- This is the first update to my newest Journal For No Reason. This time I added a little DecoArt fabric paint to the pages.
By total coincidence I've run across several other artists who are journaling their scraps. It must be a 'thing'! Check these out:
Christy Sobolewski has a series of videos on what she calls her "Scrappy Journal". The whole series is a MUST WATCH, here's the first one: • Scrappy Journal Class ...
Veronica aka Rose City Crafter took a cue from Christy and created this beauty: • a art journal i made
I dropped in on Barb Owen's live stream on Friday and was surprised to see she's using up her scraps too! Check her out: / barbowendesigns
Michelle M at LadyBlueStudios sewed some of her scraps:
• Scrap Paper Junk Journal
Sugar is great is using bits and bobs and scraps in her junk journals: • Video

Happy Mother's Day to Shannon and all the mothers here. Even the ones whose children have 4 legs, feathers, or fins.
There is nothing more relaxing and positive for a Sunday morning than watching Shannon flip through her work. This is setting my day off right.
+plicketyplunk Every woman has been a mother to someone or something at some point, I truly believe that. Happy Mother's Day to you too!
I'm a new subscriber & I am enjoying your videos. You've encouraged me to start my own junk journal now. I've got a bunch of scraps & bits that I've hung onto but just didn't want to let them go lol Thank you for your inspiration!
+Ms May You're welcome and thank you for watching!
Happy Mother's Day...from one mother to another. I wasn't into this journal until you started slapping paint on it. What a difference! Now I really like it. You are so clever.
+Cathy Rose Creations Happy Mother's Day to you too Cathy! Okay, truth time...I like it but I'm still not super jazzed about it but it's getting there!
I love your style! Great progress... thanks for sharing ... I learn so much from watching your process. Happy Mother's Day!
+pTanino Thank you Pam and Happy Mother's Day to you too!
Simply adding paint has made the journal already so interesting.
I love the way you do that.
+Lidima Paris Thank you!
awesome gathering, Shannon! love that it's a for no reason project! those must be the best! fun!!
+vintage art supplies at GTDesigns I'm having a ball! Thanks for watching, Renee :)
After too much time to look for some creative videos to use all that kind of papers, at least I 've found them.
Congratulations and thanks so much for sharing.
Hugs from México and sometimes from Holland.
Thanks so much for watching!
Oh the SOUND OF THAT PAPER!!!!! Sooooo satisfying!!! I kind of feel like all of my journals are 'for no reason' other than to please me. I guess for those that have goals to do art as a profession, they serve a greater purpose. But for the rest of us, they are simply crinkly vessels of papery, scrappy, auditory, visual and tactile goodness! Not sure if it was this video or the review of all your "journals for no reason," you said - "it's MY journal, I can do what I want." How many other things in life can we truly say that about? I think that is why we all have such a passion for creating these journals. They are like personal little playground where we can be completely, creatively self-indulgent.Thank you for reinforcing this, Shannon! It's so easy to get precious about our ephemera and supplies and even our scraps! Also - are your drop papers sheets of freezer paper? I've been using a found roll of brown craft paper. It's okay, but I think when it's gone I would like something that is slightly more flexible and not brown.
+JINDY RN "Personal little playground"...I LOVE that! None of my drop papers are freezer paper but they are various different kinds. I have a bunch of old real estate plats in there as well as some packing paper from when we moved and some kids' fingerpaint paper. I just use whatever.
I didn't think this type of journal was my thing but I started thinking of all the little scraps I throw away. So maybe I will try a version of your journal. Thanks for the inspiration and
...Happy Mother's Day Shannon.
+Ithlia H I hope you give it a try and Happy Mother's Day to you too!
You always have the best ideas! For the first time in forever, I was experiencing a "funk"... and, this idea unleashed the muse again! I have had so much fun with myown version of this scrap journal!
+Diane Daniels Woo hoo! I'm so happy to hear that!
Love the flip outs....so got to do that....how fun is this...looking awesome...lot's of good ideas and inspiration....just amazing.....I'm so excited for the next one already:) Sugar is great...love her junk journals...another favorite of mine is Enrica Mcintosh...she is really a natural at just slapping stuff down using all her scraps and it looking amazing...really love her....thanks for sharing Shannon...now off to scrap, trash and junk a lil:)
+stampingchaylina Oh Enrica is amazing, I agree!!
Yummy journal! I love it! It must be use it up time in the art world. Everyone seems to be purging and reorganizing and using up loose scraps. So, I did too, and followed Christy Sobolewski's videos and made some journal signatures. TFS Shannon!
+Cherie Hayes It does seem to be a 'thing' right now which is very exciting!
The crafter's/ artist's version of Spring cleaning? I'm doing it too.
love your no reason journal , I always think it's fun to have project for no reason other than it makes us happy
+smurfie161 We should have more of them. :)
Happy Mother's Day Shannon! Love your journal! Fun!
+artzology Thank you Deb and Happy Mother's Day to you too!
Hi Shannon, I've just recently found your channel and I have to tell you, I absolutely love watching you. You're very creative, that's obvious, but you are a hoot, so much fun to watch and listen to, just a great channel. Thanks much for sharing, being so inspiring and making it so much fun to boot.
+Deb Schafer That is so sweet of you to say, Deb, thank you! And I'm so glad we found each other :)
Ooh. That pineapple colour is just divine, as is you creativity!
+Lotta Savolainen Thank you Lotta!
A few things: 1. Totally agree with the straight edges thing. 2. Great placement of the masking tape on the spine. 3. I was really sending vibes for that king napkin to go on the front--guess you didn't get those-lol and 4. The pages sound delicious when you turn them! I'm ready for the next update!
