The funny thing about zilliax was if your opponent played him you had to also because they would just gain too much on you in a long game. I also think his big Power Spike came when they released snip snap. That really sent him into a whole new world of relevance in all decks even though he was already amazing. My introduction to Hearthstone was trying to beat those Curse of Naxxramas Undertaker openers. Turn one 1/2... Now it’s a River Crocalisk! Now it’s a freaking Spider-Tank!! OMFG now it’s a CHILLWIND YETI...!!!
My choice was Shadow Visions because even now, it's in basically every single Priest deck, it was in every single Priest deck, and will always be a strong argument for its inclusion.
Open the Waygate - two turns is nuts Ice Block - 3-Mana "I can't lose this turn" Thaurissan - combo enabler, instant value Zephyrs - why'd they make this Zilliax - peak card design
open the waygate was not that good.. it was basically used as an OTK tool... and we've had many OTK decks with better results over the years.. i don't see ANY reason why Open the waygate is more busted than those hudreds of otk decks in the history of HS. Ice block is kinda wierd, it's strong in theory, but in reality the mage decks that used to run usually had terrible stats/winrates.. so u can't really include it. Thaurissan could be in the list for sure. Zephyrs and zillian are already there.
I think the big reason UI wouldn’t stand up in today’s HS is because of all the ramp nerfs. This card was great because it allowed Druids to catch back up after ramping the first couple turns. Ramp is super slow and expensive now, and this card is really only great when you can play it before turn 10.
Nah it's mainly that a blank 5/5 that deals & heals 5 is probably not enough to keep you alive most of the time. You have to give up your whole turn for it. If you get to utilize the additional 4 cards you're pretty happy
I really do miss Zilliax. As a lover of control/midrange, it was great to have a neutral healing tool along with some removal and a Taunt minion, and he never felt unfair.
Great list, but would you ever make a top 10 cards right now list? idk why FREE OF THAT BLASTED TOWER is not here, but i want to put him in a list somewhere.
I actually got shudderwock day one of opening packs but deleted him for dust for other cards for another deck, little did i know what i did. so far one of the worst decisions i made in hearthstone
I play a lot of wild, and I feel it necessary to say, almost all of those cards still see play in EVERY deck. Except Undertaker. Literally looking in my match history I have had each of those cards played against me today alone.
I definitely agree with the list but i missed a mention to old spreading plague and old skull of guldan. Spreading plague at 6 mana steal today the best anti aggro card printed, and skull of guldan at 5 w1as the best card draw in the history of HS, it was 5 mana draw three gain 4 mana back
Shudderwok's deck may not have the highest winrate, but it was the best card ever at softlocking your opponents computer as they watch their inevitable defeat for 20 minutes while not even being able to conceed. I think the psychological torment it inflicted is a fair consideration to make when rating this card. Its mere existence made you want to conceed before the game starts so you could avoid the torment of playing against it, and warped the metagame around it to make faster decks more fun.
I feel like if your a card that gets hall of famed or a card that gets nerfed plus 2 times you should be in consideration for this list. Love the list but people forget rag/ slyvanis rng metas... patron warrior, or solitaire combo warrior... charge should be on this list
I remember back in the day when I was talking to a friend who was on a break with hearthstone and he didn't belive that patches could be such a strong card and I was like man you have to play it to see how powerful it is
If I could choose top 5 best cards id say: 1. Defile= warlock couldnt lose to aggro anymore 2. Celestial alignment 3. Pirate warrior quest 4. Bloodreaver guldan= in every warlock deck since release (not in zoo+mechathun) 5. Divine favor=just when you thought aggro paladin was out of steam. Honorable mention: vicious fledling= love windfury 🦩
I'm a little surprised Ragnaros wasn't included. Not just because he was/is a very strong card, insanely powerful in early hearthstone with immediate impact and sometimes game winning rng. But from what I remember his presence almost defined "the look" of early hearthstone. In my opinion, he was almost as much a face of hearthstone as Ben Brode was. One of those "Wouldn't you love to control ragnaros?" To pull in the players, appeal to those that played WoW and gave rise to a lot of hearthstone early popularity and success.
I would have to say that when I first started playing Hearthstone Zilliax was the first card I ever crafted for Standard. I sure miss him for Hylander Mage in standard play to use against agro decks.
