and save some money?

    •  8 місяців тому +1

I'd go for the 75mm if I had the money. If you are out of the budget 85 is a good choice. And also the 90mm from fujifilm is pretty good as well especially if you find a nice used copy but it is still on the expensive side of things. I made a video on it too: ua-cam.com/video/jndnkfh4pxg/v-deo.html
But always keep in consideration this: Are you making money with that lens or not? If yes then invest if not then go fo the cheaper version. It'll do 90% of the job

Just for curiosity which one of these 2 lenses would you suggest for live music photography??

    •  Рік тому +1

75mm definitely! I mean usually concerts happen in the evening so that 1.2 is going to help a lot! Image quality is definitely better so yeah, definitely 75mm.

  • @patrickgamboa6694
    @patrickgamboa6694 7 місяців тому

@10:18 you mentioned the 10mm difference. But isn't the 75mm for apsc and the 85 is for full frame? So using both to apsc camera would result to 85mm equivalent to 135mm? So the difference is not just 10mm? Am I right?

    •  7 місяців тому

I guess there's a little bit of confusion. I get your point, the sensor of the camera forces the image too look more zoomed in but the difference remains still 10mm. Phisically a 75mm lens will always remain 75mm whether on full frame or cropped. I suggest that you check out Gerald Undone's video on this topic to have a better understanding., In any case it probably won't matter that much when you choose between the two lenses.

I have the 85/1.8 II. I am curious about the 75/1.2 but I doubt that I would bother upgrading, it is already quite long on my Fuji X. I spend most of my time with the 23 and 33 lenses.

    •  Рік тому +2

I totally feel you. I also have the 23 and 33 and they are really complementary lenses but sometimes especially when I shoot events and want to take portraits of the people attending without interracting too much I love having a longer lens. The is good, but the 75 is on a totally different level.

Really wonder which one I need to complete my gear, vilteox 56mm or 85mm (75mm is too expensive for the moment).
    I've 18-55 (so, a 55mm f4), samyang 12mm f2 and xf 35mm f2.
Maybe 56 would be more usefull but very close to 35mm (or 55mm of the 18-55) ? 85mm could cover a focal I don't have yet 😕

    •  11 місяців тому +2

I would say get the 85mm. If you have the 35mm I guess it makes more sense to have a lense that looks a little bit more different so that your photos don't all look the same.

which of the two lens is better to do tight shoots? 75mm vs 85mm? please I need your suggestion on that lens

    •  11 місяців тому

hey there, well for tighter shoots 85 but the difference is not that much so I would say 75mm is much better in almost everything.

  • @kuyajepoytv8223
    @kuyajepoytv8223 4 місяці тому

If you are into portrait photography either way of the two lenses can give you nice quality. But if you shoot the event and have less space to work with you might consider the 75mm.

    •  4 місяці тому

indeed! Sometimes I find myself in rooms where I would just love those few millimetres extra of space and probably it's better to crop in later.

Was considering the 85mm but I’m glad I came across your channel. 😊
Question, what lens filter would you suggest for street photography versus portraits?

    •  Рік тому

Really?! Damn, that's awesome, I should ask Viltrox for a fee on their sells ahaha You're not the first one to tell me that. As far as filters go I don't use any for photos, only for video, but I was always interested in a cinebloom diffusion filter.

    • @YAH_ONLY
      @YAH_ONLY Рік тому

      @ I have a cine bloom on my 23mm (x100t) … PHENOMENAL.
Actually considering their filter (5%) for the 75mm.
Thought I’d ask. Your images are stellar!
What filters do you use for video?

    •  Рік тому

Thanks a lot! Really much appreciated. I only use a K&F variable ND filter for whenever I shoot outside for better motion blur. I have the X100F and I shoot wide open at F2 and it is so soft that it simulates shooting with a cine bloom😁

    •  3 місяці тому +1

Hey man! I don't think you will, if and when the time comes to go pro, you will simply buy the better lens that will maybe suit you better. If you are not making a single dollar with you camera there's no rush to buy the latest and greatest gear. I shot with the 85mm for 2 years before getting the better lens!

But! 85 is a full frame lens? 75 full or cro? Then 75 is a 115 on the ff. 85 =85 on the ff?

    •  7 місяців тому +2

Hi there! Thanks for watching and paying attention to all the details.
Ok, so I think there is a little bit of confusion. I've noticed that generally in the community. So a 50mm or an 85mm or 75mm lens will always be the same whether you shoot it on APSC or FF. It's gotten in the jargon of people to say oh the 75mm is 115mm in reality. Phisically the difference is the same. So a 35mm FF remains a 35mm APSC. The sensor forces the image to appear more zoomed in as if was another focal length but in theory the lens does not suddenly change focal length otherwise manufacturers should just write down 50mm instead of 35mm. I highly suggest watching Gerald Undone video on the question cropped and full frame to have a better understanding. Overall the difference in focal length should not matter that much when you choose between the 75mm and 85mm. It is barely noticeable.

How can a lens lose quality over time? Thats just ridiculous.
Either he compares it now to newer better lenses and therefore has the impression that the quality of the older "worsened" or he got dust and moisture inside.
