Nice video. Though you may not have it, it would be interesting to see a comparison with the original. I have it, and I can already see the new map graphics are much nicer. The old one is mounted, but no where near the apparent graphics quality of the War Diary version. Nice that they got it of basic/advanced rules separation. Anyway a comparison, if you could pull it off, would be informative. Thanks again for the review.

Yea, Shoestring is one I'd always wanted a reprint of but I don't think they're very interested in redoing it unfortunately. At least this will be an alternative for everyone looking for some more action on the canal.
have the made the changes to the map you suggested? if so what edition will it appear as I'm going to get this. I own a pristine copy of AH's Guadalcanacl( my first wargame I ever bought) and I own Shoestring as well; Plus ASL's versions of Guadalcanal; Edsons ridge and Hell's Corner.
Counters looked rather generic for the allies with no visual definition between Marines and Army; is that the case with this game or did I not get a good look at the counters? Also since I have the original AH version of this battle ( it was the first Wargame I ever bought back in December 1969), could this version be played on the AH map? or could the rules for this game be used with the AH game?
No differences for Marines or Army, but the US isn't involved in this one since it's just the opening weeks of 1914. Unit designations are for informational purposes only and don't serve any game purpose.
FYI, I've been informed by War Diary that yes, they are doing a Vassal module for this game.

Good looking game. Nice video, Moe. What is your take on solitaire play?
Just got it in and shot a video. Will be punching and playing hopefully over Thanksgiving and will have a better idea.
