- Jim Campbell-Spickler is brave. The wildlife biologist climbs into eagle nests hundreds of feet off the ground to capture chicks and test their blood for toxins. Ascend the high canopies with Campbell-Spickler as he avoids sharp talons in the name of science.

I was considering this job until 1:15 came along....
+itsvoogle And that's a baby chick, imagine a full grown eagle lol

Such an honor
Jim Campbell is amazing. have watched him over the last few years going into the eagle’s nests. he’s so good with the chicks and parents.

Bald Eagles are really powerful birds.
2:03 the birb that gave up
You sir, have an awesome job.
I couldn't do this job... for every second at the nest, I'd be fearful of a furious eagle mama or papa coming in; sharp, powerful talons first, to separate my orange-helmeted head from my body.
Kudos to you, and many thanks for what you do (and the risks you take in doing so!).
WOW! I'm impressed and a tiny bit jealous.
Thank you for chatting with DC9!
Keep up the great work!
Beautiful 🤩
I would love to see an Eagle up close. Amazing!!
Why do people always comment immediately if they see something that doesn’t agree with there thinking and flame the vid
Sigh get your thinking straight before you make the decision :)
Does he have an instagram ? So i can follow his adventures with the birds of prey
1:16 beautiful 😂
fascinating
youre right what a view you have
what youre up against too
thank you for what you do
Thank you for all you do!! You have the best job ever.. Be safe with Gods glorious creatures :-)
Thank additional knowledge, may God always bless
What a job this is a great video btw beautiful birds forsure
I heard that so many times: If you leave your human smell on a baby bird, it will be rejected by the parents and left to die.. Good to know birds don't care about that!
How lucky you are 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you from suchada Thailand phuket
I'd think there you are way up in that tree tampering with that nest touching those eaglets, I'd be wondering when the moment arrives that mom would swoop down out of nowhere and rip you out of the tree? Or at least make you want to abandon ship? How in the world do you do this without interference of either parent? Quite an important but courageous occupation:) Amazing, you are so privileged to be assigned to do this!
Interesting and cool vid.
2:33 - "You're not Mom! Got any food?"
Sounds like a guy I have a conversation with lol
1:15 i am pretty sure you don't have the best job in the world
Why do eagles sometimes just keep their mouth open like their screaming but without any sound? Like when a human comes close and grabs them. Are they in some sort of shock?
Kakariki Artist They play dead
They are showing their weapons but not sure if it’s time to use them yet! It’s a defensive move.
Eagles are my fav animal
Gg Swp me too!
very lucky man even getting pooped on
I need this bird
Fenómenal
Nice
🦅👍
At what age do bald eagles get their distinct white head color? All the 'bald eagles' in this video looked like regular eagles to me
soscobra when the reach sexual maturity around 4 or 5 years old
I heard that if you touch an eagle's nest they won't comeback to that nest ever
Why people needs to disturb the natural flora and fauna?
"It may look invasive". It's 100% invasive.
I was eating ffs.
I think I found my dream job
Try "the catcher in the rye". At least you don't harm anybody...
1:15 good luck!
Merkel after I taught her online:’my god the eagles would want to push the man off the nest and tear him into bits and pieces’ ‘blood samples? My god the birds would want to chew him off into bits and pieces’
My dog too peed onto a vet’s face when it was held belly top during an Xray photo exam and I shed tears watching my dog in fear and anger and my dog🐶turned out to be right and the xray scan unnecessary
I wish Merkel would change her first name into something else like Honestgoodperson
Wonderful moment for you.
Alien abduction for them. Lol
1:16 LOL
shouldnt you be wearing protective eyewear? those talons and beaks can poke your eyes out.....
just found my dreamjob
I could swear that he's standing in Klamath redwood national Forrest, or even Jedidiah Smith Redwoods. I was just in Klamath today. Dude if you see this tell me I'm right! well, maybe I'm right.
Great eye! You're very close! Arcata Community Forest...near my home base.
+Jim Campbell-Spickler nice man 👌 keep up the good work and stay safe in those canopies.
Don't some species of eagles abandon their nest and chicks once humans have touched them? My university professor told me that the Philippine eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi) acts this way, so do other species of eagles do the same, at least with those you've worked on?
The theory of smell=rejection may have risen from the occasion that a parent bird will reject a frequently disturbed nest. If a person continually goes to a nest and handles the young and remains there for extended periods, the parent bird may eventually believe this nest is in danger of failing. Meaning the birds evolutionary drive to reproduce that season could be jeopardized if it continued to put it's energy into this nest. In which case it would abandoned the nest and start over. Other times injured or week birds are put back into nests. If the baby is not strong and actively competing for it's share of food, the parent bird will not make any extra effort to restore it to health. If it does not gape or chirp to ask for food, it will not get fed. It is survival of the fittest in the nest. The weak and sick, handled or not, are ignored by the parents and will not make it.
The instinctual drive to raise ones young to adulthood is very strong in almost all birds. The hours spent finding food and returning to the nest and then doing it again and again for weeks. Defending the nest and fledglings against would be intruders. Even though birds can smell, the premise that a creature with such drive would dismiss all the time and energy it has invested in a nest because the fledgling doesn't smell right would not be sound evolutionary behavior. -Steven Williams
+DearPajamaParty Thank you so much for the explanation! It was a very interesting read.
+DearPajamaParty Interesting explanation and I see you're making a name for yourself Steven. I see your point about nests being intruded multiple of times and rejecting the nest. I've done some basic research on the internet (Probably about 30 minutes) and all theories follow your idea without 100% certainty. Nothing is certain in this world. Though, you must wonder the emotional trauma these birds feel and will change during the course of history for their species.
Do I agree with what they are doing? Yes. However it's always good to look at all sides.
+Brandon Music Oh no, I pulled this off the interent from a man who wrote article about this topic.
Human odor on baby eagles and nest with traumatic hated body odor and memory imprinted on the eagle nest🦅🙄
I want KFC for dinner now.
would you like some mustard-hot sauce with that? 1:16
Are you married? 😍🤣

America f***k yeah
Say what you will it's obvious you are stressing the birds. I'd have more respect if you simply stated you get paid to screw with them and their are science benefits.
This is the type of work that saved these birds from extinction in North America. Please give yourself a history lesson and read about ddt pesticides and what they did to raptor populations.
I'd say they're about a stressed out as a two year old getting shots. It's not something that traumatizes them
jee, just leave them alone! Can somebody study the negative effect these people make on wild birds? Please NO. It was a joke! Just leave them alone!!!
hes giving them checkups and helping people learn more about them so we can do things that help them be safer
Pwner 1492 They'll be safer WHEN HUMANS LEAVE THEM ALONE!
If you leave them alone, the more we less know about them and they might go extinct in a blink of an eye.. you heard the reasons, black market, hunters and pet traders are there, it is best to leave them alone but there are greedy humans outta there, so to fight them, people who are willing to breed and monitor are badly needed...
Mahthias Fountain no.. they have helped them not go extinct..