Shudderwok's power is super hard to measure just because of when it was in standard. It was 100% dependent on what battlecries were in standard at the time, so honestly I think if lifedrinker wasn't in witchwood with it or especially Grumble, it would have been a lot slower to get noticed
Shudderwock was my favorite card. I loved coming up with unique win conditions even though I lost more games than I won. Those wins were especially sweet against "real" Shudderwock decks
Would probably not argue with most of the top 10 (although Undertaker is my personal number 1). But a card still hugely underrated today is Loatheb. A staple in a large proportion of midrange decks even today, and relatively high skill cap to play at just the right time.
Actually the Ultimate Infestation was also kept in hand in 2017 Global Games where JáraVyskočil kept it and won the tournament alongside CzechCloud, pokrovac and StanCifka. It was really meme card XD
Ultimate Infestation in Spell Druid would be absolutely insane. Playing Overgrowth for draw 5, imagine dealing 5, gaining the same 5 health, drawing 5 dragons, and summoning a 5/5. Would end games outright.
Can't believe mysterious challenger wasn't on this list. That's the only thing I remember playing against during the grand tournament expansion. Also Dr boom was another card like zilliax where it is was an auto add to any deck
I think it's interesting that Regis put Rexxar in his honorable mentions because, as anyone who's played with him in the format knows, he's not exactly a metabreaker. But there's one obvious reason he isn't recognized as a powerhouse- he's in Hunter. It's hard to overstate how powerful a control tool Rexxar is. He doesn't just provide infinite value, he provides GOOD infinite value. Almost any Zombeast would be ridiculously strong as a collectable card, and you can get one every single turn. You can use them for defense, pressure, tempo, sustain, even extra value if you want. The problem is that Hunter struggles to play control, but Rexxar is so strong it barely matters. He STILL wins games singlehandedly. If he were in any other class (except perhaps Demon Hunter) he would be OP beyond 90% of this list. Anyway, all that said, Rexxar is only my #2 most powerful card in a vacuum. #1 is Skull of Gul'dan. Why the fuck did no one mention it?
The biggest reason for patches being so good is that it did so well against other early game/aggro decks since u had an extra minion to control the board
I think for me Keleseth wasn't the problem so much as shadow step in rogue which is where he was the most oppressive, but it's been so long I may be mis remembering. He was good in other decks like zoo but today I don't think he would hold up as much as stuff like Baku or shudder.
Leeroy feels like Hearthstone's equivalent to Pot of Greed. You'd be at a disadvantage if you didn't run him, he was very splashable, the only downside to him is that he takes up a space in your deck, and everyone has heard of him and his shenanigans. Same with Zilliax, but to a lesser extent (only because he hasn't been around quite as long).
I think the inherent problem with these lists curated from regular players opinions is that you get a lot of cards that weren't necessarily powerful but were not fun to play against, even if they weren't particularly high win rate cards
Don't forget the ACTUAL strongest card in Hearthstone: The Credit Card.

The funny thing about zilliax was if your opponent played him you had to also because they would just gain too much on you in a long game. I also think his big Power Spike came when they released snip snap. That really sent him into a whole new world of relevance in all decks even though he was already amazing. It would be difficult for me to come up with a card that was better. These superlative reviews are really cool thanks Regis
Honorable mentions:
Reno jackson
Plauge of flames
Kazakus
Aya blackpaw
Muster for battle
Genn greymane
Kingsbane ( before leeching poison got nerfed )
Lich king
Animal companion
Siamat
Barnes( pre nerf )
Archmage vargoth
N'zoth the corruptor
Backstab
Sap
Spreading plauge
And of course
Galvadon the last colaidosaur
He has stealth and a whole lot more
My introduction to Hearthstone was trying to beat those Curse of Naxxramas Undertaker openers.
I remember having bgh in hand vs huntertaker. He got his turn 1 undertaker to 6/7 AND PLAYED AROUND ME HAVING BGH IN MY OPENING. HE FUCKING KNEW
When I dusted Patches after the nerf, I played taps for the little guy. He will always be in charge to me...
ya-harrr! *weeps in patches*
Frost wind yeti surely must be #0 as its power couldn’t be opposed
7:12
You got me Regis
...you got me XD
I feel like Loatheb deserves a place in top 10, he will always be nut in aggro decks and even has a place in certain combo decks like shudderwock.
Zilliax was the first legendary i crafted, hes my all time fav card in HS
Man still remember crafting The Lich King. Felt so good crafting a legendary knowing you’d be able to use it in most meta decks
NZoth is a really powerful card that can make the opponent concede as Bloodreaver Gul'Dan but available for every class
Reno one of the best cards that is still commonly used in the best deck. Picks Patches.
