- The original "Jake From State Farm" commercials from 2011 were a big hit for the insurance company, despite their simple premise. A husband is on the phone in the middle of the night when he's caught by his wife. Who could he be talking to? Why, it's just Jake from State Farm! These charming spots spawned a catchphrase ("Uh, khakis?") and even lured some famous guest stars, like SNL's The Coneheads.
In 2020, State Farm rebooted the "Jake From State Farm" spots, recasting the original Jake. The new ads have also been a big hit, and have featured big stars like Paul Rudd and Drake. But what about the OG Jake? Here's what happened to the original Jake from State Farm.

All the commercials that follow the original just go to show how clueless the ad agency was about why the commercial was so funny in the first place. It wasn't the line, "what are you wearing Jake from State Farm", it was the wife's response "well she sounds hideous," and her her husband's comeback "well, she's a guy, so" that made it a classic. The focus on what Jake was wearing made the other commercials just dumb.
The way he said “uhh khakis” was literally the only reason i sometimes grinned at that commercial this is so wrong lmao

I'm not white nor black... having said this...I don't understand people who admire a person as a result of his/her skin color...It's so obvious that State farm wasn't interested in replacing the original Jake with just "any actor" it is pretty obvious that they were looking for a black person...and since we live in the "black lives matter" era ...it makes sense that lots of people would fall in love with this new commercial...As a non white person I would hate to get a job just because of my skin color..not only would I feel uncomfortable but additionally I would feel bad about the other people who didn't get the job because they weren't the "right" race.

The guy from the "CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?" 'TEST GUY' Verizon Wireless commercials was a real VZW tech support employee. I used to work at a VZW call center in North Charleston, South Carolina, USA, and he came to take pictures with us in 2008. Then I saw him on commercials working for SPRINT, then later in T-MOBILE commercials. So, I believe the original JAKE from State Farm was an actual agent.
