    I have been roping the dummy for about 30 years and I a, FINALLY going to get on a horse and actually DO THE DAMN THING. This video has been more informative and PRACTICAL than ANY of the HOT SHOT ropers that have "schooled" me over the many years! ThaNK yOU! kEEP EM COMING!

    I learned this exact left hand technique from Allen Bach years ago, works every time! And doesn't allow your horse to get into a very bad habit of "ducking off". Also, if your right hand skims your right pant leg when jerking your slack, you won't throw very many "Kickies" Awesome video Brother! Thank you!

    Great video. This is really helpful because I started out breakaway roping, so I know how to swing a rope but I was never taught the mechanics of roping horns. I'll put these tips to use tomorrow!!

    Backsider,
    The sweet spot heading for jackpots and good solid practice is around 71/2 feet back from the HORNS and off to the left about 2 feet. Think of it like this, if you are swinging with your tip to the right of the right horn, if you take one step forward you should be able to place the rope right on the horns without letting go. You don't want to have to reach and you also don't want to be right on top of him.

    I really enjoy this video and the points you are bringin up, but My question is why do you tuck your elbow on the dummy, because Luke you said at the bfi the top guys are driving their horse into position, but if you tuck your elbow on a horse won't you tend to stop your horses momentum? Why don't you just leave your hand solid in front of you to build that muscle memory? Thanks

    What about coil and rein management in left hand? How do you hold the reins with the rope coils? Thanks.

    Drustew I got the basics of heading but my locale feed store had a heel rope for $20 (cactus rebel) so I grabbed it, my question is should I get better at heading or would it matter if i get started on heeling I want to learn both??

    Left foot pointed down the arena the same direction your horse is running (versus to cow).

    Where exactly is the sweet spot? That's my problem, I always feel like I'm too close when I finally let go of the rope. So how many feet away should I be from the dummy or steer when I let go?

    DruStew I need a little help. Whenever i swing a rope I get a figure 8 in my loop. It usually gets worse the longer I swing. I've had other guys watch and I'm getting 100 tips but still can't pinpoint the cause. I've recorded myself and compared it to yours I don't know what I'm doing wrong, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Drustew do you think that it is always good to rope the dummy before you practice?

    • @drustew
      @drustew  9 років тому +5

      Here's the theory. Does Labron shoot before the game? Does a pitcher throw warm ups? It's a sport and in order to rope tonrhebsound your game it sure doesn't hurt to rope the dummy before you rope.