+Lisa Cornelius I'm working in this like a crazy woman so you won't have to wait long for updates!
I'm loving this. I may take the leap with my basket o'scraps.
+Ginger Rogers Just dive in head first!
I love how you can turn nothing into a fabulous visual thing of pleasure, tfs Shannon
+Maggie Lockley Oh thank you Maggie!
Looking good Shannon, love that shimmery purple.
+Valerie Rich Thanks Valerie!
Happy mother's day!!!! Thanks for sharing!! 😉
+clnason Thanks so much!
My brain has a tendency to sort of lift out of my skull at these =) journal pages. I sure love the idea! I have that Oklahoma journal waiting for my attention, so I may get to it...in the future. Thanks for sharing these, I find them very inspirational.
+Linda DeChow I sure do appreciate you taking the time to watch, Linda!
Good morning and Happy Mother's Day! Look who's got some mojo!
+Lottie Faith I think it's slowly returning!
You are amazing ... I sooooooo did not like some of those paint colours that you put out on the palette - but they worked!!! loving how this is coming together ... Mimi
+kymdempsey I didn't like some of them either...which is why I chose them! I sometimes intentionally choose colors that clash so that whatever I'm painting won't look contrived or planned...it makes it more organic.
Love it! I haven't got into journals yet but you make me want to.
+Nadine Carlier Thanks Nadine, I hope you give them a try!
Love this one...love the messy look!
+Carol Vannoy Thanks Carol!
Ah! yes I just watched the first video. it is such a great idea. I am getting my pile together as we speak.
+Clara Avin Woo hoo!
I now know what to do with all the pile of paper junk that is making my place messy. Thank you Shannon for such great ideas.
+Clara Avin You were saving it for a reason, now you know the reason!
That looks like it is so much fun. FINALLY, a way to use all those odds and ends in my stash. BTW, I think this journal is probably a junk journal on steroids!
I think you're right!
Ha ha, on steroids!
Loving your journal Shannon!
+Lani Le Designs Thank you!
Love this, of course!! 😊
+Cat Hand Thank you my friend!
+Shannon Green 😊
I really love your journals for no reason. In a lot of you accidental shapes I see faces! I would love to go through and point them out.
No reason but FUN, you mean! Love it ;)
+Laura Church Absolutely!
Straight edges on the straight edge of a page and not in the middle, yay! It's not just you, I totally feel the same!
High five sista!
Best reason ever, "just 'cause". ☺️
+Lori Link Amen.
Super cool. =) I enjoyed this. =)
Thank you for sharing. =)
I see lots of faces and critters hidden in your pages. =)
+Phoebe Thanks for watching, Phoebe!
;) you're welcome.
Awwwww this is awesome I'm defiantly going to have to do this myself I alway have little bits of scraps all over my desk waiting to be chucked away but why trash them when you can make art with it??!!
U r a real inspiration thank you Sooo much for sharing and I hope you have a great day bye
+A.K Crafts Thanks so very much for watching and I hope you give it a try!
It looks awesome. Maybe I should do projects just because, maybe that way I would do more crafting.
+Johanne Lacombe That's the secret. Take away all the expectations and give yourself permission to go back to kindergarten and do what you love!
Love the yellow.
Have you seen Peter Beard's Diaries? He has a really big book about his Diaries, your journals like reminds me of them. Check it out on Amazon, just to look at it
Whattttt!!?? You didn't loose anything??? and no encore either??? Hehehe!!! Sorry, that just came out :D I'm really liking this Shannon, even if it's for no reason at all :D Hugsss xxx
+Karin Carter I don't know what was up...the planets must be lined up just right or something!
LOVE
+Cali Black Thanks Cali!
Amazing and want to have go myself.
ooh i was just thinking, now why r u organizing into those piles hehehe then u said u didnt know!!! i also do that, pile then re pile then re pile!!!
+Louisa Vevers What is it with that?? LOL No clue, it's just what we do.
I am so loving what you're doing here, but can I ask, don't your pages stick together now that you have put paint on and closed your journal? Tfs x
+Elizabeth Naisbitt Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I'm good either way :) I added quite a bit of water to these paints so they acted more like watercolors than acrylics and didn't stick.
In your hands all makes sense.
+MR.VICTOR CRAFTER Thanks Victor!
Until you run out of stuff? Have you ever run out of scraps?
Thoughts are with you and yours! Happy Mother's Day!
+Jesse b Well...no. But surely it's possible!
+Shannon Green Thank you for the full fledged laughing time!!!!! Your comment made a good day even better!
I had a bunch of scraps and I was so sick of looking at them so I dumped them in the bin. I have since gathered a more inspiring batch.
+Ros Jones Oh that's funny and I can totally relate!
Are you using a magazine to make the journal?
+Clara Avin This particular journal was made from drop papers: ua-cam.com/video/qqr1BNUhsQo/v-deo.html
Love it, that's all.
+Ellen Chapman Thanks!
Feliz Dia de Las Madres. tfs, Katie
+Kathleen Crile Happy Mother's Day to you too!
Only your Trashy trash could end up as an awesome journal. lol Great job. tfs
+Robin Veysey Thank you Robin!
OK. Call me completely crazy, but at 6:58 on the page on the left, the way you did the paint looks like a horse with a bridle. I really hope I am not the only one who sees it. If I am, then maybe I am crazy, but that's OK! LOL
+Melinda Kirkley It does!!!
I hope she sees my comment. I wonder if she will get a kick out of it!
+Melinda Kirkley Look how talented I am and didn't even know it! LOL I hadn't noticed it before but you're absolutely right :)
I saw the horse, too... 😜
Your journal is really distasteful! But I like it! Looks like one I have!
Thanks for watching!
