Probably the best intro ever for the NBA on NBC's long list of great intros, from the 1996 Eastern Conference Finals, Game 1 between the Magic and the Bulls in Chicago.
Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan, Shaq, Karl Malone, Penny Hardaway, Scottie Pippen, Patrick Ewing, Shawn Kemp, Hakeem... Man, the NBA in the 90's was unreal.
@Tricityshark, and @jackbyrne4635 people have the nerve to disrespect these legends and say they would not be as good in the 2010’s and 2020’s as they were in the 1990’s. They would each be better.
this was the time period when the players was balling.NBA ON NBC ROCK. It was a disapointing day when they moved to abc. that sucks. Get rid of it and Bring back NBA ON NBC!!
i know alot has to do with money and contracts and rights but i would be all for starting a petition to bring the NBA back to NBC theme song and all, i know it won't be the same but it would be a worth a shot.
90's NBA were like battles man. No wonder the Bulls cakewalked over the western conference champions. It was like a minefield in the East. Bulls vs Knicks, Bulls vs Pacers, Knicks vs Bulls, Knicks vs Pacers, Heat vs Knicks.
I've uploaded a about 20 NBA on NBC clips. I thought the NBA on NBC was a great telecast when it was on and I'm glad I taped everything. One buddy at the time asked me why I liked NBC so much, and I tried to explain it to him, but I'm not so sure he got the essence of it all. Fast forward to today, and the broadcasts aren't the same (sure TNT is good, but the others aren't). But I'm just glad others feel the same way about the NBA on NBC as I do and it's great reading all these comments.
The story lines, the commentators, the announcements, all of it was perfect when the NBA on NBC was in full swing. The icing on the cake was the music. The intro music for the NBA on NBC was nastolgic, iconic, legendary, amazing, uncanny, wasnt ever and will never be matched as far as greatness and how inspiring it was.It could have been a mid-season game between the T-Wolves and Hawks, doesnt matter.Once that music hit.IT WAS ON!Im a 5 foot 10 inch white guy, when i heard this I was dunking, lower the rim!!
Nothing beats looking back at remembering the real true golden era of pure professional basketball greatness. R.i.p. NBA ON NBC (1990-2002). Spectacular 12 year telecast run that began at 11/3rd/1990 then ended on 6/12th/2002. Teamwork, Defense & Perseverance win NBA Championships.
I swear this shit still gives me goosebumps when I see it. NBC's presentation was quick, this new shit is wack, it don't even get you hype. My favorite shit ever!!
This series should've been a war. But Orlando's players were getting injured. And the Game 2 comeback by the Bulls basically destroyed the Magic's confidence.
The Magic running the offense through Shaq too much cost them G2, even after he got figured out in the 3rd quarter they continued going to him the majority of their possessions instead of letting Penny handle the ball.
Everyone thought we'd be watching an epic, 7-game series. I included (I even thought the Sonics would have swept the Jazz in the West that year). Sure enough, I did have Seattle and Chicago in the finals... well I got the number of games right, but the team that got swept was not in Utah. But anyway, Lil' Penny is a once and a lifetime type of character. Chris Rock may have been the voice, but they were a great complement to a team and a player who was hot at the time. Man, what could have been.
We had the terribly inept Brian Hill. The Magic would've beaten the Bulls. The year before we would've beaten Houston, which Magic blew out the 2 regular season meetings. Bulls had a slightly deeper team but even with Jordan Orlando had the better starting 5.
I know I've only posted Jordan videos, because that's all I recorded, but even when MJ was shagging flyballs in Birmingham, I still watched the NBA on NBC religiously, and enjoyed the Rockets run in between. Now I'll flip through ABC and might stop if I'm inclined to watch.
As a lifelong Magic fan since 1992 after we drafted Shaq, the Bulls became my #2 team (living in the Midwest at the time, I was a huge Bulls fan like everyone else). But after this series, I have HATED and damn near despised Chicago and Jordan ever since. I still love Chicago and Jordan pre-1996 though. GO MAGIC!!!
Orlando currently have a nice young team just need a few more pieces. More promising than the Bulls for sure. Bulls management have been awful since 1998.
Damn, something about Penny makes me nostalgic of the 90's.. he literally romanticized basketball for the entire world. It wasn't just winner vs. loser, it was truly an epic battle. I remember following penny even off the ball. I remember hoping he makes every single shot. I remember keeping stats for Penny, even though NBC did that anyways. I miss Penny, the NBA needs someone like him now.
@badboymg23 YES! Amazing how many people agree with myself you yourself, this was incredible production and resulted in the most amazing numbers in terms of fans and increase of nba exposure during those years then ever imagined. Who's who have though John Tesh would create some magical music to really captivate the mind into experiencing an NBA production no matter who were actually playing. The fact the bulls dominated the league at the time simply made the identity of the league today.
That was when Basketball was Basketball
Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan, Shaq, Karl Malone, Penny Hardaway, Scottie Pippen, Patrick Ewing, Shawn Kemp, Hakeem... Man, the NBA in the 90's was unreal.
Da fuq you doin forgettin’ Gary Payton, Clyde Drexler, John Stockton, Kevin Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutumbo, David Robinson & Tim Hardaway