Open the Waygate - two turns is nuts
Ice Block - 3-Mana "I can't lose this turn"
Thaurissan - combo enabler, instant value
Zephyrs - why'd they make this
Zilliax - peak card design
open the waygate was not that good.. it was basically used as an OTK tool... and we've had many OTK decks with better results over the years.. i don't see ANY reason why Open the waygate is more busted than those hudreds of otk decks in the history of HS.
Ice block is kinda wierd, it's strong in theory, but in reality the mage decks that used to run usually had terrible stats/winrates.. so u can't really include it.
Thaurissan could be in the list for sure.
Zephyrs and zillian are already there.
I was waiting for him to mention Piloted Shredder.
I think the big reason UI wouldn’t stand up in today’s HS is because of all the ramp nerfs. This card was great because it allowed Druids to catch back up after ramping the first couple turns.
Ramp is super slow and expensive now, and this card is really only great when you can play it before turn 10.
Kaelthas tho.
It works fine in wild, I know there's bio project and jade blossom but overgrowth and nourish are used too.
I like how u put the shudderwack's voicine in all the background lol it explains what doest it feels
Next video top 10 idea: Top 10 tech cards/mechanics in history of Hearthstone
#1 Boulderfist ogre prediction. The BEST stats for cost
Great list, but would you ever make a top 10 cards right now list? idk why FREE OF THAT BLASTED TOWER is not here, but i want to put him in a list somewhere.
10:09 I almost fall to the ground by laughing.
I'd say Zilliax is mostly a flex card in a few decks
I definitely agree with the list but i missed a mention to old spreading plague and old skull of guldan. Spreading plague at 6 mana steal today the best anti aggro card printed, and skull of guldan at 5 w1as the best card draw in the history of HS, it was 5 mana draw three gain 4 mana back
Spreading prenerf was 5 to btw:)
Regis: "Zephrys always finds the perfect card"
Also Regis: "Oh no! I forgot to silence Supreme Abyssal!"
I remember back in the day when I was talking to a friend who was on a break with hearthstone and he didn't belive that patches could be such a strong card and I was like man you have to play it to see how powerful it is
If I could choose top 5 best cards id say:
1. Defile= warlock couldnt lose to aggro anymore
2. Celestial alignment
3. Pirate warrior quest
4. Bloodreaver guldan= in every warlock deck since release (not in zoo+mechathun)
5. Divine favor=just when you thought aggro paladin was out of steam.
Honorable mention:
vicious fledling= love windfury 🦩
Shudderwock still my fav just a fun card, the combos r so fun!
Shudderwok's power is super hard to measure just because of when it was in standard. It was 100% dependent on what battlecries were in standard at the time, so honestly I think if lifedrinker wasn't in witchwood with it or especially Grumble, it would have been a lot slower to get noticed
I remenber 7 patches jump to my face :))
Snowflipper penguin.
A man of culture, I see...
Where the fuck blizzard are my cute 0 Mana 1/1s
How is Yogg with the treachery plus UI plus cataclysm not on the list?
By fire be purged!
Ragnaros is one of those cards that you used to put in your deck when you just didn't know what else you could.
I think for me Keleseth wasn't the problem so much as shadow step in rogue which is where he was the most oppressive, but it's been so long I may be mis remembering. He was good in other decks like zoo but today I don't think he would hold up as much as stuff like Baku or shudder.
Nah keleseth made many decks have a major shift in winrate based on draw. Shadowstep just felt especially bad
@@SmokesOnMe yeah that's a fair point, I can vaguely remember his winrate when in opening hand being something ridiculous.
Naxxramas was nuts. A good type of nuts at the time, but man, that set
I legit thought yogg cuz he's YOGG but ig no one thinks of him :(
I thought this would be a list of best cards based off design, turns out it's the strongest cards lol
Still loved the vid Regis
Leeroy feels like Hearthstone's equivalent to Pot of Greed. You'd be at a disadvantage if you didn't run him, he was very splashable, the only downside to him is that he takes up a space in your deck, and everyone has heard of him and his shenanigans. Same with Zilliax, but to a lesser extent (only because he hasn't been around quite as long).
I just remembered the reno handlock , good times man.
How's the mage quest not make it to the list? Got one or even 2 more turns to go face is broken.
Shudderwock definitely had the biggest impact on the game for me, in that it made me stop playing it.
I think the inherent problem with these lists curated from regular players opinions is that you get a lot of cards that weren't necessarily powerful but were not fun to play against, even if they weren't particularly high win rate cards