They would each be better.
the intro is epic. there's a lot of graphics now that is slicker, but this has a lot more impact than what I see out of abc, tnt or espn.
I love this music
thoes were the days in was exciting watching showtime but it long gone
this was the time period when the players was balling.NBA ON NBC ROCK.
When the NBA went to ABC, ABC had the opportunity to bring Roundball Rock with them. 16 years later though, they obviously refused to do so
I always get the goosebumps when I hear that intro song.
I know it sure does
James Ng absolutely. The good ole days
Fox Sports uses this theme for college basketball games. I discovered it last year.
Me toooo it was awesome been an nba fan in the 90s
I get excited.
Why do I get goosebumps instantly when I hear The NBA on NBC theme? It's an INSTANT CLASSIC!
This was the golden age of basketball.
When Roundball Rock kicked in, I felt great chills go through me. I sure miss the NBA when it was like this.
Balon Greyjoy even the little nbc intro while it’s forming the logo 😭😭
That NBC intro brings me back to the 90's and love the NBA on NBC with Bob Costas and Marv Albert. Wish I could go back in time to the 90's.
Me and my middle brother want to go back to the 90's too.
@@CraigMcfly1985 Great times indeed!🙋
Gives me chills... brilliant production. NBC was the BEST.

@@kurtjarvis2447 soccer isn’t bored it get lit pushing each other...
Anyone remember the Prudential Halftime Report? Those were good times.
This series was supposed to be the arrival of the Magic, Bulls had other ideas, lol
90's NBA were like battles man. No wonder the Bulls cakewalked over the western conference champions. It was like a minefield in the East. Bulls vs Knicks, Bulls vs Pacers, Knicks vs Bulls, Knicks vs Pacers, Heat vs Knicks.
NBC was known for so many melodramatic openers, it's nice to remember that they could also joke around and have fun on occasion too.
*"The series will be a war!"* ...And then the Bulls went out and swept dat azz.
I've uploaded a about 20 NBA on NBC clips. I thought the NBA on NBC was a great telecast when it was on and I'm glad I taped everything. One buddy at the time asked me why I liked NBC so much, and I tried to explain it to him, but I'm not so sure he got the essence of it all.

nostalgia overload these were the days.......nba tripleheaders etc...
Mid 90s = prime NBA. I feel very blessed to have witnessed it.
some of todays NBA superstars would be salty if they got dissed on a intro lol
Man, that was a classic theme song. Takes me way back.
NBA on NBC will never be topped.
I'm still hopeful that NBC will get the NBA back one day. I miss that Roundball Rock intro. Those were the days!
I hope so..... but Disney is not just going to let that money go.
They bring it back for the Olympics!
Nothing beats looking back at remembering the real true golden era of pure professional basketball greatness.

Yes, this theme is amazing!! I agree but let’s not overlook lil Penny’s great moment. This was dope
I miss this theme so much the NBA changed when they left NBC
ESPN/ABC don't bring you in like this. The buildup to these games was epic!!!
NBA on NBC is back 2024-2025!
NBC beats out TNT.
2025-26
Ah......this music brings me back to 18years before.........man.........I missed it.....
I miss these days so much.
This is great, watching this gives me chills, takes me back. As a kid, watching double and triple-headers on the weekends, thank you NBA on NBC!
I swear this shit still gives me goosebumps when I see it. NBC's presentation was quick, this new shit is wack, it don't even get you hype. My favorite shit ever!!
The Chicago vs Orlando ECF wasn't a war, it was a massacre.
This intro is pure fucking nostalgia
That theme song makes me want to lace up my jordans and hoop right NOW!
90's basketball was a religion, there will never be anything like it again
This series should've been a war. But Orlando's players were getting injured. And the Game 2 comeback by the Bulls basically destroyed the Magic's confidence.

Every time I hear the theme as a kid, I literally screamed out to my sister and her friends, JORDAN'S PLAYING!! JORDAN'S PLAYING!!! No Bullshit.
Gotta love the classic NBA on NBC theme song! God that brings back memories of great basketball.
NBA 2K16....PLEASE USE THE NBC INTRO JUST A SPECIAL REQUEST!

Back when the NBA, was the NBA. Not this woke, weak garbage they put out today. The game back then, was so much better. Ruthless aggression.
1:41 - THIS is the NBA on NBC
man the NBA on NBC... those were the days
Pretty crappy war this series was
Man, the NBA was unbelievable back then. I just wish I had watched more games.
Poor Lil Penny . The original MJ can back with a vengeance ❤❤❤❤
We had the terribly inept Brian Hill. The Magic would've beaten the Bulls. The year before we would've beaten Houston, which Magic blew out the 2 regular season meetings. Bulls had a slightly deeper team but even with Jordan Orlando had the better starting 5.
Little did they know, Magic were about to run straight into that buzzsaw Lil Penny used to cut open the Air Jordans.
Those were the days when nba was gold
KD Bron Griffin Love Melo Curry CP3 Howard would be those 8 faces today
This is when I used to watch the NBA when they were really good now they suck im watching WWE instead the most watched sports show
NBA on NBC....the best ever!!!!

This was not a war unfortunately. Momma told the Bulls to knock them out with a sweep
The Chicago series is gonna be a war??? Bwa-ha-ha. It was a massacre! Bulls in 4! Sweeeeeeeep!!!!

Yeah it was a war all right. The Falklands War, maybe.
even after that ridiculous opening, the theme song still gave me goosebumps.
So many memories as a kid with this intro. Love it
What would it look like If we use current player like LeBron,Curry,Harden, etc
it was a war all right. 4 game sweep for the bulls
Damn 433 consecutive sellouts
The ABC theme sucks. NBA on NBC forever
Damn this brings tears to my eyes, great memories. NBA will never be like this ever again.
